Yep. My Lucerne with the 3.8 almost got me home and blew a coil. It took the ignition module with it and for some reason blew the 15amp fuse for the back injectors. My insurance is minimal with tow service. I like being able to just call and a tow truck shows within an hour instead of having to call around to find someone. I had them tow it to my house and drop it off and replaced everything. I just use a sharpie paint pen to number the coils though. I sure would like to see the CAFE standards rolled back to 2008 and bring back the 3800 engine.

I had a similar old car, but it was like a 92 Olds Cierra with 3.3. Never had any codes and I could unplug the MAF and it ran ok so I left it unplugged. She has a stall cranks no-start at Walmart but it started when I got there. Checked everything with old Tech 2 and even tapped on the ECM, nothing. At the time it was running ok but had a ruff idle and took a long time to start when cold. Check the fuel pressure and there's the problem, 24 psi! Should be 47 psi on this one. New fuel pump fixed it. Just got the cheapest fuel pump on rockauto. 1992 how long can a fuel pump last anyway 😁 I don't remember the 3.3 having a cam sensor, at least the parts store didn't show one and I never found it. I thought that was weird. Told her next we gone junk it!
I don't know about a 92, but every 3.3 (in fact every 60 degree gm v6) I have ever seen has a camshaft position sensor. It lives below the intake in front of the serpentine belt it is a Hall Effect 3 Wire Sensor. It will not cause a no start but will cause extended crank starts if it fails.
I don't thing the Wrecker normally has them. Normally they have a truck with a hook and they are coming to tow you away. Or sell you a cheap battery at an inflated price.

I keep an extra ignition control module and coils in my trunk and I have fuses too.

Why not get coils + module from wrecker. What is cost vs wrecker

How did i know coil and module are bad?
You test them. th-cam.com/video/yGeY-WU-FM4/w-d-xo.html
