I have been using the Palomar knot for 20 years. Never breaks at the knot, never comes undone, always trusty. Also super duper easy to tie compared to the other knots. Quick setup to get back to fishin.
I just switched to Palomar knot a few months ago when I compared it to the usual clinch knot I tie. The Palomar knot didn't break as easily, guessing any knot that wraps around the hole twice is stronger than any knot that only wrap the hook once. Especially with small trout tackle, the hooks are so thin I think they just cut/pop the line with enough pressure......or that's my theory at least 😅
The Palomar knot has been my go to knot for many years now. It's really simple to learn, very quick to tie and extremely strong. There's a bunch of TH-cam tutorials on how to tie it as well. Really enjoyed the video too. Take care and fish on.😊
Hello Ladies. I've had good success using chicken breast for catfish. It's actually cheaper than night crawlers. I cut it into quarter or half dollar size pieces for bull head catfish. As far as knots, I've had good success with the Clinch knot, and for the circle hooks,I use a snell knot. For removing the deep hooks, slide your hook remover down the hook shank till it hits the bend. Then twist as you continue to push. Thanks for sharing your fishing time, Ladies. Keep those lines tight. 🎣
I use bait when I’m intending on harvesting the fish for a meal because they have a tendency to inhale the bait and get gut hooked. I use artificial lures when catching and releasing because they don’t generally swallow soft plastics or hard baits like cranks, spinners and jigs. Good video and keep it up!
I love the color and clarity of the water. Knot-wise, I tend to use the improved clinch knot most of the time. The snell knot is also a good knot and fairly easy to tie. There is also a way to tie it where you make an "egg" loop. Steelheaders will use when they are fishing egg clusters to help secure it to the hook. It might be an option when fishing with shrimp.
Depending on some hooks size can help by just using your finger. Follow the line down even if it's down his throat. They swallow large meals at times so it will not hurt them. try put barb on nail side, string on fingerprint side and once the hook moves down the hook will rest on the nail not allowing to re hook as you remove it. Lots of tools and videos out there.
Get a couple of thermacells, one for each of you. Its way better than spraying bug repellent on your skin, it's just not good for your skin. Try garlic and salt, or strawberry jello on the shrimp. It actually works great. Just put the shrimp in a zip lock, and season pretty heavily with either, or both. As far as getting a hook out that was swallowed, you did the right thing. The hook will rust out quickly, and won't stop the fish from eating. I actually love the fishing videos, and I'm happy to see the younger people enjoying something I've loved since I was a kid. Keep up the good videos
Hey, you should come to Massachusetts so I can show you some really good fishing spots! Super impressed you and your sister is so down to fish without worrying about getting your hands dirty, wish more girls got into fishing
If you are not going to keep the fish then You can always pick up barbless hooks, or take some pliers, mash down the barbs on your existing hooks, or take a file and file the barbs down.
lol next time u go fishing ur going to have the best of luck im sure of it! And I caught the catfish on kool aid chicken if u ever use it definitely wear gloves it will stain ur hands if u don’t lol and the bass I caught them on live minnows!
Red hook remover is slotted hook fits in the slot to get control of it , should be able to give some pressure on hook to pop it out of the fish and extract it
I like your fishing videos and appreciate your approach and that you are learning. I like Tru-turn & circle hooks where they are applicable, but i can see you get much good advice here. Just do what you are doing and enjoy trying new things and find out what works for you.
And use circle hooks for cut bait. Along with your shrimp. Easier to hide the hook, and they hook the fish in the corner of the mouth. Making it easier to unhook.
I mainly use two rigs....one for fishing the bottom and one for the fishing the top and middle....look into a "drop shot" rig for panfish and look into a "slip float" (also called a "slip bobber" or "slip cork") setup....if you fan cast these two rigs properly you will definitely catch fish if they are around (like the catfish in the first video were)....great channel and video good luck! P.S. on the knot issue, look up a gentleman by the name of Richard Gene the Fishing machine and look up his "loop knot" video that is the best knot for slip float setup and the regular Uni-Knot to tie the weights/sinkers on the drop shot rig.
palomar knot is the easiest and strongest ive found for terminal connections. Outside of that when i connect braid to a leader i use a double uni knot.
Been using the Uni knot most of my life it's easy to tie and very strong and versatile. If you are fishing for catfish circle hooks usually work the best. One other suggestion is maybe should look into picking up a fishing pole holder, you can buy them or look on the Internet and make your own.
You should come out to California and fish we live two blocks away from two lakes and like 45 minutes to the ocean. We go south to San Diego also to catch tuna they fight like no other, its a huge challenge to bring in yellow tail and Tuna
I keep two different setups..One setup is small, and one is larger.. I use the smaller setup to catch bait..the smaller you fish the more you'll catch but they won't be big fish. The bigger setup will catch bigger fish if they're present, but bites will definitely be less. I'd use the small rig to catch perch or some other small fish. Then I'd cut that small fish up, or just throw it on the hook alive if it's small enough. The big rig can sit there since it's probably gonna be a while before you get a bite. Then I'd go back to catching bait with small rig..I do this just about every time I fish. Or honestly I think i'd get shiners in your fresh water situation.
Great video! Keep fishing, you’ll be a pro in no time. Here’s my helpful hint: don’t mention where you are fishing. You don’t want to give your spots away. Next thing you know there will dozens of peeps fishing in your spot!
You're doing great. I'm new to your channel. Try using a bobber sometime, if the water is deeper than knee-depth. Hook removal: get some longer/skinny pliers. Sporting goods stores or in the fishing department at a local outlet store would have these. Or even Amazon. My nephew has a lure-making business called fish crack plastics, they're great for catching anything. He catches bass and catfish on similar lures. Keep up the good work.
Get some corn 🌽 catch a carp cut it up use for cut bait add strawberry jello Mix well that catches catfish, bass, an pike. Oh yea try using a Carolina rig for them catfish hope that helps!
i appreciate that careful handling of fish is one of your top concerns that’s a great foundation much respect also rock bass are cool fish nice to see some excitement for those bois
Hey! couple tips, smaller hooks for worms, and you wanna thread them on the hook, catfish use that hook you had but, use a drop drig with weight and then hook and chicken liver.
