Griegs best melodies are up there with Tchaikovsky, Bach Beethoven and Mozart. He deserves to be ranked among them.
I heard Peer Gynt at school in the 4th grade. I loved it. I told my mother about it and she surprised me with an LP. Because of that I learned to love classical music and have enjoyed it all my life. Thanks, Mom.

But.. he was widely considered a great composer even in his time, let alone praised as one of the greats after, and one of the most famous names in his home country. You sure he wasn't recognized?

@@zali7596 It's a pretty nice place. Grew up 5 minutes from his home myself, so seen where he wrote his music and what nature he took inspiration from. If you find it that interesting, definitely take the trip to Bergen and see Troldhaugen.

That Hall of the Mountain King was fantastic! All of the pieces were fantastic! I wish I could get this as a CD. He should have been more well known than he was. What a talent!

I haven't heard Grieg since I was a little girl, maybe 3 yrs old. I used to tip over the dog basket and dance to The Hall of the Mountain King, dancing faster and faster. I just loved that music. I haven't heard of some of these pieces and they are all beautiful. Such a gifted composer and musician. xxxx

Edward Grieg was born in the city of Bergen, in the family of the British consul, Alexander Grieg, and a professional pianist, graduate from the Hamburg Conservatory, Gesina Hagerup.
In the autumn of 1858, Edvard Grieg, then only 15 years old, went to the Leipzig Conservatory to study music.
The same extent as Brahms, perhaps undeservedly and unfairly, is unpopular with Russian musicians and the Russian public, Grieg managed to win the hearts of Russians once and for all.

Не зная названия композиции, и услышав её впервые, я сразу представлял себе утро, ранее солнце, своими лучами освещающее утреннюю природу, своим ярким, но мягким светом, освещающее всю лесную зелень, и зелёную травку, и веточки, и листики всех кустов и деревьев, и золотые поля под голубым, синим безоблачным небом, и воду в ручейках и больших реках, всю оживающую после ночного сна природу. Шедевр классической музыки.
