WORD CRAWL WRITING VLOG | hopping spots every 1K words written!

  • After experimenting to see WHERE I'm most productive last week, I decided it was time to combine ALL THE OPTIONS and attempt a word crawl. The plan: hop locations every 1,000 words written. The result??? Chaos.
☟↓ QUESTIONS FOR YOU BELOOOOOW! ↓☟
    D I S C U S S I O N Q U E S T I O N S :
Have you done an online word crawl? (Like during NaNoWriMo or a livestream hopping event like those hosted by the ‪@StorytellersHearth‬) Have you ever done a physical word crawl?? Hopped between libraries or cafes until you hit a certain word count? IF you haven't, would you ever want to?
Where's your favorite place (outside your home) to write??

OMG. I cannot believe I didn't realize that it was HER bookshop. I saw your comment and RAN to my computer to look it up. I read (AND ADORED) Furiously Happy, but just assumed she'd recently stopped by and so they had lots of signed copies left. I CANNOT BELIEVE IT'S HER BOOKSHOP. I'm sure there's a sign somewhere that I missed bahaha. But this just makes even more sense why it's so great!

Ah youth! 😄😄I love the idea of changing locations, but at my age, that means changing chairs or rooms. LOL Leaving the house means being parted from my canines, and the best part of being retired from the day job is hanging out with the puppers. I enjoyed the video so much!! and 4,000 words???? Holy mackerel, you should do this 3 times a week! 💖💖💖

"Zoned way out" is the phrase that came to mind with your every 1000th word.
I usually don't set a word goal for when I move but I do usually move around a bit when I am writing out at the library. Go get coffee or a snack when I am tired or hungry, sit down in one of the nearby cafes for a bit. Go look around at the books before finding a new spot to write.
Also these videos give me life and joy just feel so much better after watching Kate's videos.

That was fun! I have 2 novels on the go. For editing novel 1 I work downstairs, and when I'm working on novel 2 I work upstairs. It helps me get in the right headspace, and like you said, refreshes things for me. It's a nice reset.

I love going to starbucks to write. I feel as if there's an understanding to bring a computer/tablet to write and not be judged as a hipster. Plus it's like not even ten minutes away from my place.
This definitely inspired me to try a writing hop the next time I've got a chance to try it out!

Changing locations do sound fun, for me it would mean writing in the car while waiting for my kids a few times a day, but I think it would be fun, but it means I do really need to accumulate all my notes (and extras as I do) on a single notebook because right now I have notes on a small notebook, index cards and a big notebook

Creative way to make the writing process more fun and energetic. Changing every 1k word would totally mess me up though. Once I get so far in, movement would throw off my flow. I would love to write somewhere besides my desk or bed though. I've always wanted to write at the library or cafe.

I started drafting an Age Gap romance in September/October and I'm finally getting to act 3. I stopped drafting for Nano and pregnancy brain kicked in in January and to relieve some self imposed pressure, I made it my solo project for February. I've also edited as I've gone since I've been a headlights writer for this one, and that's new.
I like the 3 act structure because I can think in 3s better than 5s for pacing. Oddly though, I do a 5 act structure for my overall series arcs.
The flu going around this year is a wopper, and it's not covered in the flu shot.

I used to have do an outside of the house writing session once a week, and it was almost alway productive. I haven't found a spot since we moved. Most places around me are extremely crowded or have the music at such a high volume it's distracting.
Sometimes it's nice to just get out and see something different.

Not to mention, my youngest is going to be attending school next year! I'm excited to be able to write in different locations, maybe even film and get back into TH-cam. I just started selling art prints, which is a whole new experience, so one thing at a time! When the kiddos are in school, it will be nice to write without interruption.

Question for you though: have you thought about doing a video where you write real time and explain your thoughts while you plot/write? Maybe not a real scene but as an experiment. I think it would be helpful to see the real process of each scene. Anyways, thanks for another great video!

BIG QUESTION: Seeing the snip it of your scrivener you only have the manuscript on there from what I’m seeing. When you brainstorm ideas, plots, characters and etc where do you put them so it’s not interfering with your manuscript?

    • @KateCavanaugh
      @KateCavanaugh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, I have them in the "Notes" or "Research" sections usually. That way the words don't count toward the manuscript and they're tucked aside. When you open Scrivener, they have the options for templates already formed, and I think all of the Fiction ones have these extra sections already added.
