People keep saying that Izzie's last words were not in her character, but i think that was the point. I think that she knew that is what she had to say so that Mer would let her go. You can see her eyes look so sad after she says that it is no longer her home and then again after meredith says "please don't go". She is trying to cut her ties in hopes that it is less painful for everyone when she does leave (which is actually a very lizzie thing to do because she cares about others so much).
This is still so heartbreaking to me... when Meredith begged Izzie to "please don't go." it was almost like Ellen was actually saying that to Katherine.... I really want her to come back!! It's been too long and I miss Dr. Izzie Stevens.

They had done her character absolutely dirty and that is why Katherine Heigl had issues. Izzie was becoming someone that was not herself, Katherine literally said that and she didn't like how Izzie was becoming selfish... Izzie was the best in season 1 and 2, she was fun, sweet, cared about others and was spunky. They just did her character completely dirty and I know that the writers learned that. Especially now that they gave her a proper ending with children and Alex. I like to think Izzie found herself again like she was before Denny and is super happy on that farm with her kids and Alex where no trouble seems to get by them. I am happy they gave Izzie a proper ending in Season 16 and she is where she is supposed to be with Alex.

If she would've stayed she probably would've been on until the end of S7 or some of S8

So in season 9 she would have been a brillant surgeon, very rude with interns and very professional like Addison, and then in season 10 being there and saying goodbye to Cristina. In season 11 she would be there for Meredith when Derek died, she would have also been a good mother and a perfect aunt for Meredith childrens, even for Callie daughter. I also think that she could have a relationship with Jackson and him being her best friend, a kind of Mark and Callie relationship. In season 12, I think that her reaction after Meredith told everyone that penny killed Derek would have add something. And the writers could have developed a rivalry between Jo and her, with Izzie being very rude even if she’s a sweet person but just with close people. And finally she leaves the Seattle Grace in season 13 after many years working there, many drama, many traumas, many relationships, she leave with her children to New York or Washington for a new jobs and a new life, (but still being friend with Meredith and Alex, and all the others, texting them for Christmas…)

Katherine specifically talked about the storyline with George and Callie as a reason not to participate the Emmy race in the first place and she was absolutely right and participating the Emmy race is not obligatory. And that's why Chandra Wilson publicly defended Katherine for this by saying that she didn't understand why it became an issue in the first place since there were years that she didn't participate the emmy race either because she didn't have the appropriate material. And that happened in season 4. Katherine stayed for 2 more years and she had a contract till season 7 untl she asked to be released sooner from it after the maternity leave that she had in season 6.

Also rumors of Izzie dying in the shooting have been proven false as Shonda said no member of MAGIC was ever gonna die in the shooting and even before Heigl left she never knew what Izzie's plot was gonna be in the shooting

She had a maternity leave and then she asked to be released from her contract sooner like Justin did and she was done with the show and Shonda said in her official interview for the shooting that she had absolutely no idea what she would do with Izzie's character if Katherine never left so please check your facts intead of repeating every b@@@ that you hear from ridiculous Grey's fans

Katherine specifically talked about the storyline with George and Callie as a reason not to participate the Emmy race in the first place and she was absolutely right and participating the Emmy race is not obligatory. And that's why Chandra Wilson publicly defended Katherine for this by saying that she didn't understand why it became an issue in the first place since there were years that she didn't participate the emmy race either because she didn't have the appropriate material. And that happened in season 4. Katherine stayed for 2 more years and she had a contract till season 7 untl she asked to be released sooner from it after the maternity leave that she had in season 6.

Honestly I think it would have been better to kill izzie off in the season 5 finale rather than George. He could have gone into the army and maybe appear every once and a while and izzie's story could have concluded with her getting of her purgatory elevator and going with denny in death

Who Izzie or the actress? Heigl left because she had adopted a child and wanted to focus on her family also she was supposed to return in 6x19 and remain on the show until Season 8 but as i said the actress asked to be released three months prior to her schedule come back and Shonda lied and said Heigl refused to come back to set for 6x19-6x24 when in fact Heigl's contract was already up as per her request. Also rumors of Izzie dying in the shooting have been proven false as Shonda said no member of MAGIC was ever gonna die in the shooting and even before Heigl left she never knew what Izzie's plot was gonna be in the shooting
