    The Austria-Hungarian government saw how profitable Hamburg was and how many of its emigrants were spending their saving there that they opened the port of Fiume (now Rijeka) on the Adriatic to serve emigrants. My Grandfather emigrated from there in the early 20th century sailing on the Carpathia, the ship that , years later, came to the rescue of Titanic passengers.
