Here in the north we call this "creamed potatoes" and has been a staple in my family for decades.
I think this was a wonderful recipe that so many people enjoyed because it was such cheap, dating back many generations ago. Im learning it also has many names 😊 Many thanks for watching and sharing 🥰🤗
In the South Creamed Potatoes and Mashed Potatoes are interchangeable terms. They are the same!! Stewed Potatoes are sometimes referred to as Thickening Potatoes by some old timers
I never had those. My Grandmother made Scalloped potatoes or Au Gratin, but these are something new to me. I grew up in the Great Lakes area, where did you live if I may ask?
Mom. With peas
I grew up near Charleston, SC but have been near Greenville SC for 20 years 😊
My mom made these and I swear it’s the one dish I miss the most since losing her to colon cancer in 2004. I loved these so much.
Aww, I’m so very sorry you lost your mom! When you are missing her the most maybe you can make you a bowl and just feel her love🥰 Thank you for watching and sharing…big hugs 🤗🥰
You clearly are an expert.😊. Thanks for teaching us.
No expert here lol but I don’t mind sharing at all…thank you for watching 🥰🤗
We were a family of 6. My mom was born and raised in Tennessee. My mom just cooked the potatoes with onions, she did not add milk or flour. When that was all we had for dinner she would cut up a couple of hot dogs in with the potatoes. I’m going to make this soon. Very excited to have this recipe. I am close to 80 years old. Thank you so much. 😊
You are very welcome, I’m so glad it brought back a precious memory for you! I’ve also had them without milk when we didn’t have any, the starch water does thicken them, I’ve also had them in a little chicken broth, simple goodness. I am also from a family of 6 and honey I get it, we had some creative meals, but momma made everything taste good and we had no clue we didn’t have much because what we didn’t have on a plate she made up for with love, wonderful memories, bless you for watching and sharing 🥰🤗
This is how my mom made them also! Lots of onions and cut up hot dogs in it!
@@Jomama02 so good 🥰
I have loved stewed potatoes all my life. My favorite meal I'd meat lloaf with tomato sauce, stewed potatoes, and fried cabbage.
Listen, you know what some good eating is! These taters are delicious hanging out with some meatloaf! I would take meatloaf over a steak almost any day with some fried cabbage ohhhh weee , sooooo good!! I think I’ll be having some meatloaf and cabbage very soon beside these potatoes thank you for watching and dropping this goodness 😀🥰
OOOOOH YES! CABBAGE ROLLS 2!
Well, I’m not southern and your recipe doesn’t in anyway remind me of momma’s cooking. We also love our potatoes here in the Pacific Northwest. I always try to prepare home cooked tasty meals for my family. Your video interests me for two reasons - it looks tasty AND SIMPLE. It’s the simple that really caught my attention. Can’t wait to give it a try. Thank you!
Well big hugs from South Carolina 🤗 I absolutely love seeing where everyone is from and what they eat in their region so thank you very much! I honestly started this channel for 2 reasons, the first being my husband pressured me for quite awhile and I finally caved to prove to him no one would watch lol 😂 and the second reason was because cooking has become a dying art and I want my grandchildren to be able to look back and remember the things Gigi made, but I really enjoy making it simple for the ones that are learning to cook and this little recipe is so simple, yet so tasty! I hope you give it a try and will let me know how you like it. It’s really a base you can add all kind of things, a bit of bacon grease, or bacon and cheese, the possibilities are endless. Once again many thanks 🙏 🥰
It’s no dying art any longer with the Internet.@@Rhondascountrykitchen
Bless you friend 🥰
My great grandmother used to make these and I never knew how. Thank you
Oh honey you are welcome, I sure hope you enjoy them and will think of your grandma every time you make them 🥰 This makes me so happy thank you 🥰🤗
These look wonderful! My grandmother made these, but called them creamed potatoes. In the springtime when she had fresh garden peas, she added those. Your recipes always bring back precious memories--Thank you!
