Even if the ice does melt and didn’t overflow the world (not saying it’s not possible, I do believe that it’s going to happen). But there are animals (such as polar bears and penguins) who live on ice, without the ice, the animals will have no home. And to the commenters who are saying; “If you put ice in a glass water, wait until melts, nothing will happen, it won’t overflow.” I’m sure that’s not how that works… I’m no science professional, but I’m positive something does happen. I believe the overflowing happens, depends on how full you fill the cup and how much ice you put in. Heck, put a couple of ice in a cup by themselves, don’t add water. Wait until they melt, and see what happens 🤓

Their argument is flawed though, just not for the reason you pointed out. If the world heats up, and the ice melts there will be more water in the oceans. This does not directly increase the water level, however when water heats up it grows in volume due to thermal expansion. Thus it takes up more space and increases the water level. We are not only heating up the ice caps, but the existing water too.
