- nshoremove.com/ I love seeing the "inside" of things so it was a rare treat to view the workings of one of the busiest bridges on the East Coast. And it's right here in Gloucester MA. We call it "the Cut Bridge" but on the charts, it's know as "the Blynman Bridge".

My uncle Ed Levie was the bridgetender here for many years. He even once let me open the bridge when I was a kid...
Just visited Gloucester for the first time in September, 2013. I didn't see it open, but heard that it is a very busy bridge. This is a great insider edition!
i'm local, living in Chelsea, which has the brand new Lift Bridge to let tankers and barges through. it is amazing to watch it go up and down, and just as amazing to watch these huge behemouths go through the bridge channel. i mentioned to someone how lucky that you got to go inside and the captain's comment about times per day. i was told that some bridges let a bit of traffic build up before lifting the drawbridge. i wonder if this bridge does the same - with 200 per day in the summer - whew!
Yea the chelsea creek bridge.. The original bridge there was stuck in the up postion for years
I used to be a tender on this bridge in the mid 1990's to early 2000's. I operated the Kernwood in Berverly too
Went their today awesome town..my wife was just saying this has to be the the busiest drawbridge in the east coast..she wasn't too far off
i also came to photograph the Fishbox Derby this year, and it was great fun! it is a beautiful area. hoping to vists Gloucester again soon! you have a great channel, btw - a mix of real estate with "local scene" or 'cultural' videos. i can get on board with that kind of mix!
What are the requirements for that job?
Not sure how it's done now but "the tending" used to be handled by a contractor. So you probably have to know someone.
