    Totally understand why you might feel this way, Andrew. I want you to be this great, creative and evolving artist that you've been sharing with us all this time. Everyone needs time to recharge to avoid their creative process just becoming a series of similar songs about travelling between gigs . Your generosity with your TH-cam audience and your fantastic openness and willingness to share your enthusiasms and nuggets of wisdom has really inspired me and I'm sure countless others, and it has definitely earned you the right to set your own pace. I for one will still be here looking forward to whatever you choose to share whenever you choose to share it.
    No regrets Andrew! No regrets for being true to yourself!

    Much respect! I honestly can't wrap my head around how you were able to upload so frequently with such high quality content before. I appreciate the time you must have spent on editing your videos, let alone just researching your information, writing your songs, coming up with ideas, etc. It's an exhausting process, and you made it look easy. I think a break is in order, you deserve it! Cheers :)

      Wow! I was literally just binge-watching the rare earth playlist! What a coincidence! Also, I couldn't agree more. I make indie games and I tend to fill up all my free time working because making them is my dream. I have to actively step back and do other things because if I want to actually finish a project I can't work for 3 weeks straight for 10 hours a day and then burn out.

    I honestly have so much respect for creators like Andrew who upload on a schedule, but at the same time I've always feel bad for them. As a human audience member, I always see other humans who feel entitled to "receive" a video according to the creator's schedule and it's like, who tf do you think you are?! Creator's are people too and deserve their breaks.... Being creative 24/7 is a recipe for self destruction. Much love and respect from NYC Andrew!!!!!!!

    You said you aren't saving lives, I disagree. I've been playing guitar and piano for a little over 9 years, but I didn't get serious about it until I stumbled upon your channel and realized my dream is to make music even half as good as yours. If it weren't for the videos you make I might get stuck at some boring desk job doing something I have no interest in. I might make twice as much as I do as a musician, but I wouldn't be enjoying life; I'd be wasting it. In my eyes, you save lives because you help people realize their true passions. You help people realize that loving what you do and being excited to go to work when you wake up is one of the keys to being happy. You save would've-been-wasted lives Mr. Huang.

    I audibly laughed when you recalled what you did during the day, because it's eerily similar to how I work. I always go to sleep thinking that I didn't get anything done. I've spoken to others that also have a strenuous upload schedule and the number one thing they talk about is how important taking time off is. Thanks for the perspective, man, and keep up the great work (even if that means relaxing)

    I'm so happy you're opening up this discussion. I know a lot of people are pushing themselves way too hard, I'm definitely one of them, and it's so unhealthy for all of us. It creates a loop where everyone needs to push even harder because our neighbour is. I mean the reason we create is for our own happiness, so we should really be mindful about not losing ourselves in the process. ❤️ I needed this video right now, I need to back off a bit too. You keep inspiring me in so many ways, thank you Andrew.

      More time for yourself and to recalibrated and to do things you never had time for like making and enjoying a cooked meal and going to bed earlier. I definitely recommend taking a break for every reason Andrew has discussed. I temporarily closed all my accounts and it felt great. One thing I didnt miss was the feeling I must post a performance or worry about losing support. Enjoy your time off.

    I want to say that I am throughly impressed by you. Your outside the box thinking and passion allowed you to blaze a trail in music to build a career. Its really inspiring, particularly in this day and age when the "industry", or at least what used to be the industry, is still croaking out its final death rattle. I can relate with this, but on a much smaller scale. For a while I was publishing a video once every week, and I eventually burnt out. Greetings from London! Andrew you're such an inspiration that even your announcement of taking a break is inspiring. I came across your channel this January and you instantly became a favourite. You also sparked a huge boost of motivation as I observed just how prolific you are. Finish what you started is the most valuable lesson I've learned from your channel and I've since revisited a 7 year old production, and actually finished it! Now I feel even more inspired to finish the other 400+ unfinished compositions! I must complete my dissertation first though! Thank you so much for all your hard work. I love your videos, there is so much valuable education that I need a week or two just to grasp these new concepts and approaches to music making. So ultimately, I think less frequent releases will be great! Enjoy your break, and please for the sake of your health and your family, take a vacation man!

    Honestly this is something I've been wondering about. You make sooo much good quality content that I've really been impressed by how much you're able to put out, because not many other people can do that. I totally understand how that is unsustainable though, and I'm glad you are taking this time off, because you need it. Thank you Andrew for what you've given the youtube community and music lovers, and I really enjoy what you are doing and will continue to do so.

    I enjoyed this a lot. It's REALLY hard to produce videos without half-assing something. When i started my channel, I thought to myself "Okay, well I'll spend half a day a week making a video.". That half day turned into 2 days, 3 days if anything went wrong, which it always does. I abandoned the "release schedule" entirely. Free gear is only great when you actually have time to play with it. Keep up the excellent work!

