The Choctaw nation donated $170 to ireland during the famine I think we donated 1.8 million to them during the pandemic there ia a statue in Co Cork to memorialise their charity
That gave me a good chuckle
@@chunkygaming8464what’s funny? 170$ in the 1800s wasn’t nothing. And even if no money was sent, it’s still a gesture of good will. Nothing to chuckle about during the potato blight (genocide).
$170 during the famine was like 1 million beads so actually pretty generous.
These trolls dk shit, actually the choctaw sent so many potatoes that it saved Ireland
Yeah and that equals like 4k today. They didn't have a lot to give. Something is better than nothing
"quit bitching or your kids gay." should be taught globally. 😂
Google wat a SOB is
Thats why I turned out a weak man, drug addict, not successful and curious about trans women
From the Native American perspective, their history after colonization plays like dystopian science fiction. Just that jump in technology
You snooze you lose
There wasn't really that big of a difference. You're thinking about the modern era, which natives also got sucked into. Just on the oppressed end. 1700s is already hundreds of years of being stripped of your humanity
@@MasterTeacher666 crappy way at looking at history
@@cesarperez5422then why they lose the battles if not for the significant difference in technology? Aka weaponry?
@@reynazuli They weren't "conquered" by being defeated in battles,
Natives sound lit as fuck 😂😂
man we coulda had it so good 😂
You do
They kinda sucked
Natives get twice as lit when they drink

Blood Meridian is a crazy good book. Needs to be a movie. True American classic. McMurtry is a great read to.
@@lonniedahlstrom110 any other recommendations?
How do you make blood meridian into a movie that is allowed in theatres? lol
@@Sesshomarux88all his books are great but none of them are as dark. No Country For Old Men is his second best work in my opinion. The borders trilogy is also very good
@@snistalpiechild of god?
@@Dontcrywittle1wtf are you taking about, there are movies much worse than Blood Meridian.
Trade was much bigger than depicted and is what created more peaceful ways. Fighting for hunting grounds and resources is something that has existed forever and definitely existed before colonization.
Colonization happened pretty much because rival tribes wanted to get ahold of weapons to use against each other and instead of wiping out the paltry amount of Europeans they traded with. Beaver Wars a good example, also the reason why the Pilgrims weren’t wiped out
Nuh-uh before the evil white man showed up the North and South American continents all lived together in peace with each other and harmony with nature, they spent every day braiding buffalos hairs and helping birds eggs hatch while at night they sung songs of joy and love and protected the bunny rabbits and baby deer from wolves and bears, who they also helped with yummy honey and cleaning ticks from their coats
"colonization" was all of us at one point or another
"I wonder if powdered wigs were like a black lady's weave" - The End 🤣🤣🤣🤣😲😳💀☠️
The gauntlet was sometimes fatal and afterward, for hated male enemies or someone who showed cowardice, they would often be tortured or burned to death!
Yes, the gauntlet could be a death sentence. A prisoner marked with black didn't survive. See Blood and Treasure, Daniel Boone biography.

The problem with Columbus Day is the Vikings sailed here 500ish years before Columbus so I call BS lol
Yea but they probably took the shorter route. Columbus was a G for going straight across
America (north and south) is fucking huge my guy lol
The Japanese accent at 8:22 kills me everytime
Cormac McCarthy actually learnt spanish for Blood Meridian, I just ordered it last night.
"They made them run the Agro Crag from Guts" is the best 90's reference I've ever heard. Well done Matt.
Awesome. I never hear that reference
I think Shane is half native or nibbled a finger in his day lol grate humor
there was a theory that native americans actually did have horses but they were intentionally killed "not for any one specific reason there were alot of reasons" the same thing happened to the native american dogs, there used to be like 20 different native american dog breeds
fun fact: horses evolved in north America but died out here
Excellent point it makes ya think
Incase anyone reads this and is confused as i was, horses evolved into essentially what they are now in north america, some migrated across the land bridge, and the rest that remained were killed of by the weather and natural predators (including lesser developed hominids). Which means that the horss we have in the states are descendants of reintroduced horses.
Straight dawg ☝️
@@chunkygaming8464 The Spanish brought them in and they were stolen or escaped and within a hundred years large herds formed.
Camels too.
Never execute onions
I might not have sucked at history if Shane would have been one of my teachers.
Soldiers and sailors before instant communication would number the outside of the envelope so when mail would get delayed, you knew before you even opened the letter if you were missing something. There is a long recorded history of the practice. Dates are great, but they don’t tell you if your missing a letter
Thanks

