    Do you have a video to illustrate the different steady-states in the Duffing oscillator that occur in the forward and backward sweeping? A video like this speaks more than a drawing.

    Thanks for your comments. Have not tried horizontal forcing. The two beams are expected to respond in phase. There is a possibility (in vacuum for example) that the two beams can respond in opposite phase, running into each other. Vertical forcing is also know as parametric forcing. You may find my Faraday Waves video of interest.