THIS 👆is the biggest compliment you could have given me 🥰 I love that this recipe sparked so many wonderful memories for an abundance of people, it’s exactly what I hope for! I know I make all types of food but to hear this is what my grandma made just thrills my soul because I want everyone to enjoy those good ol’recipes we grew up on and fed our babies and grandbabies! My hopes are that my grandchildren will say, “Oh honey this was Gigi’s recipe,” and will keep sharing it! Thank you so much for your sweet comments, my heart is full 🥰🤗
Oh lordy, my mama used to make that out of the garden. She used whole small potatoes, peas, and onions. I miss mama's kitchen.
Same here. I grew up with creamed potatoes and peas, yummm!❤❤❤
@@BrendaCampbellThe-Lupus-Effect The video threw such a craving on me, I had to make some today. Wish I'd had some fresh from the garden instead of fresh from Publix frozen foods.
Those new potatoes really do hit different 😊 sooooo good 🙌
I'm as southern as you get but somehow never made this! Making it now! Thank you, I couldn't sub fast enough. Lord bless and keep you ❤🙏
Aww bless you! This dish was really popular during the Great Depression, I’d love to know how far this recipe dates back, apparently it’s called something different all over the world but we can certainly all agree it is delicious and frugal. I’m so glad you stumbled upon my channel, big welcome to you honey, many thanks for watching 🥰🤗
One of my most favorite things that momma made. We called em “Soupy Potatahs”. Mmmm. Mmmmm. Sooooo good! With fried salmon patties and fried corn bread pole beans and a big ole slice of home grown tomater!! Heaven on a plate.
Now you know whats up…that’s a great supper right there, down to the sliced mater…HEAVEN INDEED! I’ve noticed everyone from NC calls this soupy potatoes, is that where you’re from? Many thanks for watching and sharing…love it 🥰🤗
My mom, a southern bell, often calls them ‘soupy and lumpy potatoes’. She relished when her mom use to make them.
Food has such a way with bringing up the best memories and mom’s food often holds a special place in our hearts 💕 Thank you for sharing and watching 🥰🤗

Yes mama! North Carolina born and bred.

Lovely sharing always very unique recipes of cooking
Thank you friend, ya can’t go wrong with some taters…sooo good 🙌🥰
Thank you, I was raised poor and from the North in PA, they were a staple, but never had this. I am going to try this.
Me too, my momma could sure stretch a dollar and we had simple but delicious meals, we were certainly blessed this way! We had rice, potatoes and noodles in every way possible, but didn’t miss a meal 🥰🤗
I've never heard of Stewed Potatoes, and I'm a Virginia girl! They look terrific. Thanks for sharing!!
Honey get you some stewed taters going 😂 you won’t regret it! Thank you so much for watching and commenting, I sure do love seeing where everyone is from, it just warms my heart! Keep me posted if ya try them 🤗🥰
Oh my goodness this video got me in the feels. My sweet Mom would make this When we had a left over ham bone. I have had this in many years. My Mom could make the grocery budget stretch with the best meals ever.
Doesn’t this recipe just feel like home? We didn’t have much but like yours, my sweet momma saved everything and stretched a dollar, we used to say she would hold a dollar so tight George would squeal 🤣😂 but having 4 kids to feed changes things a bit, but we had simple, but the most delicious meals, if we had ham that would be several meals and the ham bone was a bonus, it was going in beans or something lol! I’m so glad you found my video and happy that it was a precious memory for you 🥰
@@Rhondascountrykitchen I swear you described my mom to a T . Family of 6 and she could stretch a dollar. We didn’t have much but we always had a good meal.
Sounds like we were blessed with some precious mommas 🥰 lucky indeed!!!
I'm a native Texan but my parents were from Oklahoma. My Mom always prepared these potatoes as a delicious side for salmon patties. When I was little girl Mom would also tear a slice of bread into small bites and cover them with some of the gravy. I loved those gravy bites!!!! I also loved the potatoes and gravy spooned over my salmon (after it was drenched in pepper sauce, of course.) We are senior citizens now and I still prepare this for my family. It is one of our favorite meals!!!! Thank you for sharing your recipe and bringing me many wonderful memories!!!! 😊
This sure made me smile!!! We had salmon patties a lot growing up as well, we ate them with grits too, it was a super cheap meal, now canned salmon is not so frugal anymore, but is still a favorite 🙌 Have you ever had catfish patties? My kids loved them growing up as well. Catfish is pretty plentiful near us and the texture is comparable to a crab cake which really excited me lol! Thank you so much for watching and sharing a precious memory 🤗🥰
,,,These were served in the lunch room in elementary school. They called the slurry, "white sauce". Then added fresh parsley, finely chopped. These were called creamed potatoes., where I grew up in Florida. Mama made them for me after I told here what they were like. I really liked hers better, of course. Will have to cook these for my granddaughters.