hey fishing Brianna ,, awesome video and great view scene .thank you for nice video but fish on.i love fishing my country british columbia ,canada ,we got a salmons, trout, more . fish on
Use a number #8 or #10 Gamagatuzu circle hook with a nightcrawler, and as for the shrimp, you should cut it in pieces it will work better… I agree and that’s why I fish/love the outdoors. It’s like a small getaway from the world and it’s always a A++ when you land a fish… and as for the hook, sometimes you can go through the gills to unhook a circle hook and in some cases, it is what it is, it happens to all of us. 😎👍 hope that will work keep on fishing great job
Landed that fish and didnt even get up off the chair. Very impressive! Youre right about how relaxing fishing is but its a whole different level when you hike up streams & rivers looking for spots. Anyway keep up the good work. Oh and dont tell the viewers where you fish.
Definitely still a beginner haha but I appreciate it! I want to catch something bigger. Definitely going to hit up the Salmon River this year and take y’all with so hopefully I catch a good size salmon this year 🤞🏼
You can get some 90 degree or 45 degree long needle nose pliers from harbor frieght and go through the gill to get a hook out, im sure amazon sells that tool to dehook fish for situations like that i havent used one but looks easy to use
Try earlier in the day. Maybe they feed early mornings, and late afternoon. Catfish will eat anything 1/3 of their size. Cut bait usually works pretty good. Catch a very small bluegill, and throw it out into deep water there. If there is that many catfish coming up to you in the shallows. There is a lot of big ones in the deeps.
Mosquito hooks from Walmart are awesome all around hooks. I use them for trout, and small catfish. For catfish use like half a shrimp or maybe 1/3 of a shrimp as it nibbles set the hook . For the longest I'd wait thinking it was dumb and would swallow the hook but never did 😅. Someone got tired of me watching the shrimp get eaten and told me I'm supposed to set the hook 😂. For the bass, use a bobber set up and float the worms around in front of them. Damn here in California all those fish would be gone with how people fish everything out in a week or two 😂
You can also bring a little bowl and fill it with water to rinse your hands after you catch a fish or after you touch shrimp instead of wiping it on your pants LOL
hi from méxico, good videos keep going, here in méxico people catch catfish with stinky things like chicken guts, liver, things with blood, and let them on the sun to make them more stinky, where is that place? looks very cool, an advice Do not leave the line in the rod and store it like this in the car it may damage your equipment.
When the hook is stuck like that, you just need to twist it and get them barbs unlodged and yank pretty good. It'll seem like you're being mean to the fish, but a fish without a hook in the mouth has a much better chance of survival than one with a hook.
You need to keep that pole up so you can tell when you have a bite an get a pole holder so a big fish won't pull your pole in the water an use an old towel to wipe your hands then wash it when done fishing
A way to not let the fish eat the hook so deep is to pay attention to your pole and when they buy automatically pull so you catch them on the lip but sometimes they just inhale it and you can't help it and when this happens they sell a long plastic tool that has two circles on the end of it and it makes it very easy to get the hook out and not harm the fish and especially keep them out of the water for so long have a great day good video
I have one of those long red hook removers you’re referring to I tried to use that in the first video I uploaded with a trout with no success. I’m not sure how to use it correctly and I’ve tried looking up ways to use it
If the hook is too far down it’s better just cutting the line , the hook will deteriorate after time and will not affect the fishes life majorly .and I wasn’t staring at your but till you said 😂
I don't know everything but I have better luck. Bank fishing with my sinker on bottom. And a 4 to 6 in loop tied about 18in above the weight. And of course a slip float fishing 2ft or deeper 🎉
Nice to see young girls out in nature, fishing and appreciating a simpler life, not out raving and do drugs. Good for you, like your concern for the fish 🐟 😊.
It is ok to leave the hook in the fish if they swallow it, better than killing it. Try using smaller hooks dam those were big hooks. I 2nd the liver let it sit out in the sun to get really smelling, I know it gets nasty but it does work.......Good Luck :)
Okay put your weight at the bottom of your line and tie your hook on a little string above it that way you will feel every nibble and you don't have to let the fish pull your weights around and your bait before you feel the bite😮😮😮
It's kind of difficult but you tie your strings together in a knot and then you put your weights on the longest string so they hit and land on the bottom so that way when you get a bite you will feel it automatically
Also, chicken gizzards or livers work great for catfish. (breast works too, livers and gizzards are just cheaper and work just the same if not better.)
If you get a fish that swallows the hook like you had there, you can just cut the line like you did and pull the hook out in reverse with your pliers, it will slide right out. You'll have to re-rig but you had to do that anyways leaving it in. If it's so bad you just can't get it, you made the right decision to just leave it in rather than harm the fish. The chance of survival will probably be better as they will naturally dissolve over time as long as the hooks are not one of those stainless finishes.
You need to use an aperdeen number 6 hook. That is a wrong kind of hook for what you're fishing for. And if you put a slip bobber on your line and a very small sinker. You will also be better off catching fish that way.And if you want to catch catfish, you need your medium light pall. And catch them at night or early morning when they are feeding
Is the best way to take a hook out of a fish when the fish is hooked real good in the mouth get a pair of neither no pliers I under the grill you can see the hook yeah how is the hook is hook on the bass you can get need a nose pliers. You have to turn😮 turn the hook the right way to get the hook out the face mouth real gently.
@briannayoutt 🤣 I seen that next time check them make sure they didn't sell you, always use the Big nightcrawlers, oh yeah an dip piece of cut chicken in to kool-aid Red
Never had any luck with shrimp. I stick to baits natural to your waters. In my area in Indiana I mainly use bluegill, green sunfish, golden shiners, creek chub, or leftover pieces after I fillet my fish which I use as cut bait. The store bought stuff like catfish power baits or the magic catfish baits are a joke . Always check your local regulations some bait fish have restrictions.
Be careful using insect repellents with DEET. It you get on your hands it can be bad for your fishing line because it can harm outdoor gear and clothing made with synthetics, like nylon and waterproof/breathable membranes, as well as plastics. If the mosquitos aren't too bad, I would suggest trying an insect repellent that uses a 20% concentration of Picaridin.
I have been using the Palomar knot for 20 years. Never breaks at the knot, never comes undone, always trusty. Also super duper easy to tie compared to the other knots. Quick setup to get back to fishin.

