  • Each week, Art Bytes takes a deep dive into the Detroit Institute of Arts' collection. In this episode, Gallery Teacher Merlin Chappuis takes us to the Ancient Near East galleries to look at art made thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia, which was known as the Fertile Crescent. He shows us what the symbols of royalty and status are in a relief sculpture of the powerful king Tukul, the meaning of a dragon named Mushushu, and the different materials and techniques artists used many centuries ago.