They probably served them because they were so easy to make 😊 I’m sure the missing ingredient was mommas love. I hope you and your granddaughters will enjoy them and I’m sure they will think yours is the absolute best. They are really good with some add ons like a little bacon or cheese, but fabulous by themselves. Thank you for watching 🤗🥰
Growing up in Eastern KY it was a treat to dig up some new potatoes and boil them whole to make gravy just like this on them. If you've never had this before you really should try it because it tastes different than you might imagine. Nothing else I've made using potatoes has quite this type of flavor. It's delicate and somewhat earthy and brings forth an aspect of the veg that you need to experience to understand what I mean. I've never used mature potatoes to make it and would suggest it using petites or fingerlings if you don't have access to fresh young ones from the garden. Thank you for your vid. Comfort food, indeed! :-)
You are absolutely correct, new potatoes are so good, I say they just hit different lol! I did want to show that it can still be delicious using potatoes that are readily available for most, so russets it was lol! You’re right though, if you make it with new potatoes that’s how you will want them. Thank you so much and hello from SC 👋🤗🥰
I've been making this since heck was a pup. It's a staple with ham or meatloaf. When I was a kid, I saved my cornbread, and poured that gravy over it for 'dessert'.
Yesssss ma’am now you know what good eating is all about! It really is good beside anything or it can just stand alone, ya can’t go wrong with some taters in gravy 😂🥰
Remember this dish from childhood. Going to try it! New subscriber.

Looks good yall GO TIGERS 🐅!!
Thank you so much and yes sir, GO TIGERS!!! 🐅 🏈 🙌🥰
My folks used to make this with baby red potatoes. So good.
Ohhh yes they are phenomena With the skins on and all, especially the smaller round ones straight from the garden, that you don’t have to cut 🙌🥰
This is new for me as well. Opens up a lot of ideas for recipes
It sure does, there are so many variations to good meals starting with this base, I hope you enjoy it as we do, big thanks for watching 🥰🤗

Thank you so much friend, I hope ya’ll do as well 🤗🥰
My mom used to make these with rice and polish sausage, with biscuits and a few over-medium fried eggs. She called it breakfast for dinner and we loved it. For some reason, she never cooked it for breakfast.
That sounds delicious, we love breakfast for supper too…love it..precious memories 🥰🤗

We called this potato soup. My grandma is Finnish. Sometimes we would put some cheese on top,but usually just potatoes, onions and milk.
It’s so good with cheese and onions, although we call that potato soup in our parts. I love reading what everyone calls this recipe where they are from it has been very interesting, thank you for sharing 🥰🤗
Your voice and accent is so soothing! Thank you for sharing. I’ve never heard of stewed potatoes but will be making it tonight. :)
Oh bless you, you are too kind! 🥰 I hope you made them and everybody licked their plates lol 😂 Let me know if you liked them , thank you so much for watching 🥰🤗
Yum! I’m with you, potatoes and bread and butter
Honey ya can’t go wrong , a piece of bread or a tater has never made me sad 😂😂 🥰🤗
Boy, this brought back a memory. My grandma made these a couple of times when I was a kid, and my 4 year old brain truly thought it was potato soup. She said her mom often made it, and my grandpa said his parents did too (her mom was born in 1892. His parents were 1902/1904) so this is a very old recipe.
It’s a treasured family recipe that has stood the test of time for so many generations! Theres many ways you can “doctor’ it up but boy does it taste delicious just like this 🙌 I wanted the simplicity to shine through. This is for all of us that grew up with little, and still ate like a king 😊I’m glad it brought back a wonderful memory for you, thank you so much for sharing, this makes me happy 🥰🤗

Peas are a great addition to these potatoes, the little touch of sweetness with the savory makes for a great combination! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching 🥰🤗

I absolutely love this comment 🥰 honestly, I never knew my grandparents on either side, but I’ve heard such wonderful stories of how great they could cook. I have to give all my credit to my sweet little momna, who took the time with us girls to ensure we would know exactly how to raise our family and feed them well. We were under her coat tail as little girls, and she would give us all little things to do in the kitchen, and I was the designated peeler and cutter 🤣😂 I do cherish those times with her and Still to this day. I love cooking in the kitchen with my mom. Thank you so much for watching and for your sweet words🥰🤗
I'm definitely going to try this out.
