Wait they used Chief Scotty as àn acceptable translation accent for Oric the engineer, but did not find all the horror movies with giant spiders in the old tv transmissions?? 😂
To be fair, it is one of those things you will encounter in this sort of setting. And I like the stuff done with the enemy. Reminds me of Known Space. The first time Kzinti met humans, they took them easily, and figured it was always going to be so. The second time they were blown away. Turns out, engines that move a ship the size of a mountain can also be used as weapons, it's just they hit a small scout ship the first time that didn't have time to reverse course.

This was great. I also enjoyed the mining episode too. I wish I could have a new story from this series every single day!
As someone with Acute Arachnophobia myself, I feel this one.
The day spider xenos show up it'll be the Greatest day for the Australians, there won't be a way to shut em up if that happens.
😂 why is this so true 😆
Well, the author's idea of what australia was during first contact is quite different...

As an Australian, I agree. I wonder how they'll react to find out that it sometimes rains spiders here?
I love this. More please. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I find small spiders scary, large ones like Tarantulas not so much. Most people think I'm weird for this, but they are really soft.
Certain small ones are fine - big ones need to remain a respectful distance of very far away from me.
Cute and furry! Boops, pets, and scritches to follow!
as over the planetary horizon loomed the blunt prow of the United Earth capital ship 'Rolled-up Newspaper'
the title made me laugh… and so did the ending.
best punch line of the week so far! ...afraid of spiders indeed! ;-)
If freakin spider aliens arrive, its flamethrower time, dont care if they are sentinent

A fusion drive is also a weapon - I don't remember the exact words. BTW: the transliterated Kzinti words are useful when a SFW curse is needed. 😅

@@SageofStars thanks!
Loving it!
I ain't afraid of no spiders! They do more good than harm....
I meet a humanoid spider, you'd better believe that I would very visibly recoil.
Maybe they should recruit a few Australians to correspond with him.
Space Faring Spiders…🕷️…Yikes! 😮
Great story! We are in trouble if 1st contact is with an insectoid race! LOL!!!
nice one.
But please don't use the punch line in the title. It was a bit of a spoiler.
