    Hello from NZ. I watched all your videos on dog breeding this far and wanted to know what you can do to make sure the puppies go to a good home. What are some appropriate questions or a buying process you can ask/use that wont offend the buyers and still ensure the puppies are well taken care of after they are sent away?

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We engage buyers in polite conversation about the breed. Do they have dogs? Have they ever had one of this breed before? Aware of the activity level and needs? Do they visit a vet with their pets regularly? Fenced yard or access to a park for exercise?
      These are all leading questions that get a conversation going about dog ownership. Trust your instincts and use your best judgement. In the end people may still lie to you but with some conversation you can weed out many of them. Keep your prices up to weed out resellers. We also check their addresses with google maps to see for ourselves where the pups are going and if it fits the descriptions we are given. Hope that helps. Great question!

    Hello i am one of your subscribers from Australia. How do you handle heat cycles before the dog is old enough to breed? And how do i prevent them from getting ill before they are old enough? Cheers :)

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! You have to physically separate the male from the females during heat until the females are old enough to breed. The males are the ones hard to control, not the females. We did a video about this. Here’s a link to it:

    What's the average amount of puppies that labs have each litter? and when do you retire your dogs?

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Average litter for Labs is 8 Puppies. When do you retire your dogs? That’s a conversation will have an upcoming Q&A video. Thanks for watching!

    My question is should I use AKC's limited registration for my pup's and do you use AKC's limited registration for your pup's?

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Limited registration contains no breeding rights. You will not be able to register the pups of a dog with the AKC, that has been registered with limited AKC registration. Full AKC registration means that you can register the pups with the AKC assuming both Dam and Sire are AKC dogs. The breeder that sold you the dog will usually charge a little extra for this. Understanding the difference tells you which one is appropriate for you.

    Do you get out of a pet only neuter by 28 months, No papers to off springs by AKC contract by offering more money. We have got a beautiful jpuppy and in 2 years we might want to let have 1 litter.

      I would take her to the vet for an exam and some conversation about the specifics of her situation. Line breeding increases the chances for unwanted genetic traits to surface.

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Look at the parents. If the parent dogs have a trait you like, the puppies will probably have it too. Select your breeding stock this way.

    I 'm from India & have a beagle bitch which will be 3 years in a week's time. She has come into her heat cycle routinely but becoz she was slightly overweight I didn't get her mated. Will there be any complications for her??

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would take her in to the Veterinarian for a wellness visit and get their opinion. She may need to go an a diet first or she may be just fine. Great question!

    • @must_love_labs

      We don’t use the AKC market so I really can’t give you any advice on how that works. We use puppyfind.com and Facebook. For specifics on how that goes I recommend you watch my video on marketing Puppies!

    Why would anyone want to inbred their dog? Inbreeding is bad for people. Nothing wrong keep a puppy. But you have to buy another dog from a different litter.

    Everyone says to skip the first heat, but wouldn't the same reasons not to skip heats be also relevant? The uterus would still be damaged from not being able to shed the lining during whelping. And, if breeding every heat is what is natural to them, it seems to me the same would apply to the first heat as well, or their body wouldn't have began the process. Do we observe wolves, dingos, and other canids skipping the first one? Seems like their uterus would only be become vulnerable from the start as a result of skipping.

    I have German shorthairs, but when we had our first litters (I have sisters). They never lost their coats. I started supplementing milk at 3-4 weeks to give the girls some support. I also feed high quality kibble and cook them food in addition. I planned to do one breeding per year until I listen to this video.

    Thank you for the answers.didn’t know about the flushing. I was under the impression that it’s not good to breed often. Was thinking every two years. I will follow your advice going forward and checking with my vet. I did just breed her and waiting to find out if it was successful. Thank you again.

    We are beginning our breeding program with goldens and have 2 females. My husband and I can't decide if it's better to get our own male or go with a stud to start off. What do you suggest to get going?

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If your females are 2 years old and ready to breed you can find a quality stud to get things going. Either thru natural breeding or using a vet that is familiar with artificial insemination (AI) and having sperm shipped in. Your vet can go over the process with you. Many people choose not to deal with a resident stud dog at all and always outsource that. 10% of the expected gross revenue is a reasonable stud fee. It comes to personal preference really.
      I like having my own male on site. He’s my friend, farm dog, captain of the guard and my females like having him around. We have plenty of space for him so he’s not taking up a slot a female could fill in a kennel.
      Things get difficult when one of the girls is in heat but we don’t want her to breed for whatever reasons. A male will think of nothing else until her peak time passes and her scent changes. You will have to physically separate them with bars or walls. Lol
      I suggest you watch my video on starting a breeding program. th-cam.com/video/7L1GkUswxUk/w-d-xo.html

    • @must_love_labs
      @must_love_labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Speak with your vet about AI. Artificial insemination. Some breeders only do it this way for safety and health concerns. It’s inexpensive and reliable. 👍

    I may have missed it but did you say how many times you hope to breed a female? I understand that 8 years old is the approximate age limit for breeding a Lab and you can start breeding around 2 years of age, so does that mean around 8-10 litters if you skip a cycle every time the dog needs a break?

    Darwins natural pet food has drastically improved my dogs health. I even fed to the puppies when the time came. I had to cook it a tiny bit till 16 weeks but they love it!