Nothing beats just relaxing in nature catching some fish!👍
I’d recommend a top water popper lure. That way you can change it up. Some fish get excited and tend to strike hard on them!
The Palomar knot has been my go to knot for many years now. It's really simple to learn, very quick to tie and extremely strong. There's a bunch of TH-cam tutorials on how to tie it as well. Really enjoyed the video too. Take care and fish on.😊

Take your shrimp and put 3 or 4 Tablespoon of garlic in the bag and let it sit overnight and the cat fish love it.
Great job. You're enjoying the heck out of fishing. What a great escape and enjoying the company of your sis.
Depending on some hooks size can help by just using your finger. Follow the line down even if it's down his throat. Absolutely loving the fishing content, keep it coming!😄
I go fly fishing and what we do is crimp the barbs. If you get distressed by fish swallowing the hook, a crimped barb should make removing it easier.
Get a couple of thermacells, one for each of you. Its way better than spraying bug repellent on your skin, it's just not good for your skin. Try garlic and salt, or strawberry jello on the shrimp. Long handled needle nose pliers will reach way down in there and give you a solid grip on the hook shank.
You're videos are fun to watch, it's like traveling for me, I get lost in your videos, thank you for making them, video quality 100% better.
If you are not going to keep the fish then You can always pick up barbless hooks, or take some pliers, mash down the barbs on your existing hooks, or take a file and file the barbs down.
I always crush down the barbs to make it easier for catch and release!
Really enjoy ur fishing videos I know one day u and ur sis will catch a huge one! I went fishing the other day caught 6 catfish and 3 bass!
Danggg send some of that good luck my way!
lol next time u go fishing ur going to have the best of luck im sure of it! And I caught the catfish on kool aid chicken if u ever use it definitely wear gloves it will stain ur hands if u don’t lol and the bass I caught them on live minnows!

