For years I taught a course that surveyed Christian theology for students becoming clergy. For the last day of class I always made the students watch "Life of Brian." The worst sin is taking ourselves too seriously. You will never convince me that "Life of Brian" is not the best Bible movie of all time. Thank you Eric Idle and Monty Python.

The first time I went to Scotland, I was amazed at how everyone would just "sing out loud" if a song started playing somewhere. (Plus they all seemed to know the words to everything!) But as an American music teacher, it moved me greatly to be able to participate in spontaneous song. If you try that in the US, you get a lot of "oh i don't know how to sing" or "I didn't study music" BS and people close up.
    Not in Scotland. 😆
Making music happen (solo or in a group) really does 'flush the emotions' that need to get moved out/exorcised. Quite therapeutic, and an instant way to connect to others--even total strangers.

I wish Jordan had asked a few questions about his musical compositions and lyrics. He has a style that comes across as simple and funny, but it's really quite sophisticated. He's done a lot of music work outside Python (notably the theme for One Foot in the Grave). It's a very distinctive style. I compose for theater, and I wish I had his knack for reaching people the way he does. I just do my best and hope they like it. He really gets people.

I remember watching Monty Python as a teenager. I never mentioned it to my children but in their late high school and college years they discovered Monty Python and they loved it. I wonder what my grandchildren will think.

As to creative disagreements, our Canadian comedy legends Wayne and Shuster became infamous for their terrible arguments about each and every sketch they did. Johnnie Wayne was the more perfectionist of the two, and Frank Shuster would grudgingly agree with him in the end. Years after Johnnie died, Frank hosted a special with selected sections of their most famous sketches. He told viewers that he found himself arguing in his mind with Johnnie over every choice -- but this time he won nearly half the time.

When I first came from USA to live in New Zealand, I had previously had little exposure to English accents (I thought I spoke English but soon realised I spoke American! 😉). My New Zealander husband took me to a screening of Life of Brian in a hall with poor acoustics. So throughout the entire movie, I was constantly tugging at my husband’s arm, whispering, “What did he say?!??”
In addition, I discovered that English humour was very different from American humour- English humour is generally a lot more subtle. So initially I just didn’t get the humour. But eventually I learned to love the more subtle and more witty approach of British humour, rather than the “in-your-face” and often slapstick humour of American comedians. Having said that, I adore Jordan Klepper’s quick-witted intelligence and charisma, especially when he highlights the ignorance and blind loyalty of MAGA rally-goers in such clever ways, turning irrational logic on itself without being nasty or aggressive, sometimes making the point without the person being interviewed even realising it! He’s a national treasure!! 🥳🌞💐

I rarely watch a movie or TV series more than once, unless I'm high and forgot I'd already watched it. But Monty Python is the exception. About once a year, I'll pace myself through their movies, with nearly the same level of excitement as I did the first go-through.
