The Namiki family's clothing color is red, and the Noguchi family's is blue. When red and blue are mixed, they become purple, and the flower Harumichi is holding is a purple lilac, which means "first love".
The reason the series is so amazing is because it is not just about a simple first love. It's about childhood crushes, motherly sacrifices, navigating being a man in late 20th century, effects of separation and so much more. It is life in 9 episodes, and all our first loves within it.

I cannot describe how much I love this series. The true art. The true masterpiece. Every character is portrayed perfectly and I'm in awe to see just how much the actors and the creators put their hearts and souls while creating this beautiful, BEAUTIFUL work of art. For me, First Love is indeed the Netflix's highlight of 2022.
@@creativepicnlI did too because they were playing the full ending credits and didn’t have a skip option until the very end. I’m glad there was one more episode, but I think this would have been a powerful ending too. 😢
This is the most modern Japanese Drama I’ve ever seen. True craftsmanship from writing, acting, cinematography, editing, set locations, and to costume design (notice the use of colors throughout). And they truly captured what falling in love as kids back in the 90s. The story has no loose ends. I can’t believe this dorama even exists as it is soooo good. And a special treat for fans of classic 90s Jpop
I got really engrossed with the world built in this show. I wanted to know if Yae reconnected with her best friend, confronts her half sister, or telling her mom that she remembers Hachimaru.
I just finished watching the film and it made me feel different kinds of emotions. I just hope Netflix will release more masterpiece like this one. I love the ending, how it left the viewers thinking what happened next, or what Yae's story from the very first start since we already know Harumichi's. Utada's song hits different when it boomed during your childhood.
This was my first J-drama I ever watched and just like the title, it truly is a first love. More than a romance, it navigates the nuances of adolescence, growing up and apart, motherhood, social stigma, and the connections that exist deeper than our memories can recall. Each episode did not miss a beat, expect tears to be shed with the beautiful execution of the acting in this show. Highly recommend for those looking for a renewed passion in life.
I just love it that the very first line of the series goes like "someone has said, that life is like a jigsaw puzzle.", and that's how they presented the whole series, these mini flashbacks as the puzzle pieces, to have the full understanding of the characters relationahips.

And the last episode is where they finally met because of fate. It’s all cascading from the 8th episode and you can actually segment it and for me, whatever ending fits. Ofc I was hoping for the true series ending where they lived together. But imagine if they didn’t, its painful but more realistic and I would still love it.

I have seen it 5 more times and still cry all the time, even tho I know how it ends! Watch it you too, I'm sure you won't regret it! And be prepared, have many tissues by your side. Dear Netflix I hope we got more Japanese movies and series here in Canada! We love the plot of first love Takeru Satoh always delivered his best from Rurouni Kenshin series and movies to Kamen Rider to First love his so outstanding together with his co actors Hikari Mitsushima , Rikako Yagi and the young harumichi! And of course never the less the Theme-song Firstlove of Hikaru Utada wow the best! ❤ again 10/10 rate in 🇨🇦
I hve been a fan of “First Love” and “Automatic” by Utada Hikaru since it debuted. It was my National Anthem up until now, I still play it. The moment I saw this on Netflix, I know it would be good as Takeru Satoh has been the actor who also played Rurouni Kenshin. The series was masterfully and beautifully done as every episode pierced through my heart. My husband is not a fan of Asian movies specially Romance or RomComs but this time he watched it wilfully with me and I really appreciated it. I’m so overwhelmed on Yae’s and Harumichi’s love story that people felt their young love and reminisce the times when it was all love and happiness. I’m so thankful they’ve relived the song thru a Heartfelt Series.
You should be emotionally prepared if this is your first Japanese romantic drama. I have been traumatized by so many of them (tv shows, movies, and video game plots) for months if not years and I can't quit watching, You have been warned.
The most beautiful series ever... i cried since first episode till end. I can’t describe my feeling right now after binged it in one night. Love it love it love it...

this series shows true and pure love. are you willing to fight for your love even your past memories with her fades away . i also learned that you have to be true to yourself . because if you choose the person who wants you over the person you wanted, you'll hurt yourself and hurt the person who loves you. even though it sounds selfish and one sided love,
People, you’ve gotta watch this. In case you’re wondering, Please do watch it, trust me this one hits home. Finally a drama which isn’t stupid or lengthy at all. Go ahead enjoy!
I had saved this series for a rainy day literally! I binged watched through this last night and I was sobbing and smiling a lot. Its one of the best series I have watched in a while in this genre.
I have watched a lot of Japanese dramas on other websites and on Netflix, but this has to be the most beautifully written, acted and well shot Japanese drama. It reminded me a lot of 'Forrest Gump' where fate makes them meet and separate and the historical/important events that took place between 1997 to 2022 which is woven in the story perfectly. The teenage/younger couple's love story impressed me more while their adult lives showed the real world struggles and how the 'first love' still remained an integral part of their adult lives. The flashbacks were not out of sync and added context to the story. Mostly Japanese dramas have some weird themes or scenarios but this drama seems to have been written in such a way that appeals to the global audiences. It's a wonderful emotional journey about a love story that stood the test of time and hardships of life. I would really recommend people to watch it if you are the romantic kind. I rate this series 10/10.

