While I agree mostly with the statement about gamer discourse being too extreme and quick to judgement; the gamers didn’t create this climate the games industry did. 2:12:55 This happens most of the time with shows. Look up viewers numbers for any season of something like The Walking Dead. They don't get cancelled just because viewership drops off. Colin has been covering Japanese games for so long but never made effort to get the pronunciations right. Its actually quite easy. All vowels ALWAYS keep their sound regargless of what comes before or after it: a - 'ah', i - 'ee', u - 'ooh', e - 'eh', o - 'oh'. So Onimusha would sound like: "Oh-nee-mooh-shah". Mario would be "Mah-ree-oh". And of course Ninja "Gah-ee-deh-n" If would be so nice for him to try this method of reading Japanese names and game titles.
@hododod246 Yeah I know, I'm just saying that's how they would say it in Japanese. Funny enough, most if not all Latin languages also pronounce the vowels like this.
Colin saying TLoU Part II is a top 5 of all time game for him might be the most insane statement he's ever made and there's been a few to choose from over the years! Mega Man 3, Wild Arms, Castlevania: SotN, Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario World, BioShock, the first TLoU...what's making way for it?!
Brad you have no idea how complicated Pokémon actually is, and it's all behind the scenes. Most casual players would have no idea, but there's a reason why your stats increase more in some stats than others when you level up and it has to do with spending hidden 'attribute points' that you get from fighting each pokémon in the game. It's actually wild how much math there is that goes into making each pokémon competitively viable. It's a series that is simple on the surface, and remains simple to 95% of the playerbase, but that 5% are theorycrafting hard and coming up with fresh strats to try and shape the new meta anytime a new game drops.
I really do think Colin needs to chill with the Naughty Dog glazing. I get it, he likes the the studio and their games, but he needs to realize that a significant percentage of the population doesn’t give a shit about or even actively dislikes their games and their style. I don’t know why it seems impossible for him to grasp this concept. And this doesn’t seem like the typical “different strokes for different folks” mentality he would otherwise have for other things. He genuinely seems to be baffled by the very concept that a lot of people don’t value these games.
Yeah I'm surprised he cannot see his own bias here more clearly, though he did say he is a ND fanboy. But even to say "I don't think another studio has had a run like Uncharted to TLOU as GOTY contenders every game" - FromSoft would like a word, since Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring are all GOTY contenders and sometimes winners, with higher metacritic scores than ND and better sales. But they're not for him, and not for me tbh either, but you can't deny the appeal and the focus on tight gameplay, whereas ND's focus is on a more linear, fixed experience with high quality story telling. If you don't care about movie quality story telling in your games, then ND don't offer that much really. There's no choice, little variety in gameplay, and generally little interactivity in their games. I love them, but you gotta see why others don't value that one aspect so highly.
@ Yea, the problem is as you mention their games are highly reliant on production value, and he seems to conflate “high production value” with “high quality” and that’s just simply not how I and many other people few the “quality” of a game. You can have all the production value in the world, but if the story and writing is flawed (which imo Last of Us 2 was) and the gameplay isn’t special (it isn’t for Last of Us), then a lot of people aren’t going to find that much value in these games, and in turn they aren’t going to be the obvious “games of the year” he seems to think everyone automatically should believe.
I occasionally talk about games with my brother in law and some of his friends. They aren't at all aware of the vast majority of the social media gaming discourse so a lot of the buzzword bullshit never comes up. It's so refreshing. Lol
1:39:39 "It needs to be checked" Colin's against free speech now. Fascinating "I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was funny" The Intergalactic trailer was clearly trying to be funny too, with her overly dry, sarcastic dialogue. That kind of millennial writing is SO OLD.
She was just talking as a bounty hunter would. I don't see why people are so bothered by this. Nathan Drake was quippy and snarky too. It's just Naughty Dog's style. It really isn't a big deal and we should at least see more of the game before it starts to bother you.
@@dtanobo I think it's more that gamers are looking for a different type of protagonist. We've had enough of the "too-cool-for-this "girlboss archetype over the past decade. That's old and lame now. Instead of surprising us, Naughty Dog gave us exactly what we were all expecting them to do. I've lost interest in them as a studio
Colin is right about Naughty Dog, they haven’t released a sub 90 metacritic full game since 2007. They get the full benefit of the doubt. Nobody is as consistent as them.
They have consistently released top quality, industry defining technical products. If games are "art" and have political messages attached and the creators are outspoken politically, the audience will judge the art according to their own views.
