Phenolic is not plastic. It's wood layered with resin, so it's actually wood. It's more eco-friendly because any wood can be used for it, comes in many colors, is as hard as ebony on the hardness scale (Hence the nickname "ebonol") and doesn't need a finish to protect it. It's awesome imo, all fingerboards should be made from it.

Yeah, Dude's wrong. He's referring to impregnating wood with phenolic resin, similar to how fiberglass is impregnated with epoxy resin. I believe that in the case of the guitar neck the phenolic is applied to the top of the neck as a liquid and after it sets it's machined into the final profile.
No...it's not...did I type anything about fiberglass? Taken from Wikipedia: "Ebonol is a synthetic material whose name derives from its similarity in appearance, hardness, and stability to ebony wood...Ebonol is technically known as "XXX Paper Phenolic" and is a high-pressure laminate made from layers of black paper and phenolic resin." Ask any builder who works with phenolic fingerboards, or any manufacturer who makes them, be it under the name "phenolic", "ebonol", "richlite", "rocklite", etc, an they'll tell you it's paper layered with resin, so it's still at least partially wood. Is a maple fingerboard coated with epoxy to protect it a maple fingerboard or an epoxy fingerboard?
It sounds like you're describing richlite...which I think should replace all the ebony fingerboards out there. It's just better in every way.
I think it's super cool looking! Should be on more guitars. Much prefer it to the grandpa's station wagon looking rosewood

Don't try and fake it, Hunter, I hear that Trivium - Vengeance noodling. Nice going, I'm glad you're enjoying these Epiphone sigs. I feel like Epiphone are really outdoing themselves with unbelievable quality in the 600-1000 price-range I only hope the shaky ground Gibson is treading on doesn't trickle down to them; it would be a shame.

Yeah, it's such a shame that Gibson had to increase Epiphone's prices to make up for what's going on at the mothership. Still great guitars for the money, but not the absolute bargains they were last year.

There is QC is pretty good, but some stuff do slip through the cracks. I bought a tribute plus like two months ago and when i got it one of the knobs wasn't on the guitar and it wouldn't stay on the guitar and few other things that made me return the guitar. I'm not bashing epiphone, it just sucks paying that amount for the guitar and it not be 100% perfect. I will say this, I will be buying another epiphone in the future, those sheratons are too hard to stay away from

I got mine because of this video, and almost a year later, it’s still my number 1 weapon of choice when I want to play guitar. It’s the best feeling AND looking guitar I have ever owned, and it doesn’t hurt that after I bought the guitar, I checked out Trivium and fell in love with the band.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head.
Agufish I personally enjoy it because it deals with themes of existential nihilism in a funny and irreverent way.

+SicSemperBriannis I mean that stuff I get. I took quantum physics and astrophysics, etc in high school. I've just had it on in the background and chuckled a couple times but I don't think it's lived up to the hype.
I don't think it should ever have to live up to any sort of hype. And by hype, i mean the people who say "you need to be super smart" or "it's the absolute best" or the Szechuan sauce fiasco. i think people should be weary or skeptical of ANYTHING that people hype up that hard.
I like it also for touching on cool themes or making fun of other concepts. I give mad props to Justin Roiland for doing both Rick and Morty. The Avengers parody episode is p great with a cameo by Logic. "Israel"...that's all i'm gonna say.
Also, woot woot for Asian representation in the arts!

I really want this guitar, but I am debating whether to get the 6 string version or the 7 string. I am not a complete beginner, but am not “extremely good.” I am looking for an upgrade on my current guitar. Thx
6 string until you feel confident to try 7 :)
if you still have not gotten it yet (which im confident you have) go with the 7 string because it can play as both and you want need to buy snother guitar when you want a seven string guitar

I have 14 Gibson Les Pauls in my collection.....and I have 3 of these Epiphone 7 stringers.....and they have become my go-to EVERYDAY Les Paul's...with a proper setup and New Strings....these guitars put Gibson to shame....if your concern about impressing your friends with a "Brand" and a logo be my guest and give Nashville 5K..personally I have not bought a Gibson since the 90s....and they will NEVER get another dime from me again...I knew the old man personally...I grew up around the corner from his house in Dumont New Jersey at the age of 7....and he NEVER said a bad word about ANYBODY....except Gibson...who sued him for breach of contract 2xs...and a year and a half before he passed....Gibson was AGAIN in litigation and in court trying to sue Redd the 94-year-old legend for the 3rd time...So Karma IS A BITCH...and Gibson deserves EVERYTHING that is coming down on them...they have been manipulating the market and living on their reputation from the 50s and 60s...for 45 years....sorry for the rant folks

I never understood the headstock debate. It's the most important part of the guitar to some people I guess.

I'm not really a metal player but I can see how a familiar feeling guitar with the extra thick string might open some new avenues of experimentation. I'd have to consider this option against maybe a baritone. Or have both.

