Honestly I appreciate just how respectful you guys were after he tried to get a better deal on the coin. It doesn’t matter if he thought y’all were making more out of him than on eBay. If you agree to a price on the phone then realistically the buyer should honer that price and not try to haggle you down to a lower price.

Agreed but its also like buying a used car. If the seller has it listed at $8750 but it needs day new tires or the pain doesnt look as good in person but mechanically its sound you try to haggle a little maybe offer $8000 and see if they'll bargain some. Maybe they counter at $8500 and you settle at $8250. Just because you list it on eBay for $XXXX doesn't mean its set in stone.

@ yeah, but in this case there was nothing wrong with the coin. The one guy wasn’t even interested and the other one was. It’s just that they had agreed on a price beforehand after several discounts which isn’t a very good look for the buyer. I definitely would never choose to deal with people like that if I had the choice.

    • @joeyoest1105
      @joeyoest1105 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@Meow_Ag47but this is more like: you call and agree on a price, come and see the car and it’s exactly as described in perfect condition (which they admitted in the video), and then try to get a lower price with some nonsense about fees. At the end of the day, it’s either worth it to you or it isn’t - the dealer’s profit or loss is (or should be) pretty irrelevant*. If the coin didn’t looks as nice as it was represented in the pics, then they’d have said that and asked for a discount for that reason.
*caveat - I’m not talking about unscrupulous dealers taking advantage of folks here. I mean the difference between 20% over and 30% over.

    a deal is a deal.
    Period.
You did the right thing holding firm.
I had a friend who sold a vintage guitar for $500,000. The buyer sent a check for $200,000 and a representative to pick up the guitar and deliver $300,000 in cash. After counting out the money, the buyers rep was $800.00 short. he told my friend "it's only $800..." thinking that staring at $299,200.00 in cash would sway him into accepting the shortage. My friend said "NO!" The deal was for $300,000.
Miraculously, the rep came up with the extra $800.00
    Always hold the line.
    Always keep your word.

I'm direct with pricing and I'll let know if there is room. I only use the term "lock" for bullion because it's a moving market. For the 79 CC you went above to detail how you arrived at the number. Once the counter offer is accepted it cannot be changed! The only reason to come to the office was to see the coin in person. It's either yes or no at that point. The terms were already finalized ahead of time

I've seen folks like the guy with the 79CC Morgan before. An older coin dealer I worked with before called them lookie-loos and said that he's seen those kinds of folks all his time owning a shop. They like seeing the expensive coins and want to look at them, but never want to buy (or they want the coin for a lot less than the dealer paid). He never seemed to mind them until they started eating significantly into his time when he was busy. I feel like they wasted your time so I wouldn't have budged on the price either. In fact you guys were quite nice
So the second set of folks couldn't be bothered to attend the meeting that they demanded, then it turns out that they have a small pile of coins with very little value. Unless the folks are willing to meet when you guys were already planning to be in the office a few pictures is a very small thing to ask, or at least tell you what they have. If they don't know what the coins are and won't send pictures it's probably not worth your time

But mainly I don't think they were there to buy it in the first place I think they just wanted to see it they were wasting your time and the other reason I think they were there to pitch their little line for the other coin that he wanted you to keep in mind for him to buy in the future. He presented himself as a big buyer by showing up to look at this expensive coin just so you would remember him for his other coin that he really wanted. I think you did the right thing you should have sent him packing earlier

It appears they were just being petty and cheap trying to get the coin for close to what you got it for which would make zero sense. They knew the nogociated price and when they saw it in person they were shocked at how great it was. Personally if i were meeting you and saw how nice it was, I would have offered you the store price (even if you agreed to do less) cause as a fellow coin collector and seller for 29 years now, I understand both sides and have no issue paying up for high end coins I want. Great video and 100% on your side on the first transaction. Let me add - $8620 would be the price after eBay fees. So the buyer was very wrong about that.
Regardless, the buyer didn’t handle the transaction correctly (we can’t always expect retail transactions to go cleanly - some people simply aren’t aware of trading etiquette)
I think you handled the situation pretty much perfectly. My only advice: when you are justifying the price of a coin to a retail client (which you shouldn’t have had to do in this case), I’d put more emphasis on why the coin itself is worth $8250, and leave out why *you need to get $8250. To a retail buyer, it doesn’t matter why you need the money - it matters more that they are paying the right number in a vacuum.
Certainly leave in the fact that you did travel to purchase the coin, etc - it lets the buyer sympathize with the work you put into obtaining the coin. But it shouldn’t factor into the price at all.
A very subtle difference but psychologically changes the dynamics of the negotiation.

I think you’re solid from a business standpoint. I like locking in the number and I think the customer would wave the volatility of metals currently.

You guys did it exactly right. Sometimes a deal can't be reached. Always get photos unless you know the person or know about the person. That'll end the scenario of waste of time.

Deal 1 - you represented yourselves and the coin accurately. Nothing more could have been done - if they don't want to buy them that's how it goes.
Deal 2 - never waste your time on a deal unless you've confirmed what the seller has to offer. Especially foreign coins. Live and learn.

This type of video is helpful to showcase the various scenarios that might occur. Great job in sticking to your guns on the first case. You have shown in other videos with dealer-to-dealer negotiations that people have firm numbers that they have to have for a coin. You will always have customers trying to get a better deal no matter what you are trying to sell! Try using that lock in price language in your verbal negotiations and actual paperwork. Update your processes in regard to no show's clients. For example, physical therapy appointments have consequences if you do not show up for appointments. Doctor offices are another example. For Christmas you might invest in getting more copies of your keys so that doesn't happen again.

Thanks for the Tips, I'm also glad to say that I've got a pleasant friendship with my Local Coin and Bullion Dealer! My Local Coin and Bullion Dealer told me to becareful at flee Markets,I learned of a woman at the Flee Market selling Silver Chains, but unfortunately those chains didn't have alot of Silver on them! Turns out those chains were mostly copper with light Silver plating, however the woman tried passing them off as 925 silver! I was already skeptical when I seen the 925 wasn't actually Stamped on the Chain itself, but a tag hanging off a loop attached to the chain,I figured if people can do that at a flee Market people can also pass off fake coins and bullion! Hope some of the information is helpful to someone!best of luck!

Excellent call to not further lower your price. Not every deal is meant to happen. Keeping a bridge in place can be helpful. For instance, closing a meeting with an invitation to future deals saves face for a non buyer in the future.

Just like you agreed on the phone they knew the price. If it met what they wanted they should pay the agreed price. If it didn’t thank you guys for your time. I think you did exactly what I would have done. Everyone wants a better deal I get that but sometimes the price is what it is

Really admirable of you guys to be so patient with the first guys, to say in person that it's 20% of his collection as that is some how your fault and then the CAC premium also like both were unknowns is just bad etiquette. I don't also get asking then to source a non CAC example like it's such a lower price point.

For that first potential sale, I think it was not only great how you broke down what you'd net had it sell on eBay vs an in-person transaction. Not to mention the fact that they'd be getting a better deal in-person + the fact that you'd actually be netting less. You seem to only present reasons to buy the coin and give no reasons a person wouldn't. Unfortunately that doesn't change the coin sitting there. Can't sell a multi-thousands of dollar coin for pennies on the dollar just because. Bravo gentlemen!

I think you guys handled the first situation fine. I personally would have been a little annoyed by the buyer, but oh well. About the only improvement I would have made was to have STRESSED to the buyer that you were 100% firm on the price before he traveled to your office. Maybe you did, but he still thought you had more room. Anyway, good job. Very professional dealings. Thx for creating these vids. Super fun to watch and learn.
