Thomas Moore doesn't live in the real world. Very few people are able to live from the place that he lives from as we do not come from a world that is orientated in his approach i.e. knowing what are our souls yearns for and what it is that the world wants from us. Most of us have been told what and how to think and have been punished for having different thoughts. Further to this, many of us have been severly abused as children and battle to know who we are. I tried to follow his approach because something in me responded to his writings and I ended up in a very dark place. Thomas Moore comes from what I can make out to be a fairly loving, supportive family which has laid a foundation for him to go out and express himself the way he does but for most of us, we battle to just live some sort of a fruitful life and many of us don't. He would say that my comments are unintelligent but what he doesn't seem to realize is that I am in the majority. I wish he would ground his ideas more so that they are available to the ordinary, "less intelligent" person. He would say that his ideas are ordinary but they aren't.
Don’t give up. The best way to know what Thomas Moore thinks is to read his books and to listen to lectures like this. Otherwise you don’t know what he thinks unless you get an in person interview. Many of us must parent and coach ourselves, especially in adulthood. You can learn what a good parent is, meditate on these qualities, and incorporate them into your life.
I don’t think he would say you are unintelligent. You are intelligent and conscious, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to express yourself the way you do. I don’t know why after reading his books you ended up in a dark place. Maybe it had nothing to do with his writings. Maybe you would have ended in that place anyway for we all seem to have to go through some sort of dark ordeal in our lives to truly encounter ourselves. Maybe what might seem as a dark place was your new beginning?
@gulliver I want to support what others have said. It is clear you are intelligent in the way you express. yourself. True, TM had a very positive upbringing (part of the 10%) which has allowed him to become the leader he is, leading us all to healing. Starting on the spiritual/soulful journey as you have embarked on brings with it a "dark night of the soul". It is part of the transformation. I encourage you to find a mentor- whether it's a teacher you admire, a person in your community you look up to and admire, a soulful psychotherapist, a meditation teacher, etc . Ask for a teacher/guide & they will come. You have a beautiful soul.
Extraordinarily beautiful
The sad thing is very few people have had a good fathering experience.

PS and ask yourself what is the real world you want to create for yourself?
