At my company in the U.S. where we do OEM Systems for Power Plants we are using Modbus TCP/IP for main new projects where it involves DCS. On my side of the company where we often deal with legacy systems and upgrading the PLC and IIoT, Cloud we are doing some stuff with OPC UA. Doing more stuff into the future with OPC UA seems to be the reality for various reasons at our company. Modbus TCP/IP will still exist for a while though I predict.
Thank you for videos .. I still do not understand face to face routing data 000ls and 1111ns e.g temperature of 20degrees in rtu and tcp ip .How could I imagine those if two protocol would be seen in a screen simultaneously ?
Modbus RTU is still alive and won't die soon, Modbus TCP is increasing in the market, Profibus is not a direct subistute for Modbus, it's limited in quantità of data per node. In Europe Profibus DP is used quite often between PLC/DCS and remote I/O, and Profibus PA for field instruments.
I don't think Modbus is going anywhere. It is the only protocol to the best of my knowledge that's been around since 1979 and is still widely in use. The only knock it has is the lack of encryption which has also been introduced with the new version with TLS. I believe OPC UA/MQTT are more suited for bulk transfer of data to the cloud and would complement Modbus not replace it.

Modbus IP is used in every Power Meter. This will not change. Of course, the cloud functions will be built in additionally.
