My word! Even after reading the title and knowing exactly what's about to happen, this kept me on the edge of my seat. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!
What a game. It broke our Irish hearts, but that is why New Zealand rugby and the All Blacks are the pinnacle of the sport. For every neutral it must of had them on the edge of their seats as well. It brought tears to my eyes but I was proud of every single Ireland player. There was no shame in that performance or result. #shouldertoshoulder
These are the classics where both teams win, because the game wins, the fans win.
And it makes the actual wins even more special.

The All Blacks team from 2013-2015 will go down as the greatest team the all blacks have ever assembled. 2013 would have to be New Zealand best Rugby season so many good games that year.

@@harrytonga5259 no it started in 2013. 2010/2011/2012 besides the WC win in 011 those years we had inexperienced teams. 2013 onwards is where we showed our matureness and class.

It will be a long time before we have an All Black team as good as this. The 2015 team was hands down the strongest team that has won a world cup.
that team in 2014 had so many house hold names and legends....the only house hold name that this current AB side has that springs to mind is Barrett and Smith and maybe Brody...the rest are forgettable. Just shows how horrible of a coach foster is

Best crowd I've ever been a part of. Did the Irish deserve better? Well that's sport. You did feel for the Irish fans walking out of the stadium though-they were absolutely crestfallen.
Bro, I was at this one too. Such a cool crowd, the Irish are the best. Weirdly, even the All Blacks fans were sombre on the flight back to England. It wasn't a happy vibe, more of a shocked one. Felt bad for the Irish though.

This would have been Irelands greatest ever win, because of how good that ABs side were (the best ever IMO), I don't think the ABs teams of 2016 or 2018 were as good.
Dublin this Saturday and 3 tests in NZ, June 2022, there is going to be alot of minutes of rugby against each other in the next year.
With Ireland trying to play a more expansive style hopefully those will be loads of exciting minutes!

I remember watching this on sky sports in the south island with the boys I never seen the room so quiet and focused on a game the Irish were on fire that day we were lucky to get the win in the dying minutes.. such a classic match

It was and as an Irish fella, though I was gutted I was still proud of the performance and eventually we managed to do it, twice. This weekend, who knows? Extra context. Earlier in the match the Irish charged at Cruden when he was taking a kick. He made that kick and the ref warned the Irish team then, do not charge early on kickers. Cruden being given a second shot at the end was fair play.
Yeah, our lads made a big mistake there, but that's how the cookie crumbles as they say.

The charge down was completely fine. Cruden started his run up with the little steps - Nigel got it wrong sadly. Typical!

I was 12 years old when this game happened. My family and I are born and bred in NZ but live in a small village in France. We were listening to the game on the radio. At half time my dad and I got in the car and drove into town to find the only open bar with a TV, we then asked if they had the game on as they werent watching it when we walked in. We found the game by some miracle and caught the last 30 minutes of play. When that second kick went over me and my Dad went berserk! There were 4 of us in the bar on a freezing cold day in the middle of rural France. I'll never forget it

Ever so often in sport come one of those moments ,Saturday night at 2012 London ,olympics ,Shane Warner bowling Andrew Strauss in the last over2005 ashes series and this match,awesome atmosphere ,awesome commentary by Eddie Butler and Brian Moore and awesome power ,resilience and determination to win from both teams! Bodies littered ,!wonderful comment straight from the heart.by 2commentators who were not just commenting but were there out on the pitch as ex professionals!
I couldn't tell you how many times I have watched the evolution of the great escape right from when Sexton missed a reasonable easy kick but every time I watch it unfold it still feels like the All Blacks are not going to grasp victory from the jaws of defeat...yet incredibly they did. Breathtaking exhibition of composure under enormous pressure and one for the ages.
Amazing last few minutes of continuity - and the sound of one of the commentators throwing his pen down in disgust at the last All Black try :-)

I was heartbroken that day, hurt badly....but we kicked on boys, we never forgot that and we've gotten our revenge. Well not when it REALLY matters, but still. The All Blacks no longer ignore my country, EIRE ABU! Love you New Zealand
That was one of the greatest rugby games ever. I was so depressed after the game but so proud of the Irish lads. That game has changed the mind set of Irish rugby for the better.