It looks really yummy.
I cook a chunk of brisket in the crockpot with a packet of Lipton beefy onion soup mix & a bit of water. Afterwards once in the fridge the good fat hardens on top & I collect it to freeze.
I bet that fat would be good in this & even better it would work with leftover shredded brisket too. I often have some I freeze for later too.
Oh I’ll bet that would be delicious 🙌 This is a good base for almost any add ins, meat, veggies and of course cheese! I’ll tell ya this too it can be a pretty good base for pot pie too you can add chicken or beef with veggies and put it in a crust…delicious 😋 Thanks for the idea 💡…I love the feedback 🥰🤗
OMG! I forgot all about these. My grandma used to make these all the time when I was knee high to a grasshopper; 56 years old now. Guess what’s on the menu this week for me and my wife? C’mon, guess. 🤤
Ummmm 🤔🧐 TATERS ????? 😂 I hope y’all enjoy them so much ya lick the plate, and it brings back wonderful memories! Make grandma proud 🤗🥰
I put cooked sausage ground up a hand ful of bacon bits and cream of mushroom in mine. Next level.

Wow where I come from this is called potatoe soup lol never heard of stewed potatoes but I’m gonna try
It’s so good, I hope you give it a try 😊I have my moms potato soup video and the difference for us is we add onions and bacon and cheese in potato soup but with the stewed potatoes it’s just the simplicity of butter, flour and milk, its the gravy 🙌😊I always say ya can’t go wrong with some potatoes and gravy lol! My mamma and grandma used to make stewed potatoes frequently, the best ones were made with the lard the made ftom the hogs they raised.

Wow, wow, wow! That is some good stewed potatoes right there. My granny used to make the best. We called them creamed potatoes. I always have a hard time with them. You did them perfect. Just as an fyi, you can let the starch water sit so that the starch goes to the bottom and then drain most of the clear (not starch) water. Then you can let it evaporate, and you have homemade vege starch for thickening. It's easier than it sounds.
I know exactly what you’re talking about, you are 💯 correct! I basically just washed them in the cold water while I was cutting them so I drained it off, I always use done starch water from pasta too to thicken up pasta dishes, it works great! Thank you for watching 🥰🤗

Except for the Northerners, I just can't believe the number of folks who are discovering this now.
It truly is a classic, but better to have discovered it now rather than later 😀 I always thought it was just a delicious southern dish that we ate because it was frugal but turns out people have been eating this all around the world…I love it! Thank you for watching!! Love the name 😊🥰
I make something similar, but I use a roux. And being from Wisconsin, I add a good helpin' of sharp cheddar cheese! Thank ya'll!😁🧀Edit: and Gigi is my tuxedo cat's name. She's had 3 batches of kittens and it's always 2 tuxedos and one calico.😁
Oh my Lord yes, some cheese in this dish is phenomenal 🙌 I’ve never been to Wisconsin but I have had your cheese and when I say I love me some cheese, I LOVE ME SOME CHEESE 😂😂😂 Thank you for sharing your location I absolutely love seeing where everyone is from, it warms my heart 🥰 Awww sweet Gigi that is awesome and just adorable my daughter would be in heaven 😻🤗
That’s exactly how I make my gravy with new potatoes… not sure what the southerns call it, but I take the little golden potatoes, we call them new potatoes, cook them almost 3/4 almost done, just leave enough water over the potatoes & make my flour paste just like you did & pour over the water & potatoes stir occasionally, allow the gravy to thicken add salt and pepper, ready to serve, with steak, pork chops, ribs good with just about anything…
Those little potatoes are perfect! I do like to show the recipe using what everyone has access to, so russets it was lol! It’s good anyway but I agree the new potatoes are divine 🙌🥰
I've always wondered what stewed potatoes were, since I read about them in What Katy Did. Potatoes in white sauce. Where l live that would be unthinkable, which doesn't mean it's not delicious.