Ok that guitar looks and sounds sick. But I just don’t think I could bring myself to pay 1k for an epiphone.... Schecter, Ltd, Jackson, etc. all make better guitars for the money (just my opinion)
+Matthew Sengul they're different feeling guitars in my opinion. All the brands you listed make more "modern" feeling guitars, whereas Epiphone (even if they have modern features) feel a lot more traditional.. at least to my hands. I wouldn't say any are better or worse than each other, though LTD is probably the most consistent.

I’d love to hear clips without the precision drive. I think it chokes amps too much, especially music like trivium where they don’t have the staccato djent riffs. I bet it sounds monster with something like a OD808.
I figured i should comment on the EMG's. From what i keep hearing, EMG's are supposed to be played through a tube amp to get the best sound. I've always wanted to try a set of EMG's in a tube amp, but i dislike active pickups tbh. I'm a passive guy through and through, And it's not just because of the battery issue. Whenever i turn down the volume knob just enough on a passive pickup guitar, it actually turns down the gain just enough to get a crunchy or a somewhat clean sound. When i do it with a set of actives, all it does is turn the volume down on the guitar. It doesn't turn down the gain at all. Maybe someday i'll ask my bud if i can play one of his guitars with EMG's through a tube amp to see how it sounds. At the end of the day though bud, what works for you, works for you. Just keep on riffing the best you can. \m/

I never played a 7 string. I struggle with 6. But the tale end of your review makes them pondering as far as versatility. I don't know if I could walk away from a Custom for this guitar. There's a lot of American nostalgia to a white Custom.
I like Epiphone,their headstocks,their range of products. Epiphone guitars are easily one of the best accessible products from Gibson.
Only the old ones have resale, but I rarely get rid of a guitar.

PRS has the shortest scale, that I've found where string tension doesn't become an issue.

There's nothing wrong with a 24.75 inch scale seven string. Tons of guitar players have down tuned on Gibson scale guitars for years. People quit bitching, don't like it, go look at another guitar then.
I own an annihilation II V with a phenolic fingerboard, and while i would say given the option of having a good wood fingerboard such as rosewood or ebony I would take the pure wood fingerboard, the phenolic is still an excellent option that does not impede play and is relatively easy to maintain
Brutal as hell. I need one
Phenolic and Richlite are both GREAT alternatives to wood -- for the haters out there -- consider these pros -- first, unlike wood, they won't warp, expand, shrink, etc. due to changes in climate / temperature. Second, they're a lot easier to keep clean. They also require NO maintenance whatsoever -- no oils or any kind of cleaning products at all. They also won't split or get rough when the air is dry (typically in colder climates). Lastly, they don't require any finish to be put on them -- just sanding and polishing. They of course _can_ be finished, if desired, but it's not a requirement.
IMHO all builders should switch to these types of materials eventually...I'm sick of builders pimping out "exotic" pieces of wood for the fingerboard -- it makes virtually NO difference to the sound of an electric guitar when it's plugged in, and I don't rest comfortably knowing the piece of wood on my guitar came from some endangered species that is being raped and pillaged, along with the environment around it, by people in third world countries for pennies and then sold for large margins on the open market, often times illegally.
Now I want this guitar so bad. I have been listening trivium now and Matt Heafy guitar look bad ass. Nice solo work on the heart from your hate.
very special looking guitar, I still don't know if I love it or not. it makes me think about snow - but no silence here :) - and, with the unholy heat we're having theses days, that's nice. Or do I find it definitely too white and fear I could become blind playing it under the sun ? Anyway it sounds great ! Thanks for this review. Keep going and practice your guitar :)

They look good on pre 70s guitars, but they're pretty meh. But whatevs, a good guitar shouldn't be judged by its headstock
sorry but to me a " good " guitar vs an " i want that guitar " has to do a lot with the looks and that includes headstock ... cheers !!!!

Andrei Garfang Basically, have the same spec. with different color...the only big different it's the phenolic fingerboard instead ebony...for my personal taste I prefer this SnØfall Les Paul...badass guitar! I never tried this type of phenolic fingerboard but once I tried some Aristides guitars which are made with artificial materials...I didn't notice any differences...

That said, one of the issues I've run into with 25 1/2 scale 7s is the low B is too loose and the high E is too tight. I feel a reversed 0/7 headstock is the way to go to fix both, your thoughts on this? As far as other 7s you might possibly try in the future, maybe Coery's Jackson to go full Trivium or to stick with singles, the LTD EC407B?

That's why I will never buy a white guitar. It sucks cause I think white guitars look best but they look awful when they age.
Nothing sexier than an aged white guitar
The poly finishes on Epiphones don't age like the nitro on Gibsons. It will take a LONG time for it to show any signs of aging.. if it shows any at all. I bought my Epi G400 Custom 12 years ago, and it's just as Alpine White today as the day I bought it.
I have a white Peavey Impact with a poly finish, made in the USA nearly 30 years ago. It is still as white as snow (ha). I suppose if you leave any guitar out in the sun, it would change color. But mine is in a hard case.
