Hard coat is an amazing plaster to work with. You can strike sparks off the base coat ! Nice video ! Nice job. I remember the days walking backwards on stilts pulling a browning rod on the ceilings! I bought my plastering trowels on the net made in Italy. Three different sizes and I also have a very flexible Nela trowel . We do not have any plastering suppliers close by here any more. Years ago we could buy our plaster at most lumber yards. Great job you are a true craftsman my friend ! I am over 70 now and only do very small jobs . Running the big ceilings by myself are over. I have been experimenting with my own version with marble dust. The days of slacking the lime are almost passed cause most of the finishes we get here have the gauging already in it.
Doing my 1st bathroom with this product for a celebrity client in Martha's Vineyard. My boss has done this many time but I like i said it will be my 1st time and this video was a great way to take the anxiety away. Watched a few other videos and yours was easily the best! Great work and thank you for the knowledge sir.

Brilliant video, i'm a 25 year old qualified plasterer from the UK, been plastering for 3 years been in the building game for 6 years and i was thinking whats the next step what can make me different from the rest, this videos give me a mental boost and im going to try and find a venetian plastering course in the UK, thankyou for such a good narrative brilliant video
Hey. I started doing plaster and did several walls. The only issue I have is that sometimes the plaster peels off in small patches when I burnish it. I am trying to find out why that happens. I keep my tools clean and have a separate burnishing trowel. Do you have any tips how to prevent that from happening ?
Fantastic tips here. The dried pieces are really annoying and it would’ve been great to have that rag. I’ve just finished 1/2 of the area I’m doing and these tips should make the second half go a lot faster and be less frustrating. I’m varnishing the finished areas and it’s so beautiful 💕 Mine is a hallway though so no need to waterproof, I’m going to put a wax so hoping that part goes as easily as it suggests on the can 😆
Hello Steve, Could you speak about the wall preparation before you apply your base coat. You make look so easy, also your end product is a beautiful and classic product. Thanks
I use Durock cement board and plaster over that with Dryvit Primus and fiberglass mesh. Then primer with PVA, one coat of Venetian plaster let dry overnight and 2 coats of Venetian plaster to finish
What type of training would you suggest for someone looking to offer this service? Is this something I can learn the raw basics online and then practice at home? I’ve always wanted to do it. Fantastic video by the way, really appreciate you sharing your craft! Impressive.
Hi it's amazing job! I have few questions, why they asked me to give 3 coats of plaster and should i not let it dry too much to get a real mirror effect? The jobs I have done never get real shiny for some reason. Thanks.
3 coats, first coat you let dry overnight. It gives you a better base for finish by providing some suction. Then the 2 coat finish. Let the first coat get pretty dried out, you'll see patches of wet and dry areas when you apply the 2nd and Trowel it down pretty good as you go. Getting the shine requires that you come back and burnish with your Trowel when it's set up already, you shouldn't be able to take any off when burnishing. The more you Trowel the shinier it gets but also the more you Trowel the more colorful it gets.
I was watching this video and it’s beautiful, I had a question if you have time to respond. Can you put the first coat of the Atelier over fiber paper (waterproof)? Could you do that Or do you have to put cement ?
Lately I've been using normal venetian plaster and sealing it with sealers choice gold. The penetrating sealer i used before allows the plaster to get soap stains
I have used regular plaster. It can be used as different textures but you can not get any kind of shine and the player will not give the same quality of the the l your desired effect is smooth. I used to give me a deep texture as well as a medium thick and a slight texture but if you do it smooth, it will just look just be a plastered smooth wall.
I normally just use PVA primer. The manufacturers all have their own special primers but they charge a lot for it and I've never had any issues with PVA
Inside corners are best done one side at a time. I prefer to do outside corners both walls at the same time using a small piece of plastic to lay it down on the edge. That isn't always doable because of wall sizes so then I just work it to the edge one side at a time
your walls need to be almost a level 5 finish for this plaster to look amazing the way it was meant to. the last two steps before you apply the plaster are use a flat finish primer and than a base coat color close to that of the plaster finish. make sure you sand the primer coat but not the base coat
I have always been told that the product Brio from Veriance could not be used in a shower. I see that you used it and now it's been a couple of years, have you had any issues? When we plaster showers we make a custom blend of sand, lime and marble dust but it takes a lot of work. I am very familiar with Veriance I love to use the alto and the brio. It would be a lot easier to use brio vs our mix.
I did this in 3 showers at my house. There's been no issues with the plaster at all but the sealer hasn't held up well so I have soap stains on the shower walls where I used 511 impregnator and there's water spots on the shower I used a sealer that overlays, but only where it's continually hit with water so that sealer is eventually washing off there. I've also been back to see a customers shower after 3 years and there were zero issues on theirs. I've determined that heavy use showers need to be resealed every 1 1/2-2 years for cosmetic purposes. What sealer are you using?
I'm using loxon 40% silane water repellant. It works well. I also recommend applying a new coat every 2 years. Are you familiar with tadelakt? I'm going to experiment with brio. Thanks for the response.
From what I've read you can finish bathtubs with tadelakt because it's completely waterproof. Not so with Venetian plaster, its walls and ceilings only, water resistant. Also from what I've read I'd guess the cost of installing is double or triple. I haven't used tadelakt or seen it installed so I wouldn't say I'm a good source of information for this
@@leftshoreconstruction9758 have used tadelakt for an exterior project (concrete wall/bench around a patio) and it is definitely more expensive than Venetian plaster but executed in the same manner... just is more durable for weather related concerns.
It needs wax to be water proof. We do that after the burnishing. But he’s sealing it with a tile like varnish which isn’t as good. I’ve never seen any other venetian plasterer do that it may depend on the make of product
I'm now using a water based tile sealer rather than wax. At the time of the video I was using a solvent based tile sealer which I was taught to use originally for rooms outside of the shower. After testing in my own house I've discovered that the solvent based doesn't really seal it up and the water based works great.
Steve Stewart Left Shore Construction LLC but how come you just dont use wax you can polish it up with a buffer and its mirror like.im in uk and a tin of fine wax from valpaint is around 70 dollars us.
Has to be a small square trowel made by inox, as only a small enough trowel will allow you to create enough pressure when you are finishing or "burnishing" as they call it.
I’m no expert in Venetian but aren’t you suppose to do smaller strokes while laying it on the wall? I guess if this is for waterproofing the homeowner might not care about the look of it as much..
great job...but its funny tht its called venetian plaster when the tecnick is from ancient greeks and älso ancient egyptians ..and dont forget that greeks build almost äll itälys monuments and major citys

