i think one of the things people sleep on is super's influence on his team outside of matches. he was not only the face but also the soul of the franchise. moreover in 2021, shock started to play super more on orisa and ball for some reason, while smurf would play more on monkey friendly maps(idk if smurf had personal issues). He may not be the mechanically best player on his team, however his existence in the was one the vital factors with the success of the franchise
I mean, while Profit can't run much hitscan that we know of. Fleta has all hitscan's covered. He literally played 12 different heroes in 2020 when he won MVP and not for a short amount of time on any of them really outside of like Widow and that's because Ashe was so good. Yeah no one wants to face that DPS line XD

You put a lot of respect in the old player’s, which I can respect. But let’s be honest here, the truth is gonna upset a lot of people but in general comparing players from 2018 against average players in 2021 is still a difference like comparing a 4200 to a 4500+. (So to speak) On top of that, pinpointing a players peak is harder than you make it out to be. Just because they performed the best in 2018 doesn’t mean that was their peak. I would even go out and say, a lot of players were at their best when they looked the worst. They grew, but the competition just grew faster. But I understand, a lot of OG fans will let their bias pick for them. I can respect the fan service and without context they indeed did look the best. Not that all old players are bad, some of them indeed deserve to be there.

And Sinatraa was the central carry for the Shock when they took their golden stage, not dropping a single map. He deserves to be in the conversation at the very least. Also.... Yes I'm on the ANS train.... 2020 Ans was the best hitscan bar none. He may not have returned to form totally in 2021, but he was thrown into a chaotic situation mid season so thats expected. He still played well though. Don't get me wrong Rascal is one of my favorite players, but Striker + Rascal is not the move. Striker + Ans would yield waaaaayyyyy better results.

Seoul is right on the outside of this line up, even with how good their roster is..just because..tanks, their tank situation has never been great, and neither have their coaching, can't say their coaches would do the right thing with the roster even if they got it (see benching Fleta...like at all..which they did often). (FYI, Titans is not on here at all because it's incredibly hard to tell how they would do based on how things turned out...and based on just not knowing how good their set up would be outside of non Goats..as when they got pushed hard by Shock in the finals that year...they just folded hard)

Im not even an Shock fan, but Sinatraa was not only the best player during the GOATs era and in those playoff season where he got the MVP, he is one of the greatest players to ever touch in this game. As a Dallas fan since S1, I'd pick Effect over Decay for the same reason you picked Fissure over Bumper for Vancouver. Decay might have drawn better results but his attitude issues and falling out with the team is a black stain for me, whereas yes, Effect had issues with depression and stuff, but he was always dedicated to the success of his team and a better team member all around.
I wonder what the league would look like if multi-year contracts were way more common, it would be cool to see core rosters mostly set in stone for a couple years to see how they grow as individuals and how their coordination improves. Kinda something OWL misses out on compared to other esports like CSGO or League where you'll see some teams run basically the same squad for a few years at a time.
You could've taken Pine for Dallas since it's about the peak of their career, but I respect decay. Not sure which one is actually better, just a thought that popped into my mind when watching the Dallas segment.
I feel it needs to have some clearer rules. Are we taking it based on when they were on the team or by there peak in OWL. Because if it's just off the peak of OWL then reign would have astro for main support from when he was signed as a 2 way.
Its not just that, Super was also the starting tank on 3 of their 4 map wins in the 2021 Championship. Don't get me wrong, I love Smurf, and we've seen him do some great stuff on Winston, but anyone who thinks he is more versatile, or a better playmaker, just isn't paying attention
I love custa and honestly I would have him as one of the best and most consistent mercy players of all time, him, Ark and Biggoose were amazingly good at staying alive and keeping their teams up. His Lucio was still amazing in season 2 and he can play flex support too. I don’t think rain was as good as custa in any regard IMO
Jjanggu > Dreamer. I respect your opinion but Jjanggu was crazy good on the rein, had a decent monkey, and I feel like he had a lot of potential to improve if he kept playing.
As a professional Seoul dynasty analyst. I would have to say you really could’ve just picked fleta, profit, and fits. Cause realistically each one of them has different comfort heroes I would say(minus tracer for profit and fleta). Fits covers hitscan, sombra, and doom (people always forget about his doom in 2019), profit has tracer, genji, pharah and hanzo. Fleta covers echo and mei. It would be EASILY the best trio in owl history.
For shock I understand the bad stuff sinnatra did to his girlfriend but assuming we look past that (like atp did for some other players) he was definitely a better player than rascal, getting the freaking mvp, so why not even mentioned?
I think you could still argue that Rascal was better (I don’t think rascal at his best is as good as sinatraa’s best, but I think consistency wise rascal was better) but yeah sinatra’s peak is monstrous

