Well in my humble opinion the story I told is one of the BEST STORIES EVER. Or completely boring. I can’t tell anymore . Hope everyone is enjoying todays video! Always fun to be with Woo!
My dad was stationed in the California and Nevada deserts when he was in the Air Force in the 1950's and has always told me tales of it and now I get to explore it with you.
Wow, this one was awesome; lot's of film/ad history in this one - loved the Blazing Saddles info and the Harvey Korman impersonation :-) . "Somebody's gotta go back and get a $hitload of dimes" kills me every time... Thanks Adam!
Some tid bits about Golden Oak Ranch: The Disney family has a private cabin there (still standing and furnished) that they would use as a local escape. There is a residential neighborhood street set, too. They grow crops on the ranch that are used in the commissary at the main studio lot. The large dance hall from The Country Bears movie is still there. They were supposed to tear it down after filming, but it was too beautiful to destroy.
Surely Tom would be able to get you into the town square set, would be brilliant for you and Tom to do a vlog on the set, and Tom telling some stories about filming back to the future, would make a brilliant video. Keep up the good work
Nothing like taking my two daughters to Vasquez Rocks to let them explore. The entire area is fantastic! PS - geology of the area is a good reminder that San Andreas Fault is just 15 miles further up the road. PS2 - don’t forget to protect your ears from the sun! PS3 - when you come back to SoCal, you should consider going to the Mojave Desert, Edwards, CA and checkout the WasteLand Weekend.
Hahaaa...you'll probably cut it out ....(goes to next scence)🤣 Scott on Tap" Definitely was snoozing dreaming of gold onions.. That Backlot Is very cool
Daamn that's good! From Vasquez Rocks, the actual start of the Gold Rush, a piece of Disney magic, a bit of BTTF, to Devils' Rejects and Season of the Witch? Are ya kidding me with all this awesome? ---"That's a dumb question, Miss Grimbridge!" LOL
My late husband was a Wrangler/stuntman for motion picture . He worked on a Michael Jackson video there at Vasquez rocks . We worked on the first Army of Darkness . I got to be a male soldier riding in a group taking Prisoners to the Castle . I was glad when one of the gals there said , I knew you were a woman !😂They positioned the waist on my hips 😮 I don’t know if the Army of darkness your talking about is different . Army of darkness was not filmed at Vasquez rocks 🪨 I don’t remember where we were . Maybe Disney Ranch . Been since the nineties!!
I love the Last Starfighter. It was one of my favorites as a kid. During the pandemic I watched it again with my kids. They liked it. Probably not as much as I did when I was their age, but they thought that it was good.
Hey Adam. Glad to see you’re back in SoCal. I noticed you’ve been doing a local hidden history of Disney related locations around SoCal while you’re back in town but I’ve never seen you do an episode of where Port Disney would have been back when Disney owned the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose in Long Beach. Another place you might want to check out is Walt Disney’s Desert Homes at Smoke Tree Ranch in Palm Springs especially since Disney recently announced that they want to build a Palm Springs version of Celebration / Golden Oak Disney themed housing tract community in Rancho Mirage called Cotino. They just broke ground there about 3 weeks ago. They expect the first model homes to be ready by early 2023 and ready to move in by 2024.
I grew up in the area you were at in this video. That's for paying my home area a little love. Just an FYI, when you were at Oak of the Golden Dream, you were a few hundred yards from the epicenter of the February 9, 1971 Sylmar earthquake. Up until just a few years ago you could see where the fault line broke the surface.
Totally remember the Star Trek filming location video. One of the best ever! This has been so much fun to watch. Love the energy! Love the vibes. Must've been hell to edit. Y'all take care and, as always, looking forward to the next vid. Take care (Ooops, I said that already).
Love, love, love. Thanks for taking me places I will probably never be able to go and never knew about. Scott on Tape helps make the video great with his craziness. You and him should go on the road together more often. Ya'll are good together. I always laugh until I cry when ya'll are together. Enjoyed this one very much. Be safe and Happy Trails.
