    Great videos mate, just a quick question, where you talk about how to create your own repository, is that also in the RHEL 8 exams? I am new to Linux, and that looks quite confusing to me, just want to make sure that I need to know it. Thanks!

      No worries mate, glad to help. Yep unfortunately that is included in the prerequisite for the exam.

    Hello Mr.England,
    Hope everything is good with you. I thank you for doing this series of videos. I just have a simple question. How can I know if a package is installed or not? Can I do "dnf info 'package_name'" and check the resource column in it? Or is there any other way to find this out.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Vamsidhar Galenki

      Hi there. There are quite a few ways to achieve this. One is via: rpm -qa | grep the another is via dnf list installed; finally you can do as you have done. Hope this helps!

    Thanks for your videos. I would like to ask if after creating repo, I would just then install it using the command "dnf install "?

    Hi CSG I wanted to ask if you enable the new kernal to be the first to boot up(by setting enable=0) what happens if during booting up time there's 2 kernals set to 0, which one will it choose.

    • @compsecgadgets
      @compsecgadgets  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea would imagine it would refuse to generate the file or fail to boot.

    Hi there CSG, I noticed you installed dnf-utils but used yum-config-manager that comes with yum-utils, is there any reason we would use yum-config-manager instead of dnf ?

      @@compsecgadgets I hope I'm prepared enough that I also go on auto-pilot with a command for a while.
      I'm trynna find/stick to a methodology because there seems to be a pattern of installing,configuring(checking) and/or mounting (and reloading/restarting and checking again) in the more difficult objectives, so I wanted to ask if you had a methodology and if so how did you develop it.

    Thank you for the great video.
    How did you make the local copy of "nano" at 7:50?
    And where are the packages stored to copy from?

    • @compsecgadgets
      @compsecgadgets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ivan, you'll need to visit access.redhat.com/downloads/content/package-browser to search for and download the nano package. You'll need the x86_64 package don't forget. Easiest way to download is to visit the same page on your redhat vm.

      @@compsecgadgets Thank you. I just needed it for test purposes making local repo so downloaded the first that I found. I was more interested where the downloaded packages are kept on the server when patching.

    i have another question if i create mount point at /etc/fstab lets say /dev/sr0 /repo iso9660 defaults 0 0 at my virtual machine after reboot it goes to installation of the server so i have to manually go to the virtual machine settings and unmark the optical disk option from the boot order will i have the same problem at the exam?

    • @compsecgadgets
      @compsecgadgets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Igor, nope you won't have that sort of problem as the VMs won't have virtual CD-ROM drives or at least they aren't containing anythingbootable. Hope that helps.

    Is there any task in the exam related to subscribing server to RedHat and downloading repos from there?

    • @compsecgadgets

      Yeah it's included in the exam syllabus. Hope that helps

    Are the changes done to the .repo file consistent once you save them. (If it's not included in /etc/fstab).

    • @compsecgadgets
      @compsecgadgets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      .repo changes would be persistent but if it's connecting to a mount point then it needs to be in fstab. Hope that helps

    for the exam should i use baseos and appstream or only this http or ftp ?

    • @compsecgadgets
      @compsecgadgets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Base OS will be for general OS updates and packages. Appstream is like a bunching of packages for particular streams of applications for example if you are doing development on the server you may want to install the development tools appstream. HTTP or FTP is valid for either.
      Hope this helps!

    ( yum config-manager --add-repo ) Doesn't work on the exam and I failed cause of that shit. I wasn't able to add 2 different repositories. Really upset with this training.

    • @compsecgadgets

      You need to check within /etc/yum.config.d/.repo for the config and make sure its enabled

    I failed the RHCSA. They asked me to login to a website to get access to the repositories that I’ll need. They gave me a username and password to login to the site. They wanted me to “add remote repositories and set as the default” I had no idea how to do this. Do you know how?

    • @compsecgadgets
      @compsecgadgets  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is an example repo file:
      [repo-name] # This stanza’s name. This must be unique.
      name=Local Network Yum Repo # The repo’s name, as displayed by “yum repolist”
      baseurl=ftp://192.168.75.132/pub/ # The directory that contains the repo’s repodata file
      enabled=1 # Optional: tells yum whether to use this repo, 1=yes, 0=no
      gpgcheck=0 # whether GPG check is enabled. 1=yes, 0=no
      gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg-RPM-GPG-KEY-redhat-release # Required only if gpgcheck=1

      @VinceAlmighty To my knowledge, you do not need the RHCE to get a job. I might still go for it later though, but after I get the RHCSA I will be looking for relevant work.

      @VinceAlmighty Oh, and one more thing. Although this TH-cam training is good, there are gaps in it and it won't be enough for you to pass the exam.
      I recommend also buy this book: RHCSA Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (UPDATED): Training and Exam Preparation Guide (EX200), Second Edition - by Asghar Ghori
      It has helped me fill in gaps in information that this TH-cam course did not give me.

      @VinceAlmighty Bet let me know your LinkedIn we can start there. But yeah good luck, I’m gonna need it too.
      I’m taking it again on 6/29/2021. If I don’t feel ready after tomorrow, I’m gonna push it back and give myself one more week to study. I feel ready, just need to brush up on a few things.
