I hate to be _that_ guy, but ACKCHUALLY sword is useless against any kind of plate armor. Maces, morningstars and warhammers (historical ones, not those bloated fantasy mullets) are *extrmely* effective against any plate because they either concentrate enough force to penetrate the plate, or simply make energy bypass the plates to cause severe internal trauma.
Not to mention even if they couldn't penetrate the armor or deliver enough force to cause internal trauma despite the armor, they could still crush the armor at the joints to disable limbs (depending on the variation of plate armor) or even trap a knight in the armor.

Useless is a serious overstatement... Swords have a Pointy End™ than can... get this, go through joints on armor. Sure, a dirk or poignard would be better, a bec de corbin or hammer even better but let's not overcorrect Mr Terry's silly anti-maceism.

Vlad understands history for as long as it benefits him and his world view. When we rewind past Peter the Great, all of a sudden the world history ends.
it's also a very selective interpretation of history. Historical and archeological evidence, as well as the historical narratives of non-Russian people doesn't correspond to how he believes things happened.
A mace is not a terrible weapon. It is a great weapon against a fully armoured knight, better than a sword. Swords, spears, daggers, and axes can all be deflected by armour, you have to navigate the weak points to get a kill. With a mace you just need to hit the armour hard enough so it caves in. So that the armour will kill the warrior wearing it
Not to mention swordsmithing requires a much higher level of skill than making a blunt weapon. A sword with a bad quench may be too stiff and snap easily in combat, or may be too flexible to actually be useful. Much harder to screw up putting a big heavy thing on a stick.
Maces and blunt weapons were more effective agianst opponents wearing heavier armor, where swords would not be as effective.
Another factor is that a poorly-made mace would still do the job, while a poorly made sword won't hold an edge well and will likely snap if improperly quenched. Swords in general were more expensive to make, and a bad sword is worse than no sword on the battlefield. Hard to screw up making a big heavy thing on a stick, though.

6:40 sword-and-board is actually terrible. Besides the expense (swords are mainly only as popular as they are because you had to be nobility to afford them), you have to get right up in the face of the guy you're fighting. A polearm (even a simple spear that was the standard infantry weapon up until guns, and if you count bayonets is still used by the Marines) will keep the swordsman from ever getting close enough to do anything, to say nothing of the sword's inability to cut armor. For all those reasons and more, the correct answer is the bec de corbin, which gives you the range of a polearm with the ability to deliver blunt bonkage as well as pokey stabbage, and in multiple directions. It's a spear, a hammer, a pick, AND a 10-foot-pole all in one. Your basic untrained infantry cannon fodder can use it like a spear, but in the hands of someone who's trained with it all you can do is hope you can fire an arrow faster than he can run to within 4 yards of you.

Honestly my overall thoughts on that interview is that its so absolutely fantastic that we have an entire war going on in Europe because one dude in Moscow is missing his ex, like a Gollum that cant let go of its empire.

Sepia is used in movies in Mexico (and other "wild west" places like Texas and NM) because it fits with the deserty vibe. Obviously, most of Mexico is not a desert, especially the populated regions, but the part that borders the US is, giving many Americans a false impression and keeping the connection between Mexico and desert in the heads of the public and this is reflected in movies. Also, Death Note is a masterpiece. You're missing out on a lot by not watching it.
Sepia tone is visual shorthand in films for "old". Until the 1920s, the most common film processing chemical bath included sepia, giving photos (moving or otherwise) a sepia tone. Color photography was growing in availability during the same period, along with the film industry. So color films were taking over when sepia tone was the look of all photos of the past. It was about like filming with lower red saturation today for a "retro"/70s feel to a movie.

I honestly didn't know Nickelodeon was also broadcasting the game until after the game, I wish I did watch it on there because it would've been a fun take on the game than the regular CBS broadcast.
Just so you know, CBS and Nick share the same parent company Paramount but next year the game will be on FOX, some have said it will return to at least CBS in 2028, but that's just a rumour right now.