What do you apply to make it waterproof?
Apparently Polyurethane
Is a good seal
Part of my family heritage from Italy, our last name was plasters. Incredible for you to touch on the history. Thank you for that.

You do a great job man..
Hey there
Master plaster love your work. just wondering if you could give us a rundown of what materials you have used
Thanks
I put the plaster on wall in gobs spaced out a little and then smooth out whole wall. Like laying in with paint. I maintain the wet edge
We called this technic " marmorino' or " marmo" It has been used in Italy for a long time, I love the color pink the best,
Great video. Thank you.
nice informative piece,thanks
Every detailed video!
Thank you so much!

What do i put on ceramic wall before plaster,i wanna whole bathroom in venetian plaster, how to prepare ceramic walls?thanx
Hey where do you order that product what’s the base coat you used and where do you get pigments for different colors
I feel like you could cut that wall out and put it on a canvas and sell it as modern art
Aww he seems so sweet
Can you please tell me as you used penetrating tile sealer is that being used in place of wax?
Can you apply plaster over a joint compound wall?
What is the base material that you are putting the plaster on?
You dont mist the wall with water?.....or can you to extend working time?
So is this basically just like skimming with finish plaster only you have to trowel off in different directions?
What do you apply to make it waterproof????
What type of training would you suggest for someone looking to offer this service? Is this something I can learn the raw basics online and then practice at home?
I’ve always wanted to do it.

