Not sure if it is "better", maybe more relevant to the times and more obvious; less symbolic than the book. Still enjoyed Zacks ending though. it worked.
How? More emotional doesn't make the movie's ending good or whatsoever. Blaming Dr. Manhattan means the USA blaming their weapon which means that the russia should blame them for this. Making Nite Owl II have the perfect character "We're supposed to make the world a better place" ? What? None of watchmen's members are good guys. Again, another ruined point. Not saying that this movie is shit or what, almost perfect but forced since it left a lot of the politic lines because it'd've added up the movie's duration. If it did the characters right, it would be "Very almost perfect"
I agree with Moore's feelings toward his graphic novels becoming film adaptations, but i do feel that Zack tried his best in honoring Alan, by taking a complex narrative with dense grey characters, and a gritty realism that film often cannot translate well, bringing it as close to the books world as possible. There is little that doesn't work in the film, in my opinion. Though, the book was constructed essentially by 2 men and will be different. The thing that i appreciate most is that Snyder is a fanboy who gets to make movies about established characters he loves dearly... tricky situation. I would have been interested in the Book ending though, just for fun.
Watchmen movie ending is better than the graphic novel. Sorry not sorry.

Not really, is more superficial and has plot holes, the ending in the comic works way better
