As always, you are the most professional and thorough Pilot on TH-cam, on Twitch, and I'm sure in real life too. Absolutely love all your content Captain. Thank you for all the countless work hours you put into teaching!
Well done! I have about 2,000 hours in the X-plane 11 B737-800 and have flown from Germany to Innsbruck with a go around. Have to keep eye on everything while performing.
I flew the LOC R to RWY 26 for the first time last night in the Toliss A319 in XP11. Going to try a departure today. Thank you for the refresher on climb gradients. I’m a non-current instrument rated PPL in the real world and studying for an IPC along with my commercial license to get current again. I didn’t maintain currency the last few years since my flying club plane was not IFR capable before its avionics upgrade. I’m flying every complex mountain procedure I can find to challenge myself.
Great help for all simmers we are. Very interesting, I took notes. :) Quite hard to configure the sensibility of the yoke and rudder pedals with this really cool add-on, after using the Aerosoft A320 for years, but I live in hope. :) Greetings from France and hope to see other videos very soon.
Thank you so much for this new content. As LOWI is my home base :) I'd love to see more content about LOWI. I am very interested in the special FOEHN procedures, as they occure here quite often. Unfortunately, even most non VACCAustria controlers don't know them and so this would be a good chance for all to learn something new :) ... Thank you!
Hello Phillip. I will put this request forward to the responsible VACCAustria controllers. The problem with the FOEHN procedure is the fact that this phenomenom is not simulated in any PC flightsimulator. I will talk to the controllers and see if we can come up with something. Happy Landings
Foehn procedures are pretty straight forward: stay as high and as north as possible. Departure is simply a early visual left turn after 08 departure to the most northern track possible. Arrival is usually visually (with foehn you mostly have perfect visual conditions in the valley) on the northern side of the valley, stay as high as possible, cross short before or overhead the field into the southern downwind (right downwind 08) and then it's a normal circling. New alternativ is the rnp z/rnav y 08 e.g. from the east flying RTT-> ELMEM. Saves the turbulences in the inn-valley overhead the city centre (most turbulent spot I have encountered flying here during building up foehn is overhead the ski jump, try to avoid it in foehn conditions). So more for pax-comfort, but less fun without the circling. Nice video by the way, blackbox. Very straight forward, calm and by the book. The real fun in LOWI starts with all the non-standard departures and arrivals, all the visuals (Wipptal, Sellraintal) or balked landing procedures etc. Fun place, especially due to very cooperative and friendly ATC in real life as well (apart from winter-charter-saturdays, where it becomes super busy). You can request most everything you are able to fly. And the mountains here never fail to impress. Less fun are diversions or cancelations due to fog in fall..... All the best.
@@checkinn7848 thank you! Yes, I know all these descriptions. I was just looking forward to a tutorial video, done by a pro like blackbox :) ... happy (foehn) landings!
Hi BB, great to see you on TH-cam again, boy oh boy !! isn't that LOWI scenery just lovely, I haven't been able to do the 08 circling as yet because when I have visited LOWI it's been LowVis, but wish me luck for the time I get my first go at it. BTW, did you every get the email I sent regarding the PACSIM - KSLC gate number designation changes I made awhile back. Thanks for the time and effort you put into these tutorials. Hey Merv. Thank you for your comment and kind feedback. Sorry, I seemed to have missed your email but just found it again. I will respond soon. Thank you again and happy landings.
Thank you so much for this fantastic video, you can see how much effort went into it. One question: you mention that config 2 is needed on the breno/adilo deps because you are not allowed to go above 15° bank below the respective maneuvering speed. Would this be the same on departures where you turn below the acceleration altitude and a minimum bank angle of greater than 15° is required? For example LOWW 29 deps with turn at 1000ft and accel alt of 1600ft + minimum bank of 20° during initial turn.
nice nice, this kind of video is what a enthusiast simmer like me is looking for, one question: is there a reason that you kept gnd spoilers armed after going around (after the circle to land procedure)? keep posting video captain
Captain thank you very much for explaining everything. I request if you can make a short clip on engine out SID if punished otherwise engine out strategies from these SIDs... specially for that departure which clearly mentions TAKE OFF ALTERNATE REQUIRED ... because quick land back is not a choice with that departure
Thanks for the video, it's highly appreciated. Isn't it a standard practice to put the circling rwy into the secondary FPLN? Didn't you do this because of the pretty complicated go-around procedures? Therefore the fix-info centerline for 08 as alternative?
Hi. The SEC F-PLN is mainly used for the second runway in order to have the managed speed mode available. If you don't do this with stronger wind conditions the FMGS will not calculate the Vapp properly. You noticed correctly that I entered an extended centerline for RWY 08 to help me judge the turn to final.
Amazing video! the best lowi explanation that's for sure. I have one question, I did an attempt once in lowi on vatsim, and I was cleared the visual circle to land 08 but it was at night :O I was wondering, is that a simulator thing or is this possible in real life? I mean how does one fly visual when its completely dark? Thanks for awesome content!
Looking more at the available arival options, I have found out that the one in the MCDU that corresponds to the chart "LOC DME EAST" is called LOC26. There is also LOC26-R for "LOC R RWwy 26".

Danke
Did I understand you right, that even if I'm cleared for RNP Y 08 by ATC, I can choose to fly the RNP Z 08 approach? Or should I say something like "Request RNP Z approach to Rwy08". Because I had exactly this problem last time. It was night, no visual reference and I was cleared for the RNP Y 08. Nevertheless I programmed RNP Z 08 in the FMC to be on the safer side and all went fine...but I was asking myself afterwards if I had to ask ATC for clearence or if they even expect me to do so in night times.
Hi. You need to fly the cleared approach type. If you want to fly a different one, you need to ask the controller for permission. For example the Y and Z approaches may have a different initial or missed approach.
@@darethezone970 because of the mountains in the vicinity you want to make sure that your turning radius is as small as possible. as you can see a bit later S-speed was around 185 kts, which would signigicantly increase the turning radius. Some Boeing planes have at least a FPA indicator. However you need to adjust the V/S yourself.

When you say that you have prepared for landing on either runway, do you mean that you have entered a path for both RTE1 and RTE2?
Hi Richard. Yes, in order to be able to use the managed speed mode for the landing, you would need to enter the second runway into the SEC F-PLN.
I tried to do this on Fenix A320 FS2020. When the LS keys are pressed, on PFD i can see blinking amber V/DEV. Why ?
That is a bug in the FENIX unfortunately, which needs to be fixed.