Sinatraa probably wouldn't work because of the fact you already have Striker. Sinatraa was only really strong on Zarya, Doomfist, and Tracer,and he got MVP only off of his zarya and doom play and when you already have choi and striker that only leaves doom as his strong suit which isn't enough compared to rascals flexibility.
For the shock, I would disagree with moth. This will be a SUPER hot take, but if you don’t have super in there you don’t need a main support. Twilight comes with the considerably higher play making for a small cost. Smurf won’t be playing rein, so it’s not like you will need moth for lucio, in most comps you will just have twilight or viol2t fill to brig or mercy. IMO that’s the move.
Overall I would say pretty good lists, but definitely some questionable choices here and there imo. If we are taking players from their OWL peaks regardless of the team they were on at the time then EQO over Rascal, Piggy over Meko, Marve1 over Gesture and Jehong over Bdosin are all mistakes at least to me personally. Also I think Smurf over Super and Libero over Haksal are at least fair arguments to make, but again, personally I would come down on the other side of them.
I wouldve gone with Corey over Ttuba if the comms wasnt an issue. that dps line wouldve been like Fleta and Profit on Seoul. I also wouldve gone with Closer over Ark so my lineup (with no comm. issues) for washington wouldve been Corey, Decay, Mag, Fury, Closer, Aimgod. that lineup would be CRACKED in their primes.

super is a much better rein while smurf is a much better orisa their styles of play match the tanks they’re good at very well

Decay might have drawn better results but his attitude issues and falling out with the team is a black stain for me, whereas yes, Effect had issues with depression and stuff, but he was always dedicated to the success of his team and a better team member all around.

I wonder what the league would look like if multi-year contracts were way more common, it would be cool to see core rosters mostly set in stone for a couple years to see how they grow as individuals and how their coordination improves. Kinda something OWL misses out on compared to other esports like CSGO or League where you'll see some teams run basically the same squad for a few years at a time.

You could've taken Pine for Dallas since it's about the peak of their career, but I respect decay. Not sure which one is actually better, just a thought that popped into my mind when watching the Dallas segment.
Pine was not nearly as good as people think. He was a phenomonal hit scan but his decision making was many times actively hindering his team.

Its not just that, Super was also the starting tank on 3 of their 4 map wins in the 2021 Championship. Don't get me wrong, I love Smurf, and we've seen him do some great stuff on Winston, but anyone who thinks he is more versatile, or a better playmaker, just isn't paying attention
I love custa and honestly I would have him as one of the best and most consistent mercy players of all time, him, Ark and Biggoose were amazingly good at staying alive and keeping their teams up. His Lucio was still amazing in season 2 and he can play flex support too. I don’t think rain was as good as custa in any regard IMO

As a professional Seoul dynasty analyst. I would have to say you really could’ve just picked fleta, profit, and fits. Cause realistically each one of them has different comfort heroes I would say(minus tracer for profit and fleta). Fits covers hitscan, sombra, and doom (people always forget about his doom in 2019), profit has tracer, genji, pharah and hanzo. Fleta covers echo and mei. It would be EASILY the best trio in owl history.

I think you could still argue that Rascal was better (I don’t think rascal at his best is as good as sinatraa’s best, but I think consistency wise rascal was better) but yeah sinatra’s peak is monstrous

Sinatraa probably wouldn't work because of the fact you already have Striker. Sinatraa was only really strong on Zarya, Doomfist, and Tracer,and he got MVP only off of his zarya and doom play and when you already have choi and striker that only leaves doom as his strong suit which isn't enough compared to rascals flexibility.

For the shock, I would disagree with moth. This will be a SUPER hot take, but if you don’t have super in there you don’t need a main support. Twilight comes with the considerably higher play making for a small cost. Smurf won’t be playing rein, so it’s not like you will need moth for lucio, in most comps you will just have twilight or viol2t fill to brig or mercy. IMO that’s the move.

Overall I would say pretty good lists, but definitely some questionable choices here and there imo. If we are taking players from their OWL peaks regardless of the team they were on at the time then EQO over Rascal, Piggy over Meko, Marve1 over Gesture and Jehong over Bdosin are all mistakes at least to me personally. Also I think Smurf over Super and Libero over Haksal are at least fair arguments to make, but again, personally I would come down on the other side of them.

I wouldve gone with Corey over Ttuba if the comms wasnt an issue. that dps line wouldve been like Fleta and Profit on Seoul. I also wouldve gone with Closer over Ark so my lineup (with no comm. issues) for washington wouldve been Corey, Decay, Mag, Fury, Closer, Aimgod. that lineup would be CRACKED in their primes.

Okay... I'm gonna say it. I just don't think Decay is a good choice. I will fully agree that he is an amazing player. HOWEVER, I feel that he isn't a great teammate. I just don't think he makes the players around him better. Also, while his mechanics are stellar, his mentals have some real issues.
