I remember watching this when I was 10, thinking there's no possible way we can loose this!!!! And I cried too, I remember balling my eyes out in my friends front room (who by the way was for the Lakers). Give us another year or two and we'll be right back in there with the top 5. Blazers for Life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+Ryan Novoa You are still up by 13 in the 4th. You should be able to close that without the refs help. But you guys missed like 11 shots in a row. Choke job. Period.

The lakers are cowards. They got league assistance to beat the Kings in 2002 and that is a fact ! Now you have to wonder in 2000 if there was league assistance.
The lakers have a permanent shit stain on their legacy because of 2002. The Sacramento Kings are the real champs

The 2000-2004 Lakers were the most exiciting, capitavtating, and dramatic sports team of all time. They had it all the cast of characters was legendary the personailties just had so much charisma, there so many moments, comebacks, game winners. With those teams no deficit was too big to be overcome. It was just something else

I was devastated by that game. I was a hardcore fan when I was little(I'm still a big fan but not quite as devoted). I remember all the Beat LA signs in Portland that year. It was the best rivalry in the NBA at the time. I'm hoping it'll get back to that now with Kobe vs. Roy, Aldridge vs. Gasol, Oden vs. Bynum, etc.

great vid...besides all the highlights i especially like the use of facial expressions to show the tension/ emotion of the game. I remember the big 3s by Shaw, Horry, and Kobe, I remember Shaq's jump hook to take the lead and obviously I remember the alleyoop. But I forgot how awesome the Lakers defense was during the comeback! Those blocks were sick

this had to be one of the top conference finals every. god this happen 9 years ago. the lakers had such good talent in that team. shaq, kobe, horry, shaw, rice, harper, fish, etc... to be able to compete and win over the blazers and kings who at that time who were 2 of the best teams in the nba. i miss that rivalry.

Wallace's comments after the game were classic. He spilled the secret about the NBA's fixing of games which weren't to come out for a few more years. "If we have to lose, then so be it. At least we got to show them we were the better team".

The 02' series wasn't the first or last time Bavetta weighed in on an important game. He also worked Game 7 of the 2000 Western Conference Finals between the Lakers and the Trail Blazers. The Lakers were down by 13 at the start of the fourth quarter when Bavetta went to work. The Lakers outscored Portland 31-13 in the fourth quarter and went on to win the game and the series. It certainly didn't hurt the Lakers that they got to shoot 37 free throws compared to a paltry 16 for the Trail Blazers.

Bryant...TO SHAQ!!!! Definitely one of the greatest sports moments of my life. I remember where I was and what I did when it happened. Watching my little TV alone in my room while the rest of my family was watching downstairs. Couldn't be with them because I was too wrapped up in the game and cursing like a drunken sailor. Screamed and lost my voice whilst jumping up and down repeatedly when it happened. I knew the title was ours. And I was right.

    Excerpt from Tim Donaghy’s Book
In the pregame meeting prior to Game 6, the league office sent down word that certain calls - calls that would have benefitted the Lakers - were being missed by the referees. This was the type of not-so-subtle information that I and other referees were left to interpret. After receiving the dispatch, Bavetta openly talked about the fact that the league wanted a Game 7.

if youre a Laker fan I'm sorry but this game was FIXED! The Blazers were so much better than the Lakers in fact that even though they couldnt hit a shot to save their lives in the fourth quarter they STILL deserved the game and wouldve won if not for the refs (led by the notorious Dick Bavetta). Other games that were fixed: 2002 WCF gm6, much of the 2006 finals, 2005 houston/dallas, 93 WCF gm7, 2010 finals gm7, various knicks/bulls playoff games over the years (especially against Miami or Utah)

  • @joesakic91
    @joesakic91 11 ปีที่แล้ว

But Scottie also had his chances to seal the win or win the game on his own.
He benched himself when Toni Kukoc hit a game-winning shot against the Knicks in the 1993-94 playoffs.
Two games against the Lakers as a Trailblazer. Portland hasn't been the same since that Game 7 meltdown.

...and I fully trust every descision Joe D makes. He has never made a bad descision. He has drafted Stuckey, Prince and Maxiell. Three great picks if you ask anyone. Sure he said that next year's Pistons will look different than this year's, but he is a major reason as to why Detroit has seen 6 consecutive conference finals appearances, even after trading the captain and rebound leader.
And even if a starter goes, the Pistons don't have any superstars so it will effect them very little.

