    I'm going through all your old videos from Day 1 and they are really helping me. I'm 70 years old. I do know how to clean house but the idea of cleaning like I did when I was younger is exhausting. You are giving me a plan that I'm sure I can follow. I appreciate that you aren't hawking things that I simply must buy. I love that you can communicate a lot in just a few minutes. So I wanted to take a moment to thank you.

    I'm realising my mum was a first class homemaker, our house was always clean and tidy. The rule for anything, we did a lot of crafts etc was, do anything you want but put it away afterwards. I think she must have applied a Fly system. The crafts thing is what attracted me to your channel, you have so much time to do things and have fun. Since babystepping I've done several projects, now I come down in the morning and think "What can I do in this lovely kitchen", not "Oh no what a mess, that's my day gone clearing it up and finding things!"

    Just what I need. I read about Fly Lady several years ago and the two things I remembered was: work as fast as you can to get the job done and wear shoes or sneakers so you brain knows you mean business. I don't look like you yet in the morning, but I do have a shiny sink I never really had in a long time. I like the way you explain the system with your practical examples. It makes the system come alive for me to make it make sense to use.

    Thanks Diane
    I’m doing quite well, I’ve decluttered the cupboard under my kitchen sink! I can’t tell you how happy it makes me when I open it😂
    I’ve also tackled one of my many junk draws! Only another 7 to go!
    I keep forgetting about the time for me, so will work on that!

    I woke up feeling quite blah myself and must say I was so grateful to have my clothes sitting out and ready for me to slip into. My husband has now started to notice the changes around the house and my daughter commented on how much gentler I have seemed in the last few morning while brushing her hair. Haha- it's because I no longer have to figure out where my time is going which makes me feel so much less rushed.

    Diane, what you said today touched me. My family is going through a tough time recently. My husband and I were talking the other night about the sense of calm my consistent housekeeping has established. Because of the Fly lady system, our home is truly a place of peace! Thank you for your supportive videos.

    I really appreciate how much effort you put into your videos but make it look so conversational and effortless. You always have everything you need in front of you, you obviously have a plan for everything you’re going to talk about... it’s so nice! It’s simple yet shows how much you really care about it.

    This time of life is certainly hard with the stay at home order. I do appreciate the routines. I do get them done every morning before I start crisis schooling my special needs 8 and 6 yo. My husband is certainly noticing a difference as well. He is essential so he works longs hours. My worst room is my basement. It’s a very wet basement and my cats have started using the whole basement as a litter box. It’s also our catch all spot. Right now it’s just get down there and get dirty for as long as I can after hubby get home. I don’t get much time other wise. I got an hour and half last night and got so much of my pantry space organized. These routines have given me a bit more peace about the other areas of my house. I know it’s not according to Fly Lady, but I need to have the pantry organized to feed my family. Thank you for your videos. I hope the last years have been great on you.

    Thank you for this timely post. I lost my mom a few weeks ago and the days are ups and lately again more down. While the grieving process is different for all, mine seems to be struggling with doing the simplest of simple routines. While I was never a master at routines and organization, I was barely treading the waters. I woke up today and could just step into laid out clothing, swish and swipe on autopilot and breath a sigh at my clean sink. To sit down and get another pep talk and one that says it's ok to be a bit down was comforting and really helpful. I can't tell you how much I am appreciating your efforts and your outreach. Thank you!

    We have that same grey weather in the winter. It can really get you down. I noticed that as you encouraged us, you got a bit happier too. We will feel better by helping others to feel better. Thanks for doing these videos. I think you're right about the routines helping us to get through the day, and I now realize that I'll feel much better at the end of the day knowing that I accomplished something. I downloaded the flylady app a couple of days ago and she also has a really encouraging message each morning. I just discovered that under "routines", she has a checklist for these little routines. I love that when you check off an item, it completely disappears from the list! It's very satisfying, like a gold star. There's also a timer in there!