Agree with you! Since young I watched a lot of jdramas too! They all have that super dumb girl that falls for a handsome/popular or playboy guy and they all have (most of them( the same themes) not to mention their exaggerated acting) This one....by far exceed my expectations. Their acting is not "forced". I think it was pretty natural. In all these years I've never saw a drama like this! Started to watch not expecting much but guess what? I am surprised by the quality. I feel like I want MORE! Two thumbs up! More stories like this that everyone can relate to. Kudos to all the cast and writer of the series! And also just wanted to share my own love story, I'm just so happy that ended up with my one true love! We got acquainated during our freshmen years in college and we've became girlfriend and boyfriend during our senior (last year) years in college then "secretly eloped" months before we graduated. 🤭 It's exciting and we really fought for our love and relationship even though my mother was against our relationship. And now, 16 years of marriage, we have our ups and downs along the way, but still the love continues to burn for each other! 🥰

I'm watching this trailer for the 50th time❤The concept of first love is just beautiful in its own way. Every person have had their first love in their life, just thinking about that time, that moments makes me so emotional. Like how can something so beautiful exist? But as we grow up we see the reality of this world and in this real world nothing like that exists. There no more innocence, sincerity, sacrifices you'll find in love. I wish I could go back in time and just stop it where my most beautiful moments exist but I can't, I just can't.

I watched this series because was inspired by 2 musics of Utada Hikaru, a singer I listen since I was a teenager, and have no regrets! What a beautiful and touching story! I have seen it 5 more times and still cry all the time, even tho I know how it ends!
Watch it you too, I'm sure you won't regret it! And be prepared, have many tissues by your side. You're gonna need it!
I have been traumatized by so many of them (tv shows, movies, and video game plots) for months if not years and I can't quit watching, You have been warned.
please share your top few series/movies!
@Himanshu Sharma Hana Yori Dango
Don’t watch 1 liter of tears
@nemo pororo On Netflix? I recommend A Silent Voice and Your Name
Tokyo love story
"Every moment is a unique piece of the jigsaw puzzle of our lives. But what happens if we end up losing an important piece of it?"
The most beautiful series ever... i cried since first episode till end. I can’t describe my feeling right now after binged it in one night. Love it love it love it...
Japan's hidden gem! Hits you right to the core 😭..just soooo happy that it's not a tragic ending! Absolutely 10/10!
This is such a tear jerker, emotional rollercoaster from start till end and also a pleasure to my eye to watch. Beautiful visuals omfg!!
I just finished it and it was my first jdrama . WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STORY IVE LOVED EVEY SECOND OF IT