I was at that game with my dad on one of our father son trips. one of the greatest weekends we ever had together. He was always one (in sports at least) to go "oh the game is over" quite early. I kept on telling him: the game isnt over until the ref blows the whistle for the last time that night. We really felt for the Irish that day though. I remember us walking back from the stadium and talking to a police man. He asked us what had happened that the mood was so down amongst the irish. he had watched the first half at home before going on duty, so he couldn't watch the second half. We had to reassure him multiple times that we were not trolling him. poor fella. he couldnt even drown his frustration.

Yes that was a pulsating game alright, the Irish ☘️ were on fire. Certainly one of my favourites, rugby won that day.
What really breaks my heart was seeing who was number 5, Paul O Connoll who never registered a win against the AB's and one of the biggest legends of the game, well as a player at least, he now has one as a coach

Rugby Union is at it's best when there's continuity rugby open play plus phases mixing forwards then back and both and then repeating and varying and almost breaking through then swinging the other way then the defence almost get a look at the ball but remain off it to keep it legal (eg don't want to give a penalty so play carefully) then phases stack up, the attacking team move down the pitch in bursts - NO ONE DROPS THE BALL! - another break and finally a small gap and good skill and focus after minutes that seem like hour-minutes and a TRY at the end of it.
Amazing game when it happens like this in particular in relation to the score: Win or Lose all or nothing hanging on it: Glory and Despair in equal measure: One enhancing the other.
I'm a die hard All Blacks supporter, but on that night I wished Ireland won that, they didn't have to wait long after that one though to finally beat the All Blacks

As an Irishman, this defeat really hurt. As time passed though the brilliance of the ABs play in that final passage became obvious and (particularly given the situation) must go down as one of (if not) the finest passages of play in rugby history.
Watched this at the Faltering Fullback in Finsbury Park (North London). An Irish regular had a bottle of champagne opened on the bar when Ireland had the ball with a minute to play. When Cruden's kick went over, he just walked straight out of the pub

Why did they edit out the sound of the commentator throwing his mic or banging his fist or head on the the desk when Crotty dotted down, you could feel the angst in that sound.

@Scott Will1980 you can actually see the pass being made at the 5 Meter line and going 2 Meters. Absolutely forward pass. I'm not even Irish nor do I care, this is just a blatant forward pass that you're trying to justify as a legitimate pass because by not doing so it invalidates the glorification of your All Blacks.
The unchallenged kick was fine, I was just saying must have sucked to only he able to watch on and not challenge the kick
In May 2018 the Canterbury Crusaders came back from 29 nil to beat the NSW Warratahs 31 - 29 . the best come back i ever saw.

Man, I miss this team so much. It got to a stage where I just watched us to see how many points we would muster as wins were almost guaranteed. Since 2019 for me, I’m not sure what would happen each game. In the last few years we have lost to Argentina and Ireland for the first times as well as nearly lost to Scotland in the last minute. That World Cup semi final was when I fully knew the all blacks dominant era was done. We just got completely found out and exploited. Our game plan was too predictable, we struggle to deal with fast line speed. I honestly would not be surprised this year if Scotland beat us for the first time, then one day teams like Japan and even Italy/Fiji could find us out. The last 20 minutes of the Wales game 2 weeks ago was the best rugby I’ve seen us play in forever which is sad because there was a time in 2012-2015 that every game we would play like that. That was also Wales 3rd team. Disappointment mainly

Yup even back then the review said that was high and should have been a penalty. Would have been a 10 point swing as Carney wouldn't have scored from the subsequent play.

Why wasn’t Richie McCaw called offside as well as going in at the side at 3.08? The refereeing can’t ever be perfect so that why the TMO and the touch judges are there. Ireland really won that game, within the laws. But unfortunately the record books will always show that New Zealand were awarded it.
I reckon this would've been a better game for Ireland to win cos it would've broken the AB duck for BOD but unfortunately, he came close but never got there.

What a match. Finally Ireland playing more like Leinster anyway. After years of playing like Munster for some inexplicable reason. Should be a good match. Just hoping we don’t get hammered because you really never know with New Zealand. More concern for the last quarter and their ability to destroy teams in that period.

I never really saw that match as a comeback (it obviously was on the scoreboard), but the All Blacks didn't really get their game going until about 15 minutes to go. They started being more direct instead of chucking the ball wide... watching it live, it always felt inevitable...