Maces were effective vs plate where as swords were less so. Bc of those lovely points, even if it didn't pierce the armor, like dropping a canned drink on a rock, it could still cave in the actual plates. They were effective bc instead of the force being applied to the length of the blade that makes contact, they were almost like a crossbow bolt that spreads out and prevents it from getting embedded and stuck in the armor. The armor protecting the person can quickly become the biggest threat on the battlefield to the person wearing it. And even when it doesn't pierce the armor, it can still generate enough force to break bones beneath the armor. Better yet, they were cheaper to produce and were still highly effective against any form of armor and didn't require years of training to be truly effective like a bow or sword. That said, blunt weapons, like bladed weapons, aren't all as effective as the others. For example, in most battles a maul would be completely worthless as you were using shield walls and fighting tightly packed together, so you couldn't take the big, powerful swings necessary to make use of a maul.
Swords were great, but they weren't 30" razers. A lot of the time they'd have 1 sharp side with sections around the middle of the blade that were semi-blunted so you could grab it w/ your hand in close spaces, pry it free, etc. In a lot of ways, they were functionally a short spear where you could do some damage slashing, but they were still most effective at piercing. We can understand it would be really difficult to safely learn to fight w/ a sword, but then you have to realize one side was intentionally not sharp, a section around mid blade on both sides wasn't sharp and hitting an armored opponent w/ the sharp side of your blade would reduce the effectiveness of it to a very ineffective 2lbs steel club. They were far more complex weapons than people assume. They were doing all sorts of crazy things like having steel edges and iron cores, so the blade itself was durable and flexible, but the iron core made it very rigid and hard and stopped a lot of the vibration from hitting someone in plate armor squarely.
I think typical Western interviews are too fast for typical Western news consumers' attention spans to withstand slower pace Eastern interviews.
Putin even stated, that he isn't interested in making a show, only actual conversation and really wanted to explain history from point of Russian raison de'tat.
I saw this as a bit of stupid and a bit of fairly good points (yes, I must admit we took some lands from Czechoslovaks in 1939, however to call that cooperation with Adolf was a stretch).
Also hot take: Neither Russian nor Ukrainian identity isn't thousand years old. Kievan Rus was simply a federation of all Eastern Slavs with no distinct identity of either one of them until formation of Tsardom of Russia and development of Cossacks.

There are theories and some facts that points to the Vikings more or less created Russia. Some say that Moscow might be an old scandinavian name but I haven't seen much evidence of this but maybe.
To be honest, it doesn't matter to him what people outside Russia believe. The situation on the ground is clear, Ukraine just lost the city of Adiivka yesterday which will no doubt raise the war support in Russia more and there are reports of pressure on every line of contact. Meanwhile, support from foreign nations is dwindling over time due to fatigue, The U.S is stuck in domestic politics and the EU support is still nowhere near the amount that they promised.

@@090giver090 That's false, Putin does know English, he has spoken it many times before in videos and interviews. He chose to speak Russian during that interview because he'll be able to speak more fluently and express his point better.
I believe that people should learn the lessons of history and not repeat the mistakes of the past, but Putin is using history as one of the reasons for war, which seems to me to discredit all historians and their activities.
I really think you should watch videos about historical misconceptions relating to medieval weapons as you seem to repeat a lot of myths

But yeah, for anyone who doesn't know why he was giving this history lesson, it was to do two things: He wanted to establish that Ukraine didn't exist as a real entity until the 90s, and he wanted to explain why there are not see supporters among the Ukr nationalists.

No. I do not think that this point is valid - while yes, all the complexity explains *why* two centers of power formed, what Putin was supposed to do (in his mind) was demonstrate why the center of power at Novgorod (Moscow) was legitimate, and why the center of power in Kiev is not legitimate (in his opinion). He never, ever makes it around to that point, though - and I can only presume that the reason he doesn't make it to that point is because he doesn't actually have evidence supporting it.

He claims that Poland wants parts of Ukraine for itself, and that Ukraine is also just some bordergore Austria made up as they were losing their empire so they didn't have to share a border with Russia which is a weird thing to say about your own aggression. Then claims the same about Europe/Nato and modern Ukraine.
Although to some due credit, no other "world leader" has ever sat down and tried to explain any history at all even if inaccurate, so C- for just being the first modern person to attempt to do it.

The most likely reason for the invasion as discussed around 2:30 was said by NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg who said Putin sent a treaty to NATO that said that Russia will stay out of Ukraine if NATO does not expand further east. Stoltenberg said that obviously didn’t happen and then Putin entered Ukraine.

Oh, Mr. Terry, you're really showing ignorance of medieval combat when you say all of those are terrible weapons. Those are how you beat plate armor. Plus, there's at least one polearm there, depending on if you classify a maul as a polearm or not, and polearms beat swords. Blunt weapons were generally some of the most effective on the battlefield at the time.
Also, technically combat scythes were a thing but they were more of an improvised peasant weapon. Picture a scythe, but with the blade mounted coming straight out of the end of the handle rather than at a right angle.

Didn't and won't watch the Putin interview. He tries to pervert history to ok his actions in the modern day. Him and his lackies have even started trying to quote history as a reason they need to take back Alaska. He's nothing but an egotistical megalomaniac who's convinced himself he can't fail or be wrong.
He doesn't care about Russian agreements if they don't suit his ambitions. It doesn't matter who made them or how long ago, he just cares about expansion and power. Really funny how right after they found Europe's second biggest natural gas field in the donbas (2014, Shell gas) then Ukraine was suddenly Russia and they took Crimea then started to send out of uniform military to cultivate rebellion. Really REALLY funny when you consider his ownership in Russian gas that he'd suddenly want to invade.

I try to give more nunace, i haven't watched the full interview, but i got alot of the points Putin was trying to make, atleast from post cold war ideals and breakdown. I clearly do have disagreements with Putin and the Russian Regime but as Mr. Terry tried to rationalize Putin as a Russian nationalist or about telling Russian Minority perspectives well Tucker can go to these minority areas many of them have their own governments. I dont think putin is a nationalist or nationalist in how we in the western world see it, the largest nationalist party in Russia is the LPD(liberal democratic party) Putin is more or less associted with United Russia which is a centre-right big tent party.