  • @jessicafjohnston23
    @jessicafjohnston23 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have been watching everyday, I got my timer on now. Only 4 min of phone time then I'm back to finishing 2 things off my morning list. I have trouble doing my evening routine because I have a 4 and 2 year old and at night I'm just exhausted. Thank you for being a blessing!

    In the last week, I've been doing a combination of Flylady, which focuses on general decluttering and cleaning, and Konmari, which focuses on exactly how to declutter. I decluttered my underwear yesterday and found a huge pile of stuff that I haven't been able to wear for 8 years! Yes, that's right, 8 years. And yet I've been keeping them in with the things I can wear. I have slowly been realizing that I have an awful lot of things like that; my closet is even worse! The years have gone by so fast that I didn't notice that many things I thought of as "new" are really decades old [blush].
    What made me start cleaning up with conviction is my birthday coming up. I know that most of you ladies are a lot younger than I am, so you probably can't relate yet, but I now have maybe 20 years of independent living left in this world. I used to acquire things with the thought that I would be using said items for most of my life, but most of it has been sitting unused for 20 or 30 years! If I haven't used it by now, then I probably don't like it enough, nor will there ever be an occasion, for me to use it in the next 20.
    My children don't want that antique crystal or those old sets of china, and they certainly don't want those clothes I've hanging onto for 25 to 30 years, since I was a slender young(er) thing! My basement is filled with acres of those old clothes and I even have a big set of encyclopedias from the 1970s. Hm, do you think it's time to rent a dumpster? I'm afraid that if I try to get rid of stuff a little at a time, especially stuff that I know I don't want (70% of what I have), then I'll get bogged down and quit. Having a garage sale might have been an option if the stuff was newer, but who wants a 30 year old velour top or a musty 40 year old set of encyclopedias? However, I'm keeping the antique crystal until they have to pry it from my cold dead hands, LOL.

The shift in my routines changing coincided with when I started working from home. I love that you have a little nerdy side to you....that's compliment....(I love Iron Man too!). The thing I live the most us...you take the pressure off...no special stuff needed and no need to do a major overthaul all at once. This morning my hot spot took me less than a minute to clear a d it's been sitting there for months! Honestly why did I not tackle it sooner? Thank you and keep doing your great work in motivating others

    I have reprinted out the 11 commandments with your annotations of this video. This makes it vivid to me. I have noted the numbers of the emergency plumber and of the caretaker of our settlement. I have shined our sink and layed out my clothes for tomorrow. When I will have finished this note, I will start my new complete evening routine that includes packing my lunch for my job, my fruits, my beverage, eat dinner, complete hygiene so that I may do a cat lick in the morning, plus optionally hair washing

    Thank you Diane, my problem is not doing one thing at a time. I noticed this yesterday as I was clearing the counter tops, as I took something into another room ,I would then see something in that room that needed moving to another room and so on and so on. I was so pleased that I noticed that I was doing that. I could see how I was becoming overwhelmed because I was looking at lots of rooms in a short space of time and things that needed doing was going through my mind. Thanks x

    Hi Diane! I have been watching many of these b/c I started the fly lady system and have established my morning routine! I have to stop here and comment that I like the way you approach the method. Even though baby steps were encouraged I didn't get the concept! I thank you for this video series. People like me who are brain jumpers need the timer for extra added encouragement and focus. Today really hit home when you said to start one thing and finish it! I have a lot of unfinished projects that need my attention! I especially like setting the timer and tackling one thing! After I get my home completely in order I am going to set my mind to attack the UFO' s. ( Unfinished Projects) Thank you so much for your guidance. TFS ❤️

Particularly setting a timer, I think I passed on some jobs because I knew it was an hour or two hour chore. Now I set the timer and do what I can. Doing a little makes me feel better then doing zero. I have even implemented the timer when I am doing work after school in my classroom to keep me from getting too sidetracked. :-)

    Diane! I struggle with the lace up shoes in the house. I am constantly going to the garage to throw things out (dirty garage floor) and out into the backyard to garden or check on my chickens (chicken poop, dirt, etc.). Even though I slip on and off my lace up shoes and put on my "garage shoes" and my "backyard chicken sh!t shoes"...it's such a complete and utter nuisance!!!!