"It's a human instictual thing- making people run a gauntlet"
lol imitation is the human instinct thing. Your highschool borrowed the tradition from natives because only the tough survived.
5:51 powder wigs were generally worn due to various stages of men and women, but mostly men contracting syphilis.
I remember the first time I ate rice, now I don't remember the first time I ate rice.
They were closer to about 3000 years behind Europe.
The native Americans did not have guns with the Texans were there. When the Texas rangers were there, native Americans were still using bows because it was faster than a single shot rifle. It's when Samuel colt made his 5 shot revolver in 1836 and the Texas rangers adopted it and started to really mess the Native Americans up, is when they started to think guns were a viable option. When the level action repeating rifle was made in 1860 is when the native Americans started using them, before that they would get a revolver off a dead soldier, but when the rifle was released the Native Americans actually searched and traded for those so they could use them.
As a native that shit was funny the good guys have a gauntlet? Lol
Man I can’t stand it when modern natives choose to be victimized rather than changing and improving like my mom did.
"This is global guts" well put Matt LMAO
What I thought they were innocent Hippies who hugged trees and loved all people

Your subtitles arent great bro I'd just let yt do that. Liked tho, because MSSP history time rules
Thanks for the feedback I’ll work on it for the upcoming videos!
Your ears don’t work? Very un dawg of you to complain about subtitles
Wasn’t really complaining, just offering advice for a fellow dawg.
If they let commtube do their subtitles their videos would probably get snatched
Its just a program that does it automatically. Thays how all of them work.
How many channels are going to post these same clips? I keep getting excited, thinking it's new MSSP history talk, but it's the same shit that's been posted and reposted for years now

“Celts were here before Native Americans” lolll definitely not. Buddy has no clue. Notice how Shane doesn’t acknowledge this other guy when he says this lol

Empire of the summer moon
The people asking for the name of the book like they'd actually read it 😂😂😂 like they know how to read 😂😂😂
This might surprise you I’m from Australia and read these books and many more on this topic years ago.
Native American history is interesting so is our 60 thousand plus year Aboriginal history that most people don’t give a second thought about. If someone is interested enough reading a book on the subject is the best way to learn , at the same time (in this day and age)wherever you lean something no matter what it is surly has to be a good thing.
Feel sorry for the person without the intellect or inclination to learn anything of their own accord.
Wait this means various tribes were trying to take over the land and when they didn't unite early enough and prepare, opportunists took the opportunity .
What's the name of the book?
what is the name of the book hoe rogan recommended?

Abolished physical slavery world wide is just a ally oop pass for non physical slavery slam dunk later.
We also did the gauntlet in high school after swim class with wet towels. One kid almost lost an eye for real. He had to run again the next day with an eye patch since he didn’t make it through.

They used tribes versus tribes. As settlers displaced a tribe west, the displaced tribes would inevitably fight the tribes further west.

Your highschool gauntlet came from Native American tradition… it isn’t instinctive lol
The subtitles are distracting.
Distracting from what? Why are you watching the video?
Then turn off the screen and watch
The comache got horses and bloodlust from the Spanish. Their torture was mild before contact with the Spanish

Screw them onions
Why no Indians have facial hair
Just skip the subtitles. So exhausting seeing errors every time I look down.
Whoever the guy is around the 40 min+ mark sucks. He tries way too hard to be funny. Just shut the fork up and let Shane cook
Dawg at least check which parts of the show were already uploaded. So many channels go right to do not recommend tab cause Im sick of getting seven mins into a podcast than hearing the same chat that’s it a million other videos
Please make the subtitles bigger and bolder
Matt is painful to listen to when you just want Shane to do story time
yo is this whats on the paytreon ?
One thing that puzzled early americans was that europeans chose to live and stay with the indians, and no indians chose to live with the europeans, to adopt that lifestyle, at least long term. It was a big topic during the times (why don't they see how much better we are, and why do our own people choose to stay with them?) and perhaps indicative of how we feel in hierarchical societies versus more collective societies.
13:30 Land bridge? I thought people had concluded the earliest entrants to North America used the coastlines to move south? I guess without a land bridge there's no coastline to follow but still...
The Bering Straits were the “land bridge” from Asia above sea level thousands of years ago. Asians migrated between ice ages following herds through Alaska and moving South following the coast into N. And S. America. There were several waves of migrations.
@@lonniedahlstrom110 Did they travel by sea or by foot? By sea is the growing consensus, warmer, more resources, and easier travel. How did they get to South America so quick by foot, there's some hard landscapes to cross but the sea is plentiful the whole way down. Did they eat herds of seals or herds of bison?
Hey I though you were buy pizza and Pepsi .can't have a story with out Pepsi
Those reservations are absolutely horrific. I've seen it first hand. Front porches just overflowing with beer cans and trash. Every home. No lie. And that's actually not a photo of that white woman. It's a painting therfore left to interpretation. Probably why she is painted so dark.
We pay reparations to rebuild their society. And they spend it on Bmws, weed and alcohol. While living in absolute dumps unable to even speak their people’s language 😂
@@FroggyHopScotch30 that's why reparations are unrealistic. It's always the victor of some societal inheritance paying out the losers to be quiet while they lick their wounds with short term pleasures forever.
Short term pleasures forever
I'm on a reservation right now, come here every day for work. There are no front porches overflowing with beer cans, you're just racist.