    Absolutely feel you brother. Take a look at my channel...I create videos that often involve 50-100 between cast and crew, months of work per video...it was sustainable for a few years (at first I was entirely alone but eventually grew a very large team), but I more than burnt myself out...I ended up in the hospital permanently...I'm almost at over a year of not creating. Please take care of yourself. I speak from experience, it's not worth burning yourself out over. Hope you figure things out man, you've done a great job at building your channel. Good luck my friend. • @RunicSigils
      @RunicSigils 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's sad is that expecting such things is for some reason deemed not okay by most brainlets on the internet.
      In reality, I don't care if you mother died, I don't care if your girlfriend left you, I don't care if you're hamster bit your finger and you need it for editing... Outside of a full on emergency, you upload a video making sure people know you're going to be missing for a while, just as you would for an office job.
      When it's a hobby that's one thing, but when it's your primary job like this is for many of the bigger TH-camrs it's not okay to just leave your audience high and dry with no explanation _up front._
      That said, while he doesn't deserve praise for this video, he has once again proven to me that he deserves every single cent of the money he's gotten from me via Patreon and Bandcamp over the last few years.

    My favorite videos of yours are where you take a bizarre concept, and take it to ridiculous extremes; Cover an 80s song in a dubstep style, make music with radiator sounds, or carrots, that kinda thing. Obviously those videos take a long time to shoot, and maybe it's my memory playing tricks on me, but I feel that there have been a lot less of those recently, probably because of the strict schedule, and we've had a lot of tech demos instead, which I'm sure are valuable for some people, but not me.
    Take some time off, you deserve a vacation, and no one worth listening to will begrudge you that, and when you come back find the projects that really speak to you and give them the attention and time they need. It shows when you commit to something, and those are the videos I keep coming back to watch and listen to years later.
    And if you find yourself having the compulsive urge to upload MOAR, there's this really neat Canadian musician who has a song for you th-cam.com/video/DbMaGRUFjgc/w-d-xo.html

    This means a lot to me. I went through a bad burnout over a year ago, and I'm still recovering. Seeing you share your experience makes me feel understood. It makes me feel more comfortable sharing my own experience with it. We need to share these experiences so that more people can understand the problem, so that it can be more easily avoided.
    Too many people going through this are scared to talk about it because they don't understand it, or because they're afraid that others won't understand it. You've already helped over 100k people understand it better by making and posting this video. That's more meaningful to me than any amount of new super cool music videos-but that's easy to say when you've already made more than enough super cool music videos to keep most people entertained for years.
    Enjoy your break, and realize that you're helping people by doing so. Don't be afraid to take some extra time off if you need it.

    Hey Andrew, I think this one should be added to the "crown jewel" list because of its authenticity. I actually felt this coming in the absence of the epic food-based cover songs and "Best of 20XX" medleys. It's so ironic that what often propels our success also prompts us to withdraw from it. Just know that my three kids and I have many a time huddled around to watch the latest upload, and making you an adopted member of the household unbeknownst to you. ❤ And thanks to you my kids now know what modular synthesis is and are making really cool tracks on their tablets. As a musician I have also gotten a lot out of your prolific-ness (is that a word?) and your ability to finish projects and execute ideas. So, I trust your fans are gonna stick around. I know we will. See you in two weeks!

    The crazy thing is that no matter what size youtuber you are its all the same experience. I work a full time job as an IT person and I release 3 cooking videos a week. thats 3 videos that take 10 - 12 hours to make on top of research, social media marketing, and then add on life. Its kinda wild. I hate that it doesn't get easier, but I still want to push through it to grow my channel! Good Luck Andrew, Take a break and enjoy!!!! I bet you'll come back and grow even larger because your quality will be even better!

    Andrew, I've learned so much from your videos. I was even more excited to learn that you're a Toronto artist, I'm living in Hamilton for work right now. I'm an emerg doc, so I don't have a ton of time to put towards the dream I always had of producing electronic music from a variety of genres (I used to DJ breaks, DnB, house back in the day and missed it when it was hard to fit it in when I was in school). It's not going to be easy, but you and a few other TH-camrs inspired me to give it try, because I'll never know if I can do it if I don't try. Starting to learn eurorack, and Ableton as well (something I was putting off for the last 2 years...it's a daunting undertaking).
    Very much looking forward to watching all your future brilliant content, just always remember that your happiness needs to come first!
    All the best!

    It's something it seems most hard working creatives go through - and I think pushing hard for a long period of time is actually good, to build it as a muscle - but you still need to release it in order to let it grow. So if there's any doubt, I think you should let go of that, and the same way you built structure and a schedule for your youtube growth, I think you should schedule the breaks, too. Annualize it at least.

    • @Wintergatan
      @Wintergatan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I once heard the story about top athletes having a common trait - they are all super good at relaxing, sprinters look lazy as soon they sit down cause they are just so relaxed, tennis players waiting for the opponent to hit the ball relaxes every single muscle and then explode the next moment when the opponent hits it. Your comment made me think of that, schedule the relaxation to let the muscles grow, guess we all could learn from that!