Honey here in the south not much is unthinkable lol! They are extremely delicious with just a kiss of bacon grease too 😀 it takes them to an entirely different level! I know exactly what you’re speaking of I read that book too! Thank you so very much for watching, if you try them let me know how you like them, hugs from South Carolina 🥰🤗
That's probably good served room temp an even cold
Honey it is good any kind of way for sure 😀 it hits ya soul though when it’s warm 🙌🥰
We called this taters and gravy growing up and you can't beat it with fresh new potatoes...
Yes ma’am and you can’t beat taters and gravy with new potatoes, it just taste soooo good! The simple flavors just work to deliver a wonderful dish, thanks for watching 🥰🤗
chicken stock instead of water.. DEFINITELY honna try bacon or smoked sausage. Could probably put chicken or turkey in it
As it is, it's the same elements as mashed potatoes but simpler
It is so good cooked in a stock and almost any kind of meat added is divine, I did want to show the simple way though, with food being outrageous and people having a tight budget, you can still eat good with this dish 😀 Thank you so much for watching and sharing, bacon surely is a must, I also love smoked sausage, it will make ya shout lol 🙌🥰
Make a couple extra biscuits at breakfast to save, then while you're making this break them into pieces and toast them up like croutons and spread them over the top.
Oh my goodness that sounds sooo good, I’ll have to try that. I have added sausage and poured it over a biscuit like a breakfast bowl and that is great too, unless you’re counting carbs lol 😂 I can make a meal out of nothing but these potatoes though, it’s just an ultimate comfort food for me. Thank you so very much for watching 🥰🤗
Wonder what it would be like with Bacon grease gravy???
Oh my word it is phenomenal 🙌 The taters just hit different with some bacon essence lol 😂
In the frig!
My Grandma made these with pearl onions and peas. I loved these as a kid. Brings back memories of Sunday dinners with cream potatoes with pearl onions and peas. That was a long time ago.
And while that is such a simple supper, it was probably one of your favorites and that’s what I love about this dish simple but so delicious! I’m so glad it brought back good memories for you. That makes me smile!!! 🤣🤗

It works great 😊
Grew up in the Midwest. Since I'm Irish AND German, potatoes are my love language. My aunt often made Creamed Potatoes & Peas. These days, after decades, I still make them. It's a simple white sauce and it brings back many happy memories.
I have some Irish in me as well, those potatoes just call out to me, whispering sweet nothings 😂🤣 I absolutely get it!!! I have always love sweet peas with potatoes rather it was mashed potatoes or stewed potatoes. It just goes together like peanut butter and jelly, doesn’t it? I love to make a recipe that just takes me back home, it’s just a comfort to my soul. Many thanks for watching.🥰🤗
Michigan here...yes, creamed potatoes and peas with bread and butter (never had a meal without it)! Tore it up as a kid in the 60's 😋
Love this 🥰
Mine too!! & another commenter said her family added Pearl Onions as well!
This was my Granny's go to. She never used milk or butter. She told me that during the depression, some days it was all she had to feed her family. If she could get a scrap of bacon or ham she would add that, but it was rare. Thank you for sharing.
Aww sweet memories for you 🤗 It always amazes me how such a simple dish can be sooooo good! My mom didn’t use all the new seasoning we have access to today, but her food was and is so good! Maybe it was all that love that was poured into their dishes, appreciate the share 🥰🤗
Did Granny use the cooking water to make the sauce?
Save the water for your plants
@@trudygreer2491 yes, as I recall she did not drain any of the cooking water she just thickened it with a slurry.
Great idea 🥰
Creamed potatoes, my grandma made it with new potatoes from the garden along with baby carrots and new peas. Delicious
Yes ma’am that was the way they were served and it was so good! Simple but delicious!!! Thank you for sharing!!! 🥰🤗
We've always called this creamed potatoes. I first made this dish when I was nine years old, so I can testify to the fact that it is EASY. I can happily have nothing else but a bowl of these potatoes for a delicious meal - it's a meal made in heaven. (I was born in Georgia and have lived here most of my 80+ years.)
