Hiring A-list celebrities to voice animated characters has always been overrated. There's small list of characters where a celebrity voice made it work. But most of the time its unnoticeable and a talented voice actor would do a much better job.

You can thank pixar for that. I know celebrities did voice work in animated movies. But pixar made it a staple in their movies

It was Disney proper before that. It started with Robin Williams and Aladin, then Lion King all star cast, and Mel Gibson in Pocahontas

@@harrisd1983Technically, Disney and Pixar have always done it but it depends on if the voice fits the character. And most of the time they get members of their staff to do voice work for their characters.

Makes me think of Vin Diesel voicing Groot. Google says he got $55 million across the MCU movies for it. Easiest money ever considering what he had to do versus what he got. Any non-famous but better voice actor probably would've got only a few million if lucky.

Or any trained voice actors. Hell Kris Carr is a VA, and she would fit in better in this movie, than Steve Carell, but Hollywood continues to not see voice acting as it's own thing and a vehicle to sell you celebrities.

Unlike with John Krasinski’s last movie (A Quiet Place) I think when the trailer for this movie came out people didn’t really know what to make of it, you had him back directing and all these big names but the idea of the movie kinda made it look like a weird, direct to video kids movie, and John Krasinski I feel made a very risky move by deciding to go after a completely different audience with this movie compared to his last one which has a notoriously reliable one, he made a movie that for a lot of people either seemed like one that wouldn’t normally be released in theaters or one that’s just too behind the times and would’ve caught more of an audience if it was released during the times of movies like say E.T