Yep. You can lock in Intergalactic right now as a GOTY contender in the year it releases. It may not win, but it will be nominated with most outlets and the game awards. I still think about that internal Microsoft review of TLOU Part 2 where they say something like “this is above and beyond what any other developer is doing on pc and console and we have nothing close to it” lol
I’ve seen a lot of comments on the matter and I’d love to disagree with them but Colin is incredibly biased towards Naughty Dog. He sounds like Jaffe complaining about why people don’t like something. They just don’t like it for various reasons. Boiling down every criticism to wanting sex appeal for the protagonist seems like the opposite of the measured conversations Colin has. I feel like the culture war has broken his brain just like the people he is talking about. He hijacks the Indiana Jones convo to talk about some random dude on Twitter most of us don’t even know or care about. I liked TLOU2 a lot. This trailer was bland and looked emblematic of a lot of games from western developers. I don’t care what the protagonist looks like in a vacuum either. I just feel like he’s contributing to the lack of nuance when I feel like we should ignore the idiots on both sides but be able to talk about games from various perspectives. We don’t have to dilute every argument to the extremes we see online. I come to LSM to escape that. The guy wrote in with a genuine criticism without speaking on sexuality and Colin does what the internet does and hijacks his argument.
He's talking about the sex appeal thing because that's been the most loud discussion around the game on social media, and it needs calling out. It's ridiculous. I also think it's a little silly to make comparisons to Concord or GotG from a 3 minute teaser, it just comes across as having a painfully narrow knowledge of media. It's like the 'guy who has only seen boss baby' meme saying every movie reminds him of boss baby.
@@madsines5301 But by giving oxygen to these discussions he’s perpetuating them. Whenever I see a nonsense bad faith argument like Ciri isnt hot or aloy needs make up, I ignore it. When a more nuance argument, like Concord’s art or Life is Strange Trigger warnings, are presented, I think those are more worthwhile discussions. He just needs stop engaging with the bad faith actors
@@Saber_of_Truth Yeah, I feel you. I'm getting to the point where I'd straight up just rather not hear about it either, it's exhausting. I miss when the most heated discussions about gaming were what game in a series was better, or which gun was more OP.
Indiana Jones next year, on PS5 with dualsense controller implementation. Plus Judas. It's great we're finally getting some decent first-person immersive adventure games this console generation. We need a new Deus Ex and Dishonored.
13:20 we can always count on our tech illiterate boy Colin to misrepresent reality and overemphasize exceptions whenever it comes to physical media. Just say you want people to be locked on PSN already.
Colin is willing to bat against physical media every chance he gets but he doesn't understand how bad a digital only gaming environment could mean. I think people who defend physical media are the people who know what owning a game entails for the consumer
@@dtanobo Saying the people who defend physical media automatically know what they are talking about is ridiculous. Physical isn't going to save us here as it can and will be as locked down as digital media. What is needed is better consumer protection for all types of media, a legal guarantee of actual ownership. An actual solution to our problem would mean digital would be no worse than physical. On PC there is less of an issue because part of the problem is solved by the fact that the platform itself isn't locked down, meaning there are competing stores. We have the issue of DRM to solve. DRM affects physical media too, but on PC we unofficially have the possibility to crack the games giving us a way around it. When there is the possibility of competition on the market place as well as no DRM, how is digital still a problem? With no DRM you can put a digital game on any physical media you wish. Call out sony for locking down their console, call out publishers for pushing DRM. That's what we should be talking about, not digital vs physical BS that solves nothing at all.
Listening to Colin being 40 and aggressively defending his use of strategy guides creates one thought in my mind and that’s “I can’t fucking believe this is one way to become a millionaire”.
also, speaking of gameplay or story... nobody played final fantasy 8 for its "gameplay" that is for sure. the story&characters was everything in that game.

This lame culture war nonsense has rotted people's brains so they need to listen to some TH-camrs for their opinions rather than being adults who can form their own by playing a game when it's actually out.
Agreed. Colin is on point with the comparisons to classic 80s sci fri tropes, which seems to be what Naughty dog is going for. Alien, Terminator, Blade runner, Akira, etc. It's baffling how people can't see that
I will say this any chance I get. I never understood the weird response to TLOU Part 2. I understand that people have their opinions and feelings, but it’s a fictional story. No matter your opinion on the actual content of it, it’s a story that you as a player don’t have control over. I guess I never really had that much of an attachment and I actually loved the character people hate.
colin, idgaf if it's naughty dog or some ubisoft. Overwhelmingly people don't think that trailer was cool lol, for some but for a lot of us it has nothing to do with her race. We don't need hot characters, it just looks cringe and not cool. It's even worse than being ugly... to be lame lol
For one of the comments, I've preferred story/narrative/writing form/dialogue over gameplay for my entire life, and will always be that way for my enjoyment. Gameplay rarely ever pulls me forward to stay in a game for any decent time. An HD-2D Pokemon game would look way better visually than whatever they've been doing the last few years, that's for certain. I wonder though if HD-2D art design takes much longer to produce than their more barebones 3D models/rigging. If the HD-2D pixel art does take a much longer time to make then they would likely push that idea away especially if they have a certain cadence they prefer because of monetary gain consistently. It would be a great single test project though, just see how it performs and compare it relative to the 3D games production time.