That is such a wonderful memory, I remember cooking with momma at a very young age too, some things we just don’t forget 🥰 I lived in Sylvester GA for a few years and people there loved taters all kind of ways 😀 Bless you for sharing, it makes my heart smile…big hugs 🥰🤗
I love stewed potatoes, my mom would make them on Sunday dinners, I'm from Missouri, a farm family we cook just like you Southerners, it's good old country cooking, yummy good! We sometimes put fresh garden peas in thier
Peas is sooooo good with them, the contrast of sweet and savory is divine 🙌 I sure enjoy seeing where everyone is from and what type of food they enjoy in the neck of the woods 😀 I love it that you eat a lot like we do here in the south! Thank you so much for watching 🥰🤗
@@Rhondascountrykitchen aww thank you, I'm currently living at a private lake, lotawana near kc mo I'm 65 it so nice seeing good old family cooking, my mom was half Irish half English, dad was half chipawa american indian, and half Irish I love my potatoes! 👍😊😋 🥔 have a wonderful day! 🫠🥰
You have made my heart smile, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! My hubby begged me for quite awhile to make videos and I always assumed most knew how to cook, I’m learning that a few videos have been helpful, and some recipes have been long forgotten, so if for me no other reason my grandchildren can one day look back and enjoy Gigi’s videos and that it will be worth it! Listen if I have a potato, noodles or bread, I’m gonna be all right lol, I’ve said it before I’m Carbie Barbie 😂😂😂
I am over 50 and thought I knew and loved all the ways of the potato. So excited by this!
I have been absolutely thrilled with sharing this recipe, For the ones that have enjoyed it for many many years and may have forgotten it, but so excited for the ones that have never tried it, honey I hope you love it just like we do and can pass it on to your family for many generations. I sure do appreciate you dropping in and watching if you try, please let me know how you like it!! 🥰🤗
We call it creamed potatoes.
That is what we called them too. My mother’s were delicious.
My mom also lovingly called them that, along with Irish potatoes 😀 We grew up in the Lowcountry, but I’ve been in the Upstate of SC for 20 years and everybody calls them stewed potatoes, so I thought maybe we had just called them something different because we would sometimes do that 😂🤣 Thank you so much for watching and sharing, I sure appreciate it 🥰🤗
My Granny was from Mississippi and called them creamed potatoes. I was so sick when I was pregnant with my first baby that Granny would cook that every day. I could only take about 3 bites but it kept me alive! I still make it as soon as the weather gets cool.
Oh my word yes, this is so good for sickness, momma always gave us potato’s coming off a stomach bug too and it helped us to get our “strength” back 😀 A potato really does just soothe ya soul and momma always seemed to know what to do for us 🥰My sister also had a lot of nausea with pregnancy so I know exactly what you’re talking about🤗 I love your name, big thanks for watching 🥰🤗
My Mom & Dad r gone now but when i was goin through dinner videos & seen ur potatoes & gravy i immediately stopped & told myself oh my gosh Mom use to make them for my Dad all the time! Lol i had forgotten all bout her making them, so thank u for the video u helped me to bring a memory of my Mom to me, i just hope my husband will like them!
Oh honey I wish I could give ya a big hug 🤗 I’m so happy you found my video, sometimes things really do happen for a reason! I hope your hubby enjoys this and while it brings back precious memories I hope it also brings about some new ones for ya’ll. I appreciate you sharing because this blesses my soul 🙏🥰🤗
@@1984MTG I had something my mom loved, and I told my husband it tasted like a memory. 😇😇😇
That’s is absolutely wonderful, anytime ya feeling like ya need a big hug from momma make ya a bowl and enjoy it 🥰🤗
I’m an old man and my momma made these but I never knew how, now I’m going to make them myself, thank you so much.
This is exactly what I love to read, it just warms my heart 🥰, I hope they taste just like you reneged and with just give ya soul a big ol’hug! Thank you for sharing this, love it 🥰🤗
South African here. I've not ever seen this before! I think I'll try this with less salt but a good amount of cheese!
Wow South Africa that is amazing, many thanks to you for dropping in and sharing, it makes me smile 🥰 It is absolutely divine with cheese, it’s so versatile, it’s flavorful to stand alone or to add almost anything in, it comforts my soul. Many thanks for watching hugs from SC 🤗🥰
You're gonna need that salt!❤
Yep salt them taters you won’t regret it 🥰
I'm a salt lover so I'll add salt, but remember that cheese is usually quite salty, too, so you don't want it too salty.