  • @billny33

@Pizuzuzimmer I think it is a meltdown because Portland went so long without a basket (and got plenty of makeable jumpshots too) due to a suddenly very stagnant offensive gameplan, that it would be unlikely for a team of the Lakers caliber to not come back. Portland was practically begging LA to come back with the way they shot from the floor and the foul line. One of the few comebacks I really don't find that impressive when I really watch it.

Refs had nothing to do with the blazers losing this game, during that 15-0 run the Lakers had to tie it up they went to the line only twice! and the blazers missed 10 shots in a row. The free throws didn't start piling up until the final seconds when the blazers had to foul.

@Dbuck951 I know what your saying man this series felt so significant. What I loved about this time period in the league was the rivalries the Lakers had and how it was covered by NBC or the sports media. Maybe it's the interest level, fans of today, marketing, coverage, money, Stern, or us but I don't get the same vibe you were talking about either man. Like this series, or the Kings vs Lakers series felt monumental like Hero vs Villain. Now Magic vs Lakers I could care less who wins.

Yet another game rigged by Stern. The Lakers shot 20 more fts than the trail blazers and Sabonis fouled out on ridiculous calls yet everyone hypes this game up as some great comeback when in fact, it was just another rigged game like the 2002 game 6 vs Sacramento, those few games in the Bucks vs Sixers series of 2001, the 06 finals, 08 finals (in favour of the celtics) and the 10' finals (in favour of the lakers).
Damn I love bball but the nba is so god damn rigged sometimes.

Funny how this is supposedly a 'big melt-down' for the Blazers, but in the NBA, 15-pt. leads on the road isn't that special. The Lakers topped it in this years finals being up 24 in the 1st damn quarter and still blowing it. Had they kept the lead, the finals would have been a completely different story.

"If we give the benefit of the calls to the team that's down in the series, nobody's going to complain. The series will be even at three apiece, and the better team can win Game 7" Bavetta said
As history shows, Sacramento lost Game 6 in a wild come-from-behind thriller that saw the Lakers repeatedly sent to the foul line by the referees. For other NBA referees watching the game on television, it was a shameful performance by Bavetta's crew, one of the most poorly officiated games of all time.

ok, those are very awesome teams and i think it's very debatable. Hell, i think MOST people would agree with you. The thing that i believe that gives the 2000 Lakers the edge is... what could those teams do to stop Shaq? Kobe can guard Michael, Harper can guard Johnson, but neither Kareem nor Longely is going to stop Shaq. The bench is also another thing to take into consideration... 2000 bench>96 Bulls or 87 Lakers.

    Facts of this decade (Spurs-Lakers):
    -3 NBA titles
-Finals appearances LA: 5 SA: 3
    -SA played more post-season series.
-SA won 522 games; LA won 465 games
-SA made playoffs every year... guess who didn't?
-Lowest season win total SA: 53 LA: 34
    -2004-2005 Lakers .415 win %
And The Spurs won an NBA title in 1999 but, according to efjhsdjfasjf, 1999 isn't part of the last 10 years (which is a decade).
So it should be NBA titles:
    SA: 4
    LA: 3
I'm just appeasing the whiny LA fan.

Every single time the Lakers have an impressive win, haters start speaking of conspiracy theories on how they bought the league busted them out. Just admit that the Lakers kick butt and even the Lakers have bad seasons and games, there is nothing suspicious whatsoever. Jerry Buss could easily deal with the league to have him win 7 consecutive titles for crying out loud.

Lakers can't get it done all the time in the Finals. Spurs are 3 for 3 in the Finals this decade.
And the Spurs are STILL the better team this decade. This is proved by their consistency. There hasn't been a season where they won under 53 games.
The Spurs have made the playoffs every season. The 04-05 Lakers boasted a pathetic 34-48 record (.415) without a post-season appearance.
The Spurs are better in this decade as a WHOLE... not just 3 years of dominance followed by 3 horrible seasons.

Well isn't quite obvious why the fans turned their back on him? He left the Lakers to rot foe a few years, and had the nerve to talk smack and dirty towards the Laker organization after all they and the fans had done for him. It's called respect, and Shaq had none of it. Yes, we appreciate his kickass work during 3-peat, but otherwise he is no hero any longer in L.A. In fact, the talk is if whether the Lakers will retire his jersey or not...Personally, I would, but if they don't, no surprise.
