I spent $400 on Hypeddit ads. Here's what happened.

The thing to remember when using Facebook/Google ads is the algorithms behind those platforms are made for advertising toothpaste or plumbers - general consumer products. If you have an existing audience they can be beneficial but advertising music to create a new fan base is totally different and confuses their algorithms. Hence the reason why Facebook is driving all your ads to age 65+. That doesn't make sense and doesn't do much for the long-term success of your brand as a musician. At a minimum I'd disable the Advantage+ audience and limit the age demographic but the truth is this kind of advertising doesn't work for most musicians, at least not in terms of creating a sustainable brand. It'll create clicks and plays but not an economically viable brand.

My 2 cents (and just my opinion): But absolutely NEVER use a 3rd party website, plugin or even an agency to run Facebook ads. Learn it and do it yourself. There is so much that can go wrong doing it this way and ultimately you have no control / no idea if what they're doing is the right way to do it. That's just my opinion as I say, but when you hand it off to someone / something else you ultimately have no control of the outcome

Eh, I get where you're coming from... but if you carry that thinking through your whole life, it gets pretty unsustainable, right?
But to your point, I do think it's a good idea to learn how to do ads, specifically. That way, if you do outsource, at least you have a general idea of what's going on.

Good point, so much can go wrong, AND trying to get immediate help from the vendor just doesn't happen. It's like trying to have a washcloth shipped to you when you have poop on your hands, and having to wait until it arrives a couple days later. It stinks.

That cost of result is bad, I would've turned it off pretty quickly. Also 20% conversion from the landing page to Spotify is not good. We need at least 35-40%. Better 50-60+

Yeah, fair points. If I wasn't doing it as a test, I might've turned it off, too.

I run hypeddit ads all the time and my cpc is usually .04 - .06 cents with a 50% conversion.
I left another comment on this video with some more info that might help

I absolutely not thinking that the problem is coming from the quality of your song. I just listen to it … it’s great song ! Congrats.
Maybe small improvements on the mix , but nothing big in my opinion.
The problem is coming more probably from the targeting and that with external tools you have no way to fine tune and makes smart moves

Ah, really appreciate the kind words, and the thoughts - thanks! For context, I'm actually decently proud of the songwriting - I just think I''m a subpar producer ha.

So, I have seen the wizard on Hypeddit myself but it only lets me update photos, no video... Are you sure you can also add videos? An ad with a static picture is not very engaging imo

I’ve used this with my own videos and it works. I agree static photos ads are not engaging.

Did you try the new Ai model, tgat lets the ai choose the audience? Also I would upload my own video not use hyppedits.

Yeah, just based on this test, it seems like you're likely to see a higher CPR than if you run a good campaign yourself.

@@twostorymediamusic That is a loaded question. How long does it take from a novice to go from 1st campaign to "good campaign? How much money will you spend getting to the point were you could duplicate even the high Hypeditt results?

the goal of ads isn't to break even; it's to build a fanbase and get your music heard. You make money by monetizing those fans later on via merch, ticket sales, bandcamp and/or donations, etc. If you want to profit solely off of streams, you can do it, but you're gonna need to focus on getting playlisted constantly rather than running ads (Russ is a great example for this), or better yet, running ads to your own playlists.

Streaming payouts are broken, some big changes are going to have to happen for us to make any money at this.

The 1.9 plays per listener is a key indicator of the quality of the song. 3+ plays is the bare minimum for a quality/liked song.

Thanks for your advice Jon! I've tried Hydeddit too and have not been impressed with the results. I was wondering, did you see any increase in subscribers because that's what John Gold suggests happens and seems to be a big selling point? Jamie 🙂

      @twostorymediamusic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Not a ton... maybe 20, max.
But to be fair, I wasn't using the "Grow my profile" objective, which runs ads right to your artist profile and results in more followers. I was running to a specific song, so the main metric I was expecting to see was saves.

@@twostorymediamusic Okay thanks. By the way, is there much difference between a save and a playlist add. I get a lot more playlist adds and very few saves and I don't know why!
