To be able to explain this verse fully, I'm going to explain it to you part by part starting from the first one :
Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you,
Part one : Allah is telling us here that our wives are the place of pregnancy for us meaning that they bring us kids when we have an intercourse with them.
so come to your place of cultivation however you wish and put forth [righteousness] for yourselves
Part two : Allah is telling us to approach our wives whenever and however we want to meaning that we can practice whatever position we want with them during an intercourse as long as it is in the female reproductive organ not in any other place (I.e. anus).

Second, the verse tells that the virtue of husband is because of certain responsibilities he fulfills. So the wife contributes back to the family by being obedient and by guarding her chastity.