While I agree mostly with the statement about gamer discourse being too extreme and quick to judgement; the gamers didn’t create this climate the games industry did. The last 5 years the industry has been shoving their ideology into their games and this has trained the potential customers to look out for these markers. This could also be a product of cross markets and similar outcomes from those other sectors.
THANK YOU
The argument about using guides was hilarious!
Funny story about Triangle Strategy, I played back in 2022 then this year I recommended to my older brother because he loved Final Fantasy Tactics. He tried it out and then he decided to look for his PSP repair it so it could read the discs and play Final Fantasy Tactics
He wanted his FF tactics back and not Triangle Strategy
Nice Konami shirt Colin. 😎
Colin talking about how Intergalactic couldn't possibly miss reminds me a great deal of when he was saying the same thing about Starfield before it's release.
True. Nothing is for certain!
Except Naughty Dog makes better games than Bethesda.
@@ScaryPeet That's an opinion silly goose. Some people like Colin prefer naughty dog while others like Matty prefer Bethesda. Neither one of them is wrong it just depends on what games you prefer.
All of that is beside the point though it doesn't matter how good the devs or their past games were they can still fuck up the new thing.
@@InMaTeofDeathIf you ask Matty which developer he is more excited by right now. It's probably much much closer than it was 10 years ago. That goes to show how far Bethesda has fallen.
@@Pswayze23 Indeed I agree that they've fallen further but imo that's because they've had more time to get that bloated. My perspective is where Bethesda already went too close to the edge of the cliff and fell off Naughty Dog is still on that path right on the edge of the cliff and now we're waiting to see which way they go. Personally I'm surprised FROMSOFT didn't come up as they've released more beloved games in the last 10 years than Bethesda or Naughty Dog at a much faster rate than both of them.
Why does Brad keep calling Piplup Pillup😂😂
Metaphor runs fine on steam deck. You do need to cap the framerate to like 45 fps though.
2:09:05 Go Micah! You tell him. Far Cry 6 better than Metaphor Re:Fantasia. Hell no!
Onimisha 4's subtitle was Dawn of Dreams.
Okay she gave Ocarina a try and played a good amount. Utmost respect to Micah for that.
Micah’s so cool and right-on about a lot of things (gaming 😂). Actually, no, all three of you are hella cool. Run with this lineup more often
1:19:23 Maybe if you smoked less weed? 😅
2:12:55 This happens most of the time with shows. Look up viewers numbers for any season of something like The Walking Dead. They don't get cancelled just because viewership drops off.
Also, sales are king. Publishers of singleplayer games don't care about time played. Only that you bought the game and you'll buy the next one.
2:09:42 I hate to say it, but I finally decided to give FC6 a chance, and it's actually great! Such a huge step up from FC5, and maybe the best Far Cry yet.
i played them all, 6 is the worst imo
11 is a prequel to 3, which is a prequel to 1 and 2. Why wouldnt you start with 11?
Colin has been covering Japanese games for so long but never made effort to get the pronunciations right. Its actually quite easy. All vowels ALWAYS keep their sound regargless of what comes before or after it: a - 'ah', i - 'ee', u - 'ooh', e - 'eh', o - 'oh'.
So Onimusha would sound like: "Oh-nee-mooh-shah". Mario would be "Mah-ree-oh". And of course Ninja "Gah-ee-deh-n"
If would be so nice for him to try this method of reading Japanese names and game titles.
Mario is not Japanese dude. It is a European name.
@hododod246 Yeah I know, I'm just saying that's how they would say it in Japanese. Funny enough, most if not all Latin languages also pronounce the vowels like this.
I cringe how they pronounce Akira
3:11:42 as a pokemon, and an adjective lol
the brad colin myka combo is goated
Shout out to the Dredg mention!🤘🏾🎶🎄
Colin saying TLoU Part II is a top 5 of all time game for him might be the most insane statement he's ever made and there's been a few to choose from over the years! Mega Man 3, Wild Arms, Castlevania: SotN, Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario World, BioShock, the first TLoU...what's making way for it?!
