Thanks for watching the video! Been on Instagram for so many years, so decided to compile the dumbest comments we see on a regular basis in the comment sections and coach kids using those tactics.
This was a fun project to do because there are so many people wanting to have the answers and state them with the utmost simplicity in comment sections and have them pass it off as "helpful." It is in no way, shape or form helpful to tell a kid he should have just hit him or poke checked him. It is not accurate to say if a kid looks down, they'll get bodied. I post the vast majority of my videos from NHL footage and it is stunning how little people are paying attention to what is going on at the pro level when discussing development at the minor level. The answers are not simple. Every situation is different. To create a framework for these kids to develop in, we must be more thoughtful in our approach to development. Poke check and hitting works. It is not easy, it doesn't work 100% of the time, and often times can unnecessarily take you out of a play or make you overcommit. Looking up all the way down the ice in small area battles is not beneficial, hence why NHL players don't do it. It's a mix of looking up and down. The situation determines it. The game is not played 100% up or 100% down.
If I can give any advice to anyone developing or in a coaching position, it would be to not approach development as an "all or nothing" topic. The game is not black and white. There is a lot of grey area in the game, and they are worth exploring.

Everytime I do an off ice video on synthetic ice 😂. That stuff makes so much noise and I am told it's because I'm chopping lol. Gotta be careful with the puck!

Absolutely love this! Play in a beer league against buddies who always say things like "I'd like to see you try those toe drags if hitting was allowed, you'd be on your ass!" Okay, but then why did you bite on the fake and end up facing the corner? Hard to check someone when you're not facing the play anymore....just saying..... This video cracked me up!! Man the comment section in hockey videos can be just so stupid. Well done!
haha yeah. After a while you learn that these people usually make these comments because they don't have the ability. So you have all these big, out of shape and or unskilled people saying they'd just hit you. This is their "justification" for why they never practice those skills. Sucks because they get left behind, never get better, and don't have as much fun. Especially in non contact leagues where most of em play where....there's no hitting? LOL

This was hilarious! 😂 I've never been on IG period but I can just imagine what it's like -- just go to any junior game in any sport and there's always that one parent. This video is a great illustration of why the majority of people (i.e., parents) should not be coaches, especially coaching children and young adults. The problem is never the coaches, or the refs, or the players ... it typically comes from the armchair critics, aka, the parents. Message to Parent: You're not out there playing so just shut your trap and let the kids enjoy themselves and develop at there own pace and to their own level rather than constantly criticizing everyone around you.

As a 49 year old hockey beginner( only 1.5 years at stick n puck...rat hockey...) and a figure skater of 10 years......I see the sarcasm in this and it TEACHES me what IS good to do!!!!
And hell yeah....I do puck tricks... And they WILL HELP YOU in different ways....
I can do the Zorro(basic swoop and then between the legs...but not the full body rotations with the blade just above the ice...in the air...) and i HAVE used this to score against neginners...less skilled then me.
I can now ' stir the soup'....( Clifford.Wells' move.. originated from Zorro.. he's my coach in Evanston, IL.. at Robert Crown Ice ice center).

Savage. Love this vid! Way to call out all the keyboard warriors in a creative and quirky way. I would bet cash that 75% of those ridiculous comments are from people who don't even play hockey. The other 25% are people with a bad taste in their mouths from being "cut," "dropped" "injured" or simply let themselves go, and/or just had no natural talent for the sport. 😂

Playing simply and not making too much risk is a truth. Even Pavel Datsyuk said so "you need to keep the puck away from defense man, doesn't matter how you do it and not make too much risk" I personaly dangle only when there is no other option.