That’s right, cheese ads a little salt, just enough to season the potatoes while simmering and getting happy 😃
Looks delicious but I would put a big old chopped onion too, can't go wrong with onions. Ya makin me hungry damn it.
Mission accomplished lol 😂 I did have some spring onions on my plate it is scrumptious 😋 Thanks so much for watching 🥰🤗
Onions ruin everything
My brother would agree with you lol he hates onions and he can find even the smallest little piece 😂 He loves this recipe it’s safe as he would say!
😮 one pot potatoes & white gravy!?
Omg how did this never cross my mind, thank you!!!
Honey you can’t go wrong with taters and gravy lol! You can keep it simple or toss in some protein and make it a meal! I hope you love it, thank for stopping by and saying hello…happy cooking shuga 🥰🤗
I surely do enjoy stewed potatoes. I have eaten them all my life. Potatoes, a staple in my home growing up. My father gardened, and we had homegrown potatoes. Thanks Ronda for introducing this dish to those who haven’t ever eaten them! ❤️
I absolutely knew you would know all about this dish, Lord knows we have ate some taters in our life, simple little recipe but oh so good 🥰❤️
Rhonda, that’s my dish. My mother fixed them. When I married my mother in law made them. I started making them like her. She boiled a pork chop first then when it got done she put the potatoes in and flour and water slurry. I added chopped onion to mine and butter, salt and pepper. I like lil more pepper in my potatoes, rutabagas and dumplings. Since we live in Arizona my daughter has to bring my flour cornmeal and whatever else I can’t find here. Our brands in South Carolina are not here because they don’t eat what we eat.
@dothatch5147 yesssss ma’am, you know all about that good eatin 😀 I have fixed these taters all kind of ways, but I thought I would show the most simplest way with water, butter and cream, but they are absolutely delicious cooked in a broth and with a little bacon grease 😂 It’s so unfortunate that your region is missing out on all this goodness 🙈 We love our black pepper too, we always sprinkle more on top lol. Rutabagas are probably my second favorite vegetable, behind a tater, not everyone knows about them either, they are missing out! Big hugs from SC friend 🤗🥰
My grandma called them creamed potatoes. They are so yummy!
I am reading this a lot and that makes me happy because this is what we called them, but we also called mashed potatoes creamed potatoes lol so I figured we were provably calling it the wrong name after I was told 20 years ago its called stewed potatoes, nice to know we weren’t wrong it can be calked either, maybe it was called different names in different areas, regardless of where it originated or what the original name was, honey it is good stuff, and grandmas knew what’s up lol 😂Many thanks for watching, I certainly appreciate it 🥰
I just randomly saw ur stewed potatoes and checked out your channel. I just subscribed and I’m looking forward to seeing your recipes. I’ll binge watch your channel the next few days on your old recipes posted. Lol. All looks good. I’ll definitely try those potatoes!
Ohhhh honey, big welcome to you, come on in, pull ya shoes off and get comfortable 🤗😂 Bless you, thank you so much for watching, subscribing and most of all letting me know, it just warms my heart! I hope you love these potatoes like we do, it’s simple but it will hit ya soul if ya looking for a delicious comfort food or side! I can make a meal out of just these potatoes, a dash of bacon grease takes it to a new level🙌! Once again thank you so much 🥰🤗
When I was a kid my mom called these creamed potatoes (but there was no cream) and sometimes she'd have me go out and rob a few little potatoes from the potato plants in the garden and she'd cook those with the skins on. They were about the size of a big marble up to a ping-pong ball. She didn't cut those up.
I like using the small ones and sometimes just keep the skin on, so good 😋 My mom always said creamed potatoes too 🥰 I’m finding that people called it different things in different areas, but everybody agrees it a delicious recipe 😋 many thanks for watching and commenting, I love it, this recipe seems to bring back fond memories 🥰🤗
I have been eating this since I was just little. It's almost the only way my grandmother would cook potatoes. The problem is, I never knew what it was or how she made it. She always put and onion or two in with her potatoes to boil. I have loved it all my life. After she passed away, I missed her so much and I missed these potatoes. I can remember sitting on the top shelf of a bookcase that my grandfather pulled up to the table, because I was too small to reach the table top. Anyway I found these here on you tube awhile ago and I was so happy that I did, it brought so much back. I am Canadian I have never been out side of Canada nor had my grandmother.
