Adam Savage Paints an Astromech for Magic Wheelchair!

- Adam takes part in one of the team builds for this year's Star Wars-themed Magic Wheelchair project, painting up a scaled R2-D2 dome that'll go on a Jedi starfighter. Follow along as Adam goes through the process of masking and painting this Carbon 3D-printed part, and then heads to Comic-Con for the project reveals!

As a wheelchair user, this would have BLOWN my childhood mind. As an adult wheelchair user, I'm still jealous. Great project. Those were amazing builds.

This is incredible. Totally not ashamed to say I teared up when all the kids' chairs were revealed at the end. So amazing.
I swear I love this man's work.. it would be awesome to have an apprenticeship from him. Learning from the best would be a dream come true
Tested needs more Adam doing projects. Watching him simply paint is mesmerizing.
This is making my eyes sweat a little bit. Magic Wheelchacir is one of that most fulfilling charities to work with. Was SO super stoked to help out and can't wait for next year's build! Feel like hugging all the builders again after seeing this.
I teared up a bit seeing the happy looks on the children's faces. That is such a cool thing, and it's so awesome to know there's an organization that does this sort of thing.
Whenever I watch Adam work I get ASMR because his voice is so calm and soothing like Bob Ross and just makes you want to be there with him.
This project just gets more and more amazing every year!

Thanks Adam for all you do. You remind me of how great the City and the people who occupy it are. After 26 years I needed to move away to help my elderly parents in their last years. And I miss my real home so much. It's been almost 20 years and I still pine for the Bay Area every day. Thanks, you are a fine example of good people.
I wish there are real-time videos of Adam building stuff. It's so relaxing to watch.

Did anyone else shed a tear at the end because I did. It mad me so happy seeing the kids at the end!!
Gotta say, you would really love powder coating tape for masking. It makes everything about masking easier and better. It's translucent, so you can see where you're putting your tape down, and it cuts cleaner and straighter than the blue stuff. It bends and shapes onto corners easier, and you can even bake it!
Seriously if you don't use it now, get some. ULine carries it.
Also this event is great. So cool to do this for these kids. Good on all of you for using your creativity to really brighten some lives.

I’d either ask to make a Han Solo Hero Blaster or a Conan Atlantean Sword lol.
There have been a few collabs like that, he's done stuff with Vsauce, Aaron Douglas from Battlestar Galactica, helped fix a friend's cat wheel and more.
I think the biggest issue with collabs is getting a time where both people can be in the same place at the same time for a day of filming. Like Adam says in this video he was in production for Mythbusters Jr and then had to go out to Comic Con, his schedule is pretty full, then there is getting someone in San Fran on a day he is free... Flying someone out or going somewhere just for a build wouldn't make money and takes time...

Around 7 years ago I built my son a half size Davros chair (from Dr Who). As he is a part time wheelchair user (severe heart condition) it ran on castors and he could move it with his feet.

Try the metalcast ground coat too as a base, looks awesome under the anodized color! Probably gives it more of a metallic quality than just painting over chrome.
I love it when it gets to around 1:30 and the only sounds are what adam is doing. You can feel the level of focus through the screen
Yea that's one of my favorite things about his one day build videos. It seems like most other build montages on youtube always put a cheesy music or something in the background but with Adam it's just raw audio of him working. I love it!

Making things is my interest but it might not be yours so please just click off the video. Thank you Adam and tested I love how Adam can make anything on his one day builds even if there really not a day. :) Adam u inspired me to change my shop and go into graphic design and hopefully become a maker like you. I would love to be a prop maker also. again thank you and keep up with the great content.
There is another Blue that us used for numerous R2's out there, it's duplicolor Chevy Sonic blue, I think it looks even better than the anodized blue you are using :)
