I must admit George a good friend introduced me to them about 10 years ago knew the name but never investigated glad for the reissues and the next 2 later in the month.
George Lamie has mentioned this band often on SoT so familiar with the name but don't have any of their catalogue. Time to change that so starting with these and time to order from The Professor. Thanks, Pete, for bringing these reissues to the weekly new product episodes this week. The personal CD budget is taking a hit this week.
Nice review Pete. I only heard of these guys as a fan of Devon's latter band Dead Soul Tribe. I brought the latest Psychotic Waltz album when it was released. It was very hard to even find and purchase the earlier albums. So it is really great that Inside Out are doing these re-issues. I have NOW purchased them from my local metal import store in Australia at relatively exorbitant import prices
In Europe overhere, Into The Everflow and Mosquito reissues were released last Friday. A Social Grace and Bleeding were released overhere at the end of May this year.
Great to see Psychotic Waltz get featured even if these are reissues. They are such a good band and a must listen for anyone who likes progressive metal, especially if you are fan of the early, first-wave period (1985-92).
A month ago, I’d never heard of Psychotic Waltz, man…. Are they good. I heard Ken Golden mention them, and I ordered the lot on both cd and vinyl. Prog metal is my fav genre, so these are perfect albums. I played Bleeding three times last night. Need I say more?
The God Shaped Void is one of my favourite albums in the last 5 years, I picked up Social Grace on vinyl years ago, must be 27 years plus for £2 at Spinadisc in Northampton, at the time i could not understand or appreciate it, it was so different to anything at the time , just sold it off for peanuts, finally after relistening again was not a good decision so will look to rectify the decision and pick up this and all four releases
This is a band I've always heard of, and knew, about but never had any of their albums. Needless to say, I pre-ordered those two albums, the other two and picked up the last album a couple of weeks ago. Really enjoying this band! Now we just need Realm's Endless War and Suiciety to get deluxe reissues!
Ive not listened to PW in ages. Just went through A Social Grace and I had forgotten how good it was. Lots influences are worn on the sleeve; vocal and guitar bits that are lifted from Rainbow(Dio) and Iron maiden.
I bought A Social Grace in 1990 because it was album of the month in at least one German magazine (does anyone remember Metal Star?) and was already called an instant prog metal classic, a title well deserved, it’s still my favorite prog metal album. It was released on Rising Sun records, if I remember correctly, a small German indie label. The sound of the CD wasn’t great, but I always liked it. I’m curious about whether the new remaster sounds much different and better to justify a rebuy. I’m usually not that keen on bonus tracks or demos. Bleeding, in hindsight, must have been an early offender of the loudness war, beginning in the mid-nineties. I wonder if they improved the sound in that regard.
My main question is: is the bonus CD that comes with A Social Grace worth it? I only recently discovered Psychotic Waltz, but already bought an older version of A Social Grace (great album!) without any bonus material (I didn't know about the reissue). But I really like the bonus CD (Into The Everflow & Aslan demos) that came with my 2004 reissue of Into the Evenflow. It definitely adds another hour of music I enjoy listening to. The 2024 reissues being out why I found Psychotic Waltz's CDs in a second hand shop :D
Will hopefully get my 5-vinyl set on Friday when the last two will be released. As insane collector scum I needed to get this reissue too of course.... although I have all original releases (including the original CD release of A Social Grace on the band's own Sub Sonic label) and theMetal Blade reissues from 2004.......the curse is real, right.....;-)
One of the best, yet most underrated early prog metal bands. Cool you finally found time to dig into those!
GEORGE/ strictly learned this band, from you. You know !!!👍💯
I must admit George a good friend introduced me to them about 10 years ago knew the name but never investigated glad for the reissues and the next 2 later in the month.
George I agree 100% one of my favorite prog metal bands thanks to you guys!
My favorite progressive metal band and my favorite metal vocalist of all time. Will get the first four albums and the Demos soon on vinyl.
Great review Great albums 🤘💯💯💯💯

And if you combine Psychotic waltz with Watchtower, you get an SoT favourite, Spiral Architect
Indeed. Which is why that band was so incredible! We used to say they were like Watchtower with John Arch on vox.
I will add to the mix Atheist and Cynic.
