I felt MelB put on air of "you're all stupid, I don't get you", but what I really think was happening was that she knew she was out of her depth with a whole lot of smart people and so she was defensive, because she knew she might look rather stupid in front a whole lot of witty and knowledgeable people. A lot of the stuff was going over her head. She doesn't have wit, so it's hard for her to "get it". She's not stupid, but she just has a different type of intellect and her showing she was defensive just made her look a bit silly. If she had played along more and was okay with not "getting things" she would of been fine. It's a good lesson on what happens when you take yourself too seriously.

I hated Mel at first but this ended up being one of my most favorite episodes. The bitchy dynamic grew on me big time! She eventually finds her place in the overall group and her and Mickeys relationship becomes quite adorable. She makes things delightfully awkward. She has little to no whit compared to the rest of the group. She doesn't understand the dynamic or her own place within the social hierarchy. She literally doesn't realize they are making fun of her at points and most of the jokes go over her head. About halfway through she does realize the brilliance of the others and I truly believe she becomes a bit humbled as it becomes apparent that she's the big dumb brute of the group. She softens up a bit and it gets nice. I promise.