@@fionan7311 Thank youu for the recommendations
@dylanrodrigues i will . do u have any recommendations
Love seeing drama that are so realistic.. No drama just pure
I can't believe I just finished the series now. Everything's perfect! Cast, music, plot, cinematography! The feeling it gives you to remember your first love. Lovelots from the Philippines!
I just watched this and still cant get over it. I bawled like a baby
After watching the series just came here just to give comments. Trust me this series is so good.
this series shows true and pure love. are you willing to fight for your love even your past memories with her fades away . i also learned that you have to be true to yourself . because if you choose the person who wants you over the person you wanted, you'll hurt yourself and hurt the person who loves you. even though it sounds selfish and one sided love,
This show represented relationships so well. So beautiful
Everything about this series is amazing this is my first Japanese series. Its perfect.❤
The power of Utada Hikaru's songs my heart 🥺
I love this show so much. The flashback scenes really made me bawl 🥹
Kim Chaewon covered this song.
This show deserves so much more recognition!
Utada Hikaru's First Love still makes me cry til this day.
Just finished watching this series. Super duper love it! And the OST 'First Love' 🥲 brings back memories ❤️🥺
I am getting goosebumps nonstop rewatching this .. one time is not enough.. got to rewatch to catch all the hidden clues and surprises.. 😢❤❤❤😢
Takeru Satoh 🥰
People, you’ve gotta watch this. In case you’re wondering, Please do watch it, trust me this one hits home. Finally a drama which isn’t stupid or lengthy at all. Go ahead enjoy!
@lol idk GREAT!
Imma watch it now yay- the overview looked great tho
@@lolidk9463its heartwarming.. dont worry its a happy one :)
Loved it. Brilliant storyline, complex feelings and such an edgy way of cinematography. Highly recommend it!
I had saved this series for a rainy day literally! I binged watched through this last night and I was sobbing and smiling a lot. Its one of the best series I have watched in a while in this genre.
One of the most beautiful series about love, that I have seen recently. Period.
Kim Chaewon covered this song.
Very well written and directed. Sobrang gagaling ng mga artista. Napakarealistic lang. Di lang iyak to. Hagulhol talaga.
that rooftop kiss scene is just so dang beautiful it should be illegal!!
Please recommend similar shows if you have any. I loved this one, would love to watch other dramas(korean/Japanese etc.) like this one
@@rasikayadav2376 All are Japanese (I don't enjoy Korean dramas)
Following aretge Japanese movies and dramas
Tomorrow I will date yesterday's you, One Week Friends, Good Morning Call, Rich Man Poor Woman, Sky Of Love, Daytime Shooting Star, Kimi ni todoke, , my teacher, your lie in April
Agree with you!
Since young I watched a lot of jdramas too! They all have that super dumb girl that falls for a handsome/popular or playboy guy and they all have (most of them( the same themes) not to mention their exaggerated acting)
This one....by far exceed my expectations.
Their acting is not "forced". I think it was pretty natural.
In all these years I've never saw a drama like this! Started to watch not expecting much but guess what? I am surprised by the quality. I even cried!
Not to mention Utada Hilary's songs. Wow! I used to hear a lot and watch the MV on TV. It was the perfect touch to add that "feeling" to the drama. 🥲
Highly recommend this!
IZ*ONE covered this song. Kim Chaewon covered the song again now as part of Le Sserafim.
@@rasikayadav2376it’s an older drama, but one of the best of all time. Try to watch Sekai no Chuushin de Ai wo Sakebu
It’s also about a first love that spans decades, where the man can’t forget her. It’s beautiful, extremely well written, and I’ve never sobbed so hard during a show.
Japanese dramas always have that slice of life, that's what I love about it. Not exaggerated and too good to b true love story.
Masterpiece, no cap! It was one of the best series I've ever watched. Everyone should have watched it.
Very highly recommended! Love story is not actually my kind of thing, but for me, this is the best love story and probably one of the best series of all time and that includes other genres.
There's one thing in the whole world that i would never get bored of. "Love". If I had never loved, I'd have never lived. Heart breaks are part of it, but it all worth the ride. Love is a wonder.
Good series that doesn't need glamorous stuff, rich lead roles, and perfect facial skin. Simply the best
I Just finished binge-watching this series on Netflix and I must say it is a breathe of fresh air for me! This is my first time actually seeing a Japanese drama, I am more on watching Japanes animes be it love story, action or fantasy. But this one, I REALLY LOVE! I love how realistic the storyline, their acting are on point and anyone can relate with series! Love the places featured as well!
It's just kinda sad that it's only 9 episode and 1 season.
It's exciting and we really fought for our love and relationship even though my mother was against our relationship. And now, 16 years of marriage, we have our ups and downs along the way, but still the love continues to burn for each other! 🥰
I just watched the first episode. Story wise, I can somehow relate, then add the songs, specially First Love and Automatic brings back all the memories which made me shed a tear. I think I will love the whole series. I'm gonna go check episode 2 now.
I cannot wait for this!! All time favorite songs too!! I wonder how many episodes will there be
Show or series?
9 episodes👍
@@sober4932 you're the best thanks
I watched all episodes one day. Because I couldn't stop it. 😭
Taisei Kido became everyone’s first love because of this series. A great one to end 2022. One of the best ever 💕👏🏻
I am tearing up with just a trailer. That's a foul, making a grown man cry
this is one of the few series that makes me ugly cry from start to finish. i cried so hard at episode 8 bcos i thought that is the end of it 😭😭
Yeah I felt that for quite a minute. The credits were rolling and the next episode button didn’t appear. Was in a bit of a shock there. 🥹
@@creativepicnl my brain was like “bruh, they need closure stfu this can’t be the end of it! she got back her MEMORIES” then i proceed to ugly cry wetting my pillows. i watched it twice and i still cried so hard when the song rolled 😂
this movie and the song is great, thank you so much
this drama is so beautiful and touching. i love every part of it..
I love how the flashbacks are captured in the beauty of film.❤️❤️❤️
Masterpiece 10/10 writing. Harumichi and yae top tear acting work bringing that story to life holy hell
idk but this series is so nostalgic for me (maybe because of the soundtrack "First Love" which is famous here in the Philippines in my elementary days) Also, Takeru Satoh's acting will never be disappointing, he's such a legend ❤️
Other than "1 Litre of Tears", this is the second series that I feel touch with tear.
Utada HIkaru's song is so perfect for this series.
both songs inspired this whole series
I love this series it should be in Oscar 🎥🏆 this story touch every aspect of life lots of love.
The Scene When She Gains Her Memories Back GOT ME😭🙏🏽
Really loved it. It touched me from the core. It's a must watch. Though the end is a bit dramatic comparing to how the series goes on from the start, I kinda liked it. They deserve to be together again. ❤️
Looking forward to Nov 24. Can't believe that I've lived thru the 2 Hikaru Utada's songs.
😭😭😭😭😭 this is one of the best!!!! Sooooooll much heart !!!
Before you watch the trailer, my advice is to not watch the trailer. Just go right into the series. Watching everything unfold is so magical.
The story is just so beautiful. I love it so much. It popped up in my TH-cam recommendations and I just had to watch it. First love is really something
Watch the credits....there's a bonus scene at the end😍