Great video! LED spot lights would be great for this right?
Yes they really bring out the shine. I have waterproof LED's in the shower ceiling
Great video! Thanks. Can you waterproof normal venetian plaster for a bathroom?
Lately I've been using normal venetian plaster and sealing it with sealers choice gold. The penetrating sealer i used before allows the plaster to get soap stains
Hello, trowel brand? I was recommended Pavan. Any suggestions?
Hey Steve can this be done with regular drywall compound? And how soon after first coat then end coat can be applied
No you must use a fine Venetian plaster product made from lime and marble dust
I have used regular plaster. It can be used as different textures but you can not get any kind of shine and the player will not give the same quality of the the l your desired effect is smooth. I used to give me a deep texture as well as a medium thick and a slight texture but if you do it smooth, it will just look just be a plastered smooth wall.
Nice job Steve 👍
Not very good im afraid
What product is used for the base coat
Hi, if you had a large wall to do and the area was to large to do in one go could you do it in two half, ?
I wouldn't recommend that. You'll need extra help
you dont wait 5-6 hours between each coat layer? in other instructions i read that venetian plaster each layer has to dry to full
Please can this be done on exterior walls. I want to avoid routine painting
Andrew Appiah
Check out silicone renders if you haven't already great pre colored and waterproof
Gripper seems to have changed the formulation so I’ve got delimitation issues on samples...which bonding primer do you recommend??
I normally just use PVA primer. The manufacturers all have their own special primers but they charge a lot for it and I've never had any issues with PVA
With valpaint you get a primer that has fine sand in it. It’s like ova with fine sand
Where can I buy this product ? Is there an alternative ?
Send me the link where to find the tool
so you have just 2 layers and then burnish it for gloss? why not 3 layers? no save on plaster material?
Can you thin venetian plaster if it gets too think (with water)?
Yes
What was the material of the wall before you applied the plaster? Was it just Sheetrock / drywall ?
In the room area primed drywall or plaster is sufficient. In the shower area its a cement board coated with mesh in a dryvit basecoat
Inox in Italian just means stainless steel. I’m wondering if that is the brand or just stating what it’s made if
Stainless steel is what it’s made from
Is it waterproof
Hi Steve. How do you work with corners
Inside corners are best done one side at a time. I prefer to do outside corners both walls at the same time using a small piece of plastic to lay it down on the edge. That isn't always doable because of wall sizes so then I just work it to the edge one side at a time
What would be the prep? Plastered flat right beforehand? and prep?
Plastered flat’primer from the company you get the Venetian plaster from
I saw an Italian expert how doing this wall. That was excellent. Sorry this gray wall P.o.Sh.
Hi my name is Jason before applying the first coat do wipe down wall and no sanding the wall?
I wonder they didn’t teach this painting apprenticeship program, but I see it cost but would valuable for the trade!

Viral Clown ye looks much better done like that

Also the type of metal used is a special stainless steel that doesnt leave marks on the wall. Other metals will
Nice change not to have dreadful music playing like most tutorials
Am a painter pls how may I contact you sir am in Africa Ghana
How can I contact you
Why didn't you buff it
It doesn't require buffing
Thank you for answering
No way you blunt your trowel down if you know what your doing it's a good and very handy way of cutting your scrim especially Hessian
That’s a shit ton of work! Not sure I want to attempt that. That’s a whole room worth of drywall finish on a tiny space!
you may doing it even 60 years , no matter, if you still doing it wrong!!
we have alot of mexicans doing it down in austin. i have to redo some , not all but most walls. JK. nice tutorial !

What a shame I couldnt actually watch the application as the video was high speed
Omg is this a video about cleaning your tools or plastering?? This guy is something
You make it pretty clear that this is not a DIY project.
I'm here because of the pot, the marijuana, and the plaster!
I’m just gonna guess that the primer is the same product but thinned
Gene Miller lime primed
