    This ... is... saving me right now!! I'm from Iowa, right on the Mississippi River where Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin all come together. I took up SUP about 4 years ago and quickly became bored of it because nobody around here really does it. SO i thought it was a natural progression to pair my childhood love for fishing with my new love for SUP, and I've become a pretty darn strong fisherwoman/SUP'ing chick! I'm a single divorced mama so i really had to save my pennies, (i mean SAVE HARD!) and i finally had scraped up enough change and used enough different types of poles to see what i liked by the end of last summer, that i was able to finally get my dream rod and bait casting reel! .... Seriously... it's the best of the best sort of feeling to grab a big, fighting, toothy fish out of the water when you're standing up, going downstream! I completely grabbed on to this new venture of mine with both hands and seriously studied it and fished with legit fisherman around here to figure out behavior and what to use, etc... you have so many things to think about when on the SUP that multiplies your experience adn gets you to the neatest spots! Man.. the current, am i going to get caught up, where am i going to throw this line so i dont float right past it.... i'm basically in love with this sport. I spent HOURS and HOURS just throwing the crankbait off of my new bait caster so i could learn to do it without snagging every time (and with that, i learned how to untangle ANY snag, haha!) today i found this video by looking for awesome places to SUP fish! You guys are living my dream haha, i hope you're still loving life!! Someday maybe I can get a piece of one of these fishies :)

      Jenny, thanks so much for the info on your adventures and your diving into the sport of SUP fishing. It truly is a wild experience and we are very blessed to have accomplished the things we have down here in Costa Rica. If you ever make it down this way be sure to hit us up!

      @@BackwaterFlyFishing I will do that!! I'm really not exactly thriving so well in Iowa at the moment , as i've been working from home since March (COVID) and it's dark outside now by the time i get off work... I NEED SOME SUNSHINE and fresh air and activity! lol as-is why i'm currently looking at where to go. Vacation time is of plenty at the moment, so i'm looking hard for somewhere soon!!! Any suggestions for stays around there? I literally have zero idea of where to start. thanks!

      Does that fly float with the hook end up or down in the water?

    Beautiful filming friend, here in Brazil we have a very similar fish that is called matrinxã and that we use plastic beads that imitate fruits or cork too.

    Great footage and great video. I guess for some reason I never thought about targeting a non predatory fish. It’s crazy to see them feeding like that.

    • @BackwaterFlyFishing
      @BackwaterFlyFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are predatory in the sense that they do eat insects and small baitfish; however, their main diet is fruit, nuts, and flowers.

      We live and guide here in Costa Rica for now so we will be continuing to explore what some of the secrets of this place have to offer. We will be spending a week in Belize this August and then we don't have many plans after that. We shall see.

      You can but the machaca are not that great. We release all the fish we catch.
