I think you can use mild steel or without hardening, if you want to make many and fast, but if you want good quality arrowheads, that don't bend at each shoot, it's better to harden them and use proper steel. I do so
@@-GyBer-Thanks for your reply. I would be nice if you show this hardening procedure in your video, because hardening of thin metal is not easy ad far as I know.
@@PermireFabrica I was hardening only point of arrowhead that isn't very thin, just heating point with blowtorch until it's not magnetic anymore and quench in water or oil, for arrowhead it doesn't make big difference. After that i tempered them, again with blowtorch heating up middle part until point gets blue color
hi Permire Fabrica, I use traditional technology that is not in the video. It is carburization in a mixture of coal. The tips are then flexible inside and hard on the surface.( sorry for using google translate).
Have a design of some arrowheads. Can you reproduce? They are the ones pictured on the front of the book Agincourt by Bernard Cornwell. I want 6, to fit 1/2’ shafts. Have tried emailing but address is not recognised.
Hi there. There is no problem at all. If you happy to send me all those details to my email address which is michalfranko55@gmail.com . I will have a look and I'll let you know ;)
@@michalfranko4389 How do you wrap them so nicely? The socket for shaft looks almost like it was welded or turned on lathe.Do you flaten it to 1mm thick/5° taper? I tried to make couple of arrows myself but socket never looks as nice ,there is a hole in the middle.
I've been struggling with the sockets on arrowheads. This might help me out. Great video. Also, those gloves make me all kinds of uncomfortable XD
Perfect video, MILD BACKGROUND MUSIC, and the sweet sound of steel.
Master black Smith well done👍 Sir!
Your arrow heads will KEEL.
Nice work sir loved it❤️❤️❤️😍
I imagine that those was pretty expensive back then.
A arte do ferreiro quase instinta ,mas que ainda encanta e renasce conforta total .
Very good your work. Next video show us the work of a bow, if possible. Hugs from Brazil.
What steel would you suggest for someone starting out? I mean budget friendly haha, and the bick? Would you perhaps suggest a punch/center punch??
Mild steel quenched in water is fine. Also, Look into case hardening with clay, might interest you.

Thanks for the video! Just made my first arrowhead. Do you have to heat it up again and quench it after grinding it?
Yes recommend it to harden it.
Your bow style shooting why do you learn forward like you do and bended knee shooting your arrows ? , very unusual for shooting arrows .

How many of these can you reasonably make in an hour?
Na idade média os ferreiros eram muito requisitados......
The target is it steel?
I saw one of the arrows goes through?!!
Is that possible?
Hi Jo Se,
Yes, it is a 1.7 mm thick steel sheet. However, it is not hardened steel.
Where can I get an anvil like that. The horn is so useful being that small.
César Aguilar, Jr. you can make your own.
What is that big disc you use as anvil?
Right? I am very much in the market. And that needle horn mini anvil in the vise. Very cool gear.

How to make uniform arrow points by hammering?
try using the same ammount of blows on each side, if you can try to invest in a grinder/ files to touch it up after you finish forging

Just send me an email: michalfrankoarrowsmith@gmail.com
You forgot a step , most people do when making the socket ,if you flatten and square it up.at the same time you don't have to grind the end
