- Hello everyone! I recently ordered some fish online and bought a fish from Petco to compare the quality of the two. The fish I bought from Petco was 5 dollars while the koi angelfish I bought were around 120 dollars with shipping. I had ordered the fish from Angelsplus.com and I am very pleased with my koi angels! MasterAquatics imo, it's nicer. I am more of a "purist", I don't like cor mutations, so the $5 Rio Manucapuru is a very nice fish. In the Netherlands, I'dd pay about 12 bucks for one of those (Although they come from a breeder that's known internationally, he was the first person to export captive bred red shoulder angels to the US)

Some are considered better, and they’ll fetch much higher prices when they produce brood. Also, they’re adults, so they’re more expensive. For sales price? Go for a higher end one.

Finally somebody that is down to earth. I like that you admit to learning from other people. I watch a lot of videos just to learn different techniques and ways of doing things. Good job, keep it up. Side note I bought from Angels Plus too, and was very happy with the whole experience.

Quick tip for introducing shipped fish to your tank:
Turn out the lamp for 12-24 hours, and feed your tank before introducing new fish.
This calms out stressed fish that have been in the dark for 24 hours, and reduces aggression by existing tankmates. (Feeding accomplishes this too.)
A good water change before your fish arrive is a good idea too.
Nice angels, only thing id recommend is practice quarantine with new fish no matter where you bought them from. I know from experience. Don't learn the hard way, it's not worth it.

Whoops, sorry I haven't looked at this string for a while. You can ask the manager or the fish guy there to special order and they do it for free! The kois are a hit or miss situation. Sometimes they are normal kois sometimes they are red. I haven't ordered them but ask them for any fish you want and they'll get it for you!

@@icedmocha5264 not dull, just more natural looking. Those Koi, like the ones I have tend to have shorter lives and are more prone to diseases and parasites.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. A person's value system determines the degree of quality and worth. I have a beautiful a blue zebra angel purchased from Petco and the blue in it is stunning. I also purchased a koi from That Fish Place and the color is distinctive healthy and all fins present. Your Petco angel is beautiful and a fantastic deal for $5. Personally, and Im sure others will agree you over paid, but hay Its your value system and what you thnk its worth

I've seen 2.5-3" Koi Angels at Petco for $12-$14 and they looked amazing. They are not common, but certainly available when you go to the major LFS in your town.

I went to the site he was talking about in the video half fish were sold out no indication of when or if they are going to be put back on sale list also if I bought $70 worth of fish I would have to pay $80 in shipping is this really worth it there is also a minimum purchase so you can't buy just one fish
You should get some Javs Moss or Christmas Moss for the drift wood. you can use the crazy glue to apply bits of it where you like one the wood.

I saw some koi angelfish at my local petsmart in oak ridge TN
I have to say that more wild looking angel with the standard colors and bars looks far superior to me to the koi angels, Now I like mottled goldfish shubunkins and koi, I have them both in my pond, but when it comes to angels I don't like silver ones or the ones with splotches like this, I like the more standard appearance, as well as zebra, I guess when it comes to angels I like the black bars.
sorry, but the only thing I learned off this was don't buy angels (bigger one's for sure) from Angelsplus , pretty price for not High Coverage Koi's but that's not my beef, the issue is their shipping method, I can't imagine why on earth would they not use separate bags for those angels. As we could all see and you noted one of the fish was badly hurt during shipping and no that's because of shipping that's because of the way they were shipped and your lucky it didn't die on you. For that kind of money they ship like that????
Rod Hurst ill be honest. Im not a big fan of the way they ship either and their shipping prices are wayyyyyyy tooooo high! But the beauty and quality of their angels outweigh that for me. Personally their kois have good orange coverage for me. But everyone has different opinions and i can only speak for myself.
I agree, they have GREAT quality angels but it's no wonder why they make you pay express overnight for live fish guarantee because they wouldn't survive much longer they way they ship, that's just nasty shipping practices from someone who knows better but still chooses to ship that way.
Master aquatic, I am looking into getting my first angelfish or 3 and wanting some advice. I have a 53g freshwater heavily planted tank and was wondering how many angelfish would you suggest keeping. Currently I have a pair of bolivian rams, 20+ cardinal tetra, honey gouramis and corys. The blue zebra angelfish are the ones I'm looking into. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Wow,I,uhm. I think you may have got rigged,my friend. 120$ for an angelfish is immense,and they aren''t even good quailty. And that 5$ looks amazing for it's price!It looks so natural and so happy. But using a fish for testing water is kind of cruel,using a kit is probably more expensive but way more HUMANE. Anyways they are all beautiful and also the tank is beautiful,care for them well.
Some angels go for over 300$ each( I’m talking Philippine blues, Altum angels, Show Winners), and 60$ per angelfish(he bought the pair for 120, not each angel) isn’t that bad. I have some showgrade koi angelfish at my LFS going for 100$ each.
When using melafix and pemafix you have to greatly increase the aeration of the tank as these products form a oily film on the surface of the water that can inhibit oxygen exchange...the indigenous people of my country have used Melaleuca for thousands of years mostly for treating wounds and sore throats, chills and colds....Melaleuca being main ingredient of melafix.. so...I think they work well for external injuries not much else though...

tbh the one from petco is in great condition. its just a different type of angel (an altum if im not mistaken) that isn't too colorful so comparing it to a koi, let a alone a 120$ pure bred koi, is loaded.
Nope. Altums have a sharper head shape and their fins curl at the ends.

I've been trying to get orange koi from my distributor, but they can't seem to get them lately. We can get the yellow, white, and black ones, but not the orange. So lame.

i have 3 from petco and ordered 3 more from angelmania.net I had 4 from petco but returned 1 because it had some serious finrot had it in quarantine tank but it wasnt getting better so i returned it
I got a koi angelfish from petsmart for $13 and he is fairly pretty, not as much orange as your fish but still very nice looking. How would i know if he/she is a high quality fish?
Vanessa Lynn, it depends on the color, shape, all sorts of things. Check for longer, flowing fins that drag and ripple more. Check for more orange and a few black splotches across the back, less white. Large, circular body shape with an easily defined tail shape that makes it look triangular. That is a good fish. Oh! And healthy. Can’t forget that.
Not going to lie I've seen the koi angels and all the ones like that but I would rather have the normal looking ones with stripes. Not to say there aren't more expensive ones I would like to have Pinoy Blue would be amazing or zebra but the ones they call koi just don't interest me that much...probably because I have koi and there patterns are amazing looking whereas all the "koi" angels I've ever seen are just some random mottling and not great to me at all. I guess if I was going to get truly expensive angels it would be Altums A 2 or 300 gallon aquarium with a large grouping of Altum angels that would be amazing. LOL I was about to post this but then I noticed I watched this video 2 years ago and made a similar comment. At least now I know my tastes havn't changed

The tank size effecting fish size is a known myth.
It depends. If the tank is smaller than the fish(I’m talking arowana or feeder goldfish, both of which get 5’+) then you have a problem. So, yes, yes it does. Also, most fish like cichlids and larger fish are easily affected by tank size, especially younger fish.

For shipped fish, better not to acclimate. Ammonia is a problem for overnight shipping and other types. So, we just yank them in and work from there.
