Headphones and music have got me through the last 12 months of being an emergency worker. Especially with the gyms closed. I invested in some Audeze LCD-X and they just help me get lost after a stressful day!
You had picked a good time to buy the LCD-X; they had updated it in Nov 2020 after years of selling an unchanged product.
They made a 2019 Update as well right?

I bought my lcd-x in october 2020.
With my custom silver cable they have all the highs and clarity they need.
I like the dark sound of my lcd-x.

Do you prefer any of these 2 headphones over the Meze Empyrean?
Nice choice of track there playing Amorphous Androdgynous , FSOL are a massive inspiration for me played their stuff since i was in school 15 yrs ago. Have you listened to much by Bakground , Etch or Topdown Dialectic?

You are one of the few you tubers who gave these a decent review! This hobby is so hard to know if you will like a sound until you hear it for yourself (also audio chain matters and can change ones perception of the sound they hear). Crazy great review!
I had a 7k home stereo then was forced to move into a apartment. I couldn't listen to it. That's why i love nice headphones.
Great review, thanks. I have an Ether 2 and I think it's the most neutral-sounding headphone I have. It's interesting that you find it so comfortable. I also have a Meze Empyrean and I find it much more comfortable, and I slightly prefer the Empyrean's sound too. But the Ether 2 is a close second. I'm tempted by the RAD-O, but I probably won't buy it due to the weight. I have good hi-fi speakers too, including your KEF LS50s, but listen most often on headphones.

For 3000, one can get a properly amped Stax L700 set. Enough said.

Now you can buy an Audeze CRBN($4,500) which is less compressed than most, you can also probably for $3k get a used HifimanShangri La jr which is also less compressed than normal for Estats.... for this things price we are looking at H1000se v2.... Arya Stealth with a lot of change for AMP/DAC, you can get a used LCD-4 with warranty and have left over... for the price and the lack of wide soundstage, lack of Audeze tier bass,,,, gotta say buying a used HE-6(original 4 or 6 screw) is probably a better investment

Love your work and appreciate your honest an down to earth approach to this audiophile thing. You are kind of getting it from all the relevant angles, giving context to things, taking into account all of us at all different levels (financially and expirience vise).

2:00 66cm driver... yeah. manthats HUGE XD. anywayjoking aside, idorealize lately that circular planar driver often have this diameter below 70, sundara is 60 too, only one with more unique shapes like he1000's egg are beyond that in size. so inactuality, sony's 70mm has been surpassing them in size for a while huh? SURE OBVIOUSLY, sony's are a DD and not planar, but still, one of the reason they consistently have big/ grand sounding sound sig is that size.
Interestingly it's not just the Germans. Somewhen is a quite a well used Hampshire phrase. I didn't realise other people didn't use it until I was older.