That is absolutely awesome , what sweet memories 🥰 We cook these all types of way with onion and with a little bacon grease and it’s delicious all kind of ways 🙌 I thought I’d share the basics for the ones that have never had it 😊 Thank you so much for sharing and watching, it’s amazing how a taste of food can take you right down memory lane, I did have the honor of knowing my grandparents they had all passed away but I cherish our family memories and recipes. Big hugs from South Carolina 🤗🥰
My mom made something similar with new potatoes and fresh peas from the garden. The ultimate comfort food for me.
It truly is such a comfort food! Peas pairs so well with them you are absolutely 💯 right, the sweet with the savory, so good! Thank you so much for watching 🥰🤗
I always called them creamed potatoes.😊
My mom did too 😉 I’m hearing this a lot so at first when I was told it’s stewed potatoes I just assumed we were calling it the wrong name, but now I’m thinking Ah ha, we weren’t wrong 😂😂 We can call them whatever we want to I guess but we are the winners because they are delicious🙌 Many thanks for sharing 🥰
I am making a pickled pot roast Thursday night for dinner and I think I just found our potato side. Thank you.
Yessss 🙌 this is a perfect side, I hope you enjoy it, let me know if you do 🥰🤗
@@mistythompson1398 if you don’t mind my asking, what is pickled pot roast? I’ve never heard of that before.
@@janapinson8665 Sorry that is a bit of typo, it is pickle pot roast. and recipe from a food blogger named Tipsy House Wife. It is similar to the Mississippi Pot Roast but uses pickles instead of the spicier peppers.
@mistythompson1398 I actually had to Google it and seen that recipe, I love Mississippi pot roast but I’ll bet that pickle juice really tenderizes that meat making it delicious… I’m definitely going to try it. Thanks for sharing that. 🥰🤗
@@mistythompson1398 ohh ok! That’s good to know! Thanks!
I've been searching for a recipe like this for a long time. Looks delicious!
I’m so glad you found it 🥰 I hope you will love it as we do. It’s so easy to make and will make any dish shine as a side. Thank you so very much for watching 🤗😊
OHHHH I have been looking for recipe for Irish potatoes. That's what my Momine called them. Good grief.....it's called stewed potatoes! Well...now I know. And if not from the thumbnail I wouldn't have watched. Glad I did!!
That is hilarious because my mom called potatoes in general Irish potatoes too 😂😂😂 Ican’t wait to see what my kids tell on me, I’m sure they will have a lot of choices lol! I’m glad you found it because honey this is a good one, so simple but so good! I hope you try it and it brings back wonderful memories 🥰🤗
Love it with sweet peas too
Me too
Oh my goodness so do I, that little bit of sweetness goes hand in hand with these potatoes 🙌🥰
@@Rhondascountrykitchen it does! Makes great creamed potatoes even better!!❤️
Whew Lawdy yessss 🙌😀
Outstanding cooking Rhonda!!
Isn’t it the simplest recipes that are just so good, it just hits your soul, thank you so much 🥰❤️
In Louisiana we had these often made just like this when I was growing up. Now after I had my family I have learned that some garlic and sour cream add a lot to the dish. I’m 82 now and have eaten a ton of these during my life.
Absolutely!!! I love that it’s so versatile, it’s great with any addition or it’s fabulous alone, it just hits your soul 😉 I am reading where everyone is from and am realizing how many people have enjoyed this dish over the years, no matter where they are located! Many thanks for sharing and commenting, I sure do appreciate it, big hugs 🤗 🥰
Made this tonight with red potatoes that I left the skin on per another viewer's suggestion, and added about a tablespoon of Bacon Up. The quickest prep ever, and totally delicious eating😋 I might have leftovers for breakfast with a sausage patty😊 winner ,winner, breakfast and dinner😁
Woohoo!!! I’m so glad you liked them and a big thank you for the feedback, I love getting feedback, it just makes my heart smile 🥰🤗