Good luck out there
Great video 👍 You are doing great thank you for the video 🙂
Gut hooked? Cut the line and the hook will rust out soon enough, esp. if they're not stainless steel.
Get some corn 🌽 catch a carp cut it up use for cut bait add strawberry jello
Mix well that catches catfish, bass, an pike.
Oh yea try using a Carolina rig for them catfish hope that helps!
i appreciate that careful handling of fish is one of your top concerns that’s a great foundation much respect
also rock bass are cool fish nice to see some excitement for those bois
Keep trying the red hook remover when the hook is set deep. You don't have to pull it really, just turn it. Nice catches.
Im going to start solo fishing you ispired me
Hey! couple tips, smaller hooks for worms, and you wanna thread them on the hook, catfish use that hook you had but, use a drop drig with weight and then hook and chicken liver.
patience, smaller hooks in lakes ponds
hey fishing Brianna ,, awesome video and great view scene .thank you for nice video but fish on.i love fishing my country british columbia ,canada ,we got a salmons, trout, more . fish on
I always had the best luck with catfish using garlic liver.
Try using chicken livers for catfish. And jerkbait for bass lurking very easy to use. Cool video try different types of fishing lures.!

Thank you very much!
Beautiful spot to fish!!
They also have them at f8shing stores too like sportsmans or bass pro.

You can also bring a little bowl and fill it with water to rinse your hands after you catch a fish or after you touch shrimp instead of wiping it on your pants LOL
LOL I had a cloth I brought with me for that purpose that’s why I was like fuckkk haha I didn’t mean to wipe it on me just happened 😂

I’m also from upstate I catch a lot of good fish here

Use chicken liver. It’s super cheap and catfish love it. Good luck.
Right on guys! Keep it rollin!
I don't know everything but I have better luck. Bank fishing with my sinker on bottom. And a 4 to 6 in loop tied about 18in above the weight. And of course a slip float fishing 2ft or deeper 🎉
Just use fishing hook remover or surgical clamp😊👍
you should try smuler hooks
You gotta push the hook in first, like down, then twist. Try to get as far down on the hook as possible.
Thank you!!
Itll come easy to ya if u keep fishing. Esp single hooks..The worst are little treble hooks.
keep these videos coming!
use circle hooks for the catfish!
Nice to see young girls out in nature, fishing and appreciating a simpler life, not out raving and do drugs. Good for you, like your concern for the fish 🐟 😊.
Awesome !!❤
🎉i like to use Polamer knot (if i spelled it right) lol
good work
You can try using cup bait, like anchovies or chicken liver. Those will work great on stripers, catfish and other types of feeders type of fish.
People keep mentioning that but I’m not sure how to do that
It's kind of difficult but you tie your strings together in a knot and then you put your weights on the longest string so they hit and land on the bottom so that way when you get a bite you will feel it automatically
Also, chicken gizzards or livers work great for catfish. (breast works too, livers and gizzards are just cheaper and work just the same if not better.)

Thanks ladies 😊
Come to California I’ll take you fishing’s with me there so many fish in the sea
Where did you get them glasses from
Walmart!
If you want to fish for catfish buy catfish huk they work the best Chicken, liver or beef liver?
Try using a fish head next time for the cat fish. Nice catch though.
You have to turn😮 turn the hook the right way to get the hook out the face mouth real gently.
cut worms in half doubles up ur bait
I usually do but these ones were so skinny and small they were like pin worms 😂
@briannayoutt 🤣 I seen that next time check them make sure they didn't sell you, always use the Big nightcrawlers, oh yeah an dip piece of cut chicken in to kool-aid Red
Never had any luck with shrimp. I stick to baits natural to your waters. In my area in Indiana I mainly use bluegill, green sunfish, golden shiners, creek chub, or leftover pieces after I fillet my fish which I use as cut bait. Use forsepts they use them in the medical field or hospitals.
Thank you, that’s a really good idea.
You have hoop piercings. Just think of it as trying to get that loop out of where ever the fish is hooked.
Thank you for the suggestion!!