    Hi, Diane- Today started great. I had my clothes lined up and ready to go. did my morning routine -well actually- it was sort of in the middle of doing my morning routine that things went a little haywire. I was reaching under the sink to grab the dish detergent when I noticed there was a leak. This necessitated a call to my landlady and then to the plumber. But I shouldered on!When the plumber showed up, they went right to fixing the leak. But, two more plumbing problems were discovered which will have to be rectified in future. Meanwhile the under the sink leaking problem was solved by a new faucet. no sooner had the plumbers left, when I turned the faucet on to get a drink of water and it wouldn't quite turn off. Another call to the plumber, and so on. C'est la vie!
    Ok, so it was a but bumpy today, but, onward! Someone far more determined than myself encouraged us to keep at it. 😎😎

    Going back and watching these baby steps for my Diane fix while you're taking a break. Love your videos! Question: what to do when you're ill? I was so tired last week then came down with the flu and still am recovering. Managing a 15" session each morning and trying not to stress out about getting behind!

    today day 18 of my 31 babysteps in March 2020. today, I ironed for 15 min, 2 min hotspot and swish and swipe in the bathroom, 15 window cleaning only the one in the bedroom and one of two in the entry hall. (my flat is not that big). I decluttered two items I cooked and made the dishes 3 times and now I have to do them again. again I didn't work on my control journal. I looked something up for my husband that took me too long (because I didn't set the timer for sure), then I didn't go back to the control journal. the swish and swipe I did rather by impulse. I noticed, I actually forgot, how tha works. in the zone cleaning or the weekly cleaning? I considered it one of my 3 times 15 min tasks of today. I guess, the weekly plan and zone etc. would fall into place anyway, if I would work on my contro ljournal . building the plan and later on inventory, weekly meal plan and so on. tomorrow again homeoffice. the plan is to work 3 hours, pause then 2 hours, pause and 3 hours again. I can't do more on a small laptop. we'll see, what I will complete, after the work and the dinner. I guess, it is best, only do laundry and then work on the control journal 2 x 15 min. so, I wrote it here. tomorrow I will come back, to see, what I planed for tomorrow :-D

      NB: i noticed, that I have progress in all rooms, except the living room and the kitchen (except sink and counter top around the sink). and I am more in the living room, than in the other rooms. since my last travel trip, this is the most chaotic room. decluttering or constant 15 min missions here, would help with the visible problem areas. interesting how much I resist to work more on the most visible chaos.... on day the living room will fall as well ;-)

    • @nursen2106

      right after I posted this comment I did the dishes. somehow motivated to tackle a tastk in the areas I left out the last weeks, I finally cleaned the rest of the countertops. yes, I had to store some items somewhere on the floor, because I have no space in my kind of pantry, but I didn't want to wait, till I get that decluttered and organized. it took me about 25 min in total. that includes about 10 min, to look up a DIY decreaser with baking soda, orange oil and dish soap. I new about it, but didn't needed it before. now, I have added it to my 1 1/2 page of DIY cleansers. later I will print that out and put it in my control journal - now it starts to get fun. but now to bed. it is late. and we do need sleep :-D thanks so much for the encouragement with your videos!

    Thanks again for your videos! They r really motivating. I lost my mum two months ago and have been finding things really hard. It is good to follow these routines they make me do something instead of just feeling sorry for myself. I have a question though. Is the daily mission part of the basic babystep routine or is it a bit we add on later?

    • @DianeinDenmark
      @DianeinDenmark  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you can fit one in, that's great but the main focus when you are starting is to keep going with your small routines, morning and night - those are the things which will keep you going and set you up for success. Good luck!

    Re: commandment 9 -- "What does "as fast as possible" mean? When I feel rushed, I feel stressed out and then angry. I'd rather enjoy what I have to do than just get it over with. Is that unrealistic?
