One other reason of Chinese non interference in 1971 was because of Indo Soviet Friendship Pact of 1971. USSR was behind India during this war, which kept China & US in check. And USSR was one of the earliest major power to recognize Bangladesh as an independent country after the war.

One thing I learnt from this video that we have to deal with China aggressively. It can be seen from the 1967 incidents. As nathula where Majar Sagat Singh aggressively stayed at Nathula is in our hands. But in jelepla we were defensive so it is not in our hands now.

1962 defeat was because of the only presence of Reserved forces in the border. It could be different story if Indian Army was present there.

I'm not a defense expert but China's non-interference in the 1971 war, was also due to the fact that in Dec, the mountains are covered with snow. This was a major reason why Field Marshall Manekshaw argued with the then PM of India that Pak cannot be attacked in summer (yes, readiness of the force was also a reason but the advantage of winter snow was the chief reason). Rather US had asked China to attack India during the 71 war.

I was deployed in cho la pass around 2015 in posts named , 3 zero 4429 , gullies , Rai Top , attached with 3 madras taking over from 17 rajput .
Actually the distance of nathula from Cho la is around 20 kms through inter connected road
from3 Zero > Chola lake >Chaman top>Tamze>nagchowk>Shivaji valley>Thegu brigade and you get road to head towards nathula & Gangtok
there is rock named mao rock in 4429 post
in chola pass , The Gorkhas were deploed in cho la pass area , there is also a war memorial in cho la near cho la lake in memory of the fallen soldiers .
