    The music I grew yup on for sure.....memories of bell bottoms, playing in the woods, kids totally free roaming for miles till the streetlights came on, sittin on hill watching Trans-ams, corvettes, and Camaros racing down the road down by my house for bragging rights, only to be beaten down like baby seals by the local chevelle SS. Just 1970s southern child hood. I know that's a crazy description for a song, but it's just the memories that come back with a song. I was a 70s child.

    Would love to see yall do the killers when we were young I think you both would dig it

  • @andrewjackson7758

    If you guys dig this song, Jimi Hendrix had played the Fillmore East on New Years Eve 1969-70. The album was originally called Band of Gypsies. Jimi died less than a year later, so Bill Graham hired Mountain to play the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve 1970-71, as they were the next best thing in America at the time. Both Jimi Hendrix and Mountain played Woodstock in August 1969, as well.
    You guys really should review Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix from the Band of Gypsies LP. It's the most heartfelt guitar playing imaginable. It's a song about being in the shit during the Vietnam War. Nothing has ever bested it in over 50 years. Incredibly Jimi left the planet at only 27.

    I saw Mountain or Leslie West solo 19 times, always a trip. One of the top 5 guitarists of all time for just inherent heaviness and brute force combined with inventiveness and blues Rocking soul. He was an IKON, will never forget seeing him a couple times with the original band and bassist, co-singer Felix Papalardi. Also saw him with Mountain's drummer, Corky Laing 10 times, they were made to play together. One of Rock's underrated bands, Do Never In My Life, Crossroader and any version of Nantucket Sleighride, original or live, it is Epic! Enjoy. 🎸

    The biggest hit by those boys from New York, Mountain ... after only a few club dates, the played Woodstock in September 1969 before a half a million people. The vocalist and guitarist had an earlier album under the lead singer's name and the album was entitled Mountain - using studio musicians ... and after a legit band they called the band Mountain .... Nantucket Sleigh Ride (I think) was there second biggest charted hit. My personal second favorite Mountain song is Theme of An Imaginary Western (also from Climbing!).

    I might have this wrong but I think there's a link between Mountain and Cream. Something like a guy called Felix Pappalardi was producer for both.
    This song featured briefly in the film Vanishing Point which is legendary.

    • @erikthompson619
      @erikthompson619 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're almost spot on. Felix Pappalardi was the producer for Cream and the bassist/co-lead vocalist in Mountain, as well as the producer. Hilariously, Leslie West wanted Felix as the bassist for his band, knowing Felix to be a monster on the instrument - Felix was a classical conservatory dropout who then discovered rock'n'roll and fell madly in love with the bass guitar - but, pushing 30, he thought himself too old to be in a band so Leslie had to coax him. First by lying to him and say "many stars have become producers, you could be the first producer becoming a star" - having no idea whether this would be a first or not. And finally, by saying: "Come on, I'm a fat Jew, you're a skinny Italian - we'd be perfect together!". And Felix gave in, becoming the de facto leader of Mountain until he was, sadly, murdered by his wife in 1983. But, that's a whole other story for another day.

    R I.P.🙏 Leslie Weinstein aka Leslie West. He had one heck of a guitar tone. And his singing was awesome. Gonna miss you Leslie. Rock in peace

    1st, they are not Southern at all, well maybe south NY. Leslie West (RIP) was an incredible guitarist and the band, though not very commercial, had some great music. Try "Nantucket Sleighride", "Theme For An Imaginary Western", "For Yasgur's Farm", Silver Paper" or their live version of "Johnny B. Goode"... you won't be disappointed. Another great band I saw in concert in 1972 at University of NH.. they were explosive

    Classic "cowbell" song. :) Delta blues wedded with hard rock... I first heard this one in the movie "Vanishing Point" in 1971. Hard rock-blues. Fun, fun. Scores a "10" for bass line, and of course cowbell.