Micah is a bad ass 😊
3:21 What are they, the caterers from Father of the Bride!?
So funny when Micah and Colin argue and how Micah is right most of time lol
4 years later and the TLOU2 glazing persists
Brad grass is good against rock and ground too
I occasionally talk about games with my brother in law and some of his friends. They aren't at all aware of the vast majority of the social media gaming discourse so a lot of the buzzword bullshit never comes up. It's so refreshing. Lol
When Micah said “ nice wooden sign” I thought she meant the Christmas tree 🎄 because you never know with Micah.
Colin got some wild takes. He's the poster child for why achievements and trophy hunting makes gaming weird these days
1:39:39 "It needs to be checked"
Colin's against free speech now. Fascinating
"I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was funny"
The Intergalactic trailer was clearly trying to be funny too, with her overly dry, sarcastic dialogue. That kind of millennial writing is SO OLD.
I don’t think that trailer was trying to be funny at all, Ilit gave me more of a suspense/adventure vibe
She was just talking as a bounty hunter would. I don't see why people are so bothered by this. Nathan Drake was quippy and snarky too. It's just Naughty Dog's style. It really isn't a big deal and we should at least see more of the game before it starts to bother you.
@@dtanobo Really? Have you met a lot of bounty hunters?
@rpg_haven have you? They're just not typically portrayed as the most jovial and social bunch.
4th gen pokemon did the attack and special split.
Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man are SO much harder than any souls game. Imo
Hear me out, if colin loses get a custom made headband with the kinda funny logo that has a mark through it😂
6:32 - You shut your mouth, Moriarty! I love my little baby Xbox (Series S)!! 😂
Very excited that The Game Kitchen is doing the new Ninja Gaiden. Blasphemous 2 is absolutely goddamn brilliant. Has Colin still not played it?
Micah! Didn’t you play Link’s Awakening?!?!?! A … um … GAMEBOY game! 🤣🤣
What say you?!?
Colin is right about Naughty Dog, they haven’t released a sub 90 metacritic full game since 2007. They get the full benefit of the doubt. Nobody is as consistent as them.
Facts.
Colin only gives credit to game journalists' opinions and scores when it's convenient.
They've only released two new, full games in over a decade
Damn Colin bailed out before Pokémon Black. The one pokemon game that actually has a good story. Black is a great game
@@madsines5301I still think Micah’s take is the most common and logical one, “let’s wait and see”
That French man might be The Cat Burglar casing houses. Watch out!
Is that why Formicah is always on? Because she's Colin's main squeeze? Good to see nepotism continues to exist everywhere.
speaking of persona 4 the real twist isnt finding out who the killer is, its something way bigger after it...WHICH leads into the true ending.
Intergalactic is gonna be a banger
Vanquish 🔥

Listening to Colin being 40 and aggressively defending his use of strategy guides creates one thought in my mind and that’s “I can’t fucking believe this is one way to become a millionaire”.
also, speaking of gameplay or story... nobody played final fantasy 8 for its "gameplay" that is for sure. the story&characters was everything in that game.
Colin’s Naughty Dog bias is quite something
Newer Pokemon and Fire Emblem tell if your attack is strong against the opponent. You dont have to mark a chart lol
My Lord, what is Micah's problem with Asian people?! I kid, I kid! Love you guys, great show, I actually lol'd SOOO many times during this episode (you 3 can just keep showing up together for Summon Sign from now on, that'd be fine)!! I hope you ALL enjoy your time off over the holidays, get your rest, it's gonna' be a wild 2025 for video games!!! :)
Reddit is mostly excellent, it just sounds like Colin is ignorant to it.
My problem with the Ninja Gaiden game is it isn’t scary. Those first games were in the horror genre. They got the vibes wrong.
Very unfortunate all the hate Intergalactic is getting while the game is not even out yet. Some of this most insufferable people truly exist online.
This lame culture war nonsense has rotted people's brains so they need to listen to some TH-camrs for their opinions rather than being adults who can form their own by playing a game when it's actually out.
Exactly!!
Everyone laughing at Colin for having an American accent and pronunciation. Also everyone: uh-D-das
The game awards taught me that I don’t hate you normies enough.
Also the Venn diagram is people trust Steam and not shitty Sony.
colin, idgaf if it's naughty dog or some ubisoft. Overwhelmingly people don't think that trailer was cool lol, for some but for a lot of us it has nothing to do with her race. We don't need hot characters, it just looks cringe and not cool. It's even worse than being ugly... to be lame lol
The way Colin glazes over Naughty Dog is why I hate lol I can't stand, so fricking pretentious.
