Freddie Arnish would have loved this. The first time I met Freddie was when a friend of mine arranged to go meet him at the Hub this was sometime back in the early to mid-70s. Of course, he played it for us, and he allowed both of us to play it, too. It was the beginning of a long and highly-valued friendship with Freddie. Last time I saw him, we sat together on an organ bench at Steinway of Chicago in Downer's Grove to hear Frank Pellico. Freddie died about a week later. RIP, old friend!
cobraglen, Could you post any of the Elm organ that you have? Paul or Tony... I was a rink rat there, for most of my youth. It would mean a lot to myself and a lot of others...
Never really cared for Freddy’s style. It was kind of choppy staccato type of playing. Not smooth like Leon Berry At all. Leon was responsible for adding the four additional ranks onto the original eight ranks. He spent many hours in the chamber after hours, tweaking certain ranks of pipes. A golden era of rollerskating, and the theater pipe organs that made it fun.
What an absolute treasure!
I skated there in the late sixties and early seventies when I was a kid. Loved it