Interesting vlog Adam , love the filming location videos.scott on tape is so funny have enjoyed you working together.Awesome channel have a great weekend 😎👍
Oh my The Oooooold Wwwwest! I miss it!!!!!!! I, from Maryland born 1966, moved with my family to Phoenix AZ in 1971. We Left back to Maryland in late 1987. Oh the van camping trips and back road adventures we did! I love watching you go to places that I remember as young as 5 and 6 years old! Near Phoenix was/is? Rawhide a western town attraction, The old and defunct Legend City! Oh my! Disney flash of memory! Crying like a wimp going into Disneyland for the first time in 1972 seeing the Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion Posters in the tunnel going in!
Enjoyed this. I did get to spend part of a day at the rocks on one of my visits. climbed all over them and ever since then I noticed them in so many movies and TV shows. It is an unforgettable landmark. Like you said, if I go back again, I probably will not be climbing around like I did last time. It was also nice to the the Disney related backlot, never knew about that on, but I do remember The Apple Dumpling Gang, always wondered exactly where the backlot was located. Thanks
Love your adventures ATW. Tonight I'll be in Baltimore watching your beloved Ray's at Camden Yard. I'll try and bring em some luck. Keep up all the hard work.
Nancy Smith My late Uncle was in an episode of Little House . They were supposed to be miners. They used my Uncles hands in one of the shots of them drilling holes in the rocks. That episode was filmed somewhere in the hills around the town of Corona, CA.
Anytime I've seen the Vasquez area I always wondered where it was I again I had no idea it was in California. When you were playing that game I was hoping somebody would have said the first Elvis Presley movie Love me tender I think has those rocks. This would have been a good day to have a drone! Thank you for sharing. I wish I could ask Scott on tape if he's ever been to Bodie talk about a road trip up 395 if you've never been there that's something to see!
Great vid. ZI wish you were able to walk around the Disney set. The BTTF roads were cool. According to that sign, gold was discovered on my wife’s birthday. She was a little girl at the time….lol.
It would awesome to make a vid in there. I would love to see the Peabody Farm, and his lone pine tree. I am not a fan of the slasher type movies, but when you mentioned Blazing Saddles, my ears perked up.
Ooooh man ! Thank you guys !! Ive just had the laugh of my life with the snooze fest, thats what I would do and making him sound so lazy. "Discovered gold whilst napping "
This was a fun video. I so enjoy Scott talking like Jerry Seinfeld. Congratulations to the other guest, sorry forgot your channel name 🌺🧡 Thanks for sharing guys
I've never been out to Vasquez rocks yet but I have been worked at the Golden Oak Ranch a few times. I built an entire house for a Chevy commercial and at the end of the days I'd explore the areas and walk around some of the facades while I was in there. Didn't know about the gold discovery at the tree. It would be fun to do a video adventure with ya one of these days if we ever cross paths. Fun vid I like the filming locations out in the desert areas.
yup, That's Wandavision's Westview....holy cow! Right out in nowhere. I hear the residential area of GOR was used for the suburban scenes, too..makes sense. BTW, a picture of location of the Back to the Future barn is on Google Maps, but not much else of the inside of that backlot (go figure...Disney).
HEY ATW... LATE AGAIN! SORRY! THIS VLOG BROUGHT BACK memories of your Gorn/Kirk vlog! That episode was so great because I'm such an original STAR TREK SERIES fan! It was the Star Trek heavy metal music that made it! Thanks. You guys are hilarious!
Did y'all do peyote in the desert like the Lizard King and his bandmates (and their chicks) did in "The Doors"? I love it when you have guest stars on ATW - and you had 2 of the best with you on this one! Thanks for letting us live vicariously through your camera lens. (Scott's Hannah-Barbera voice was a pretty good Yogi. Hey there BooBoo!)
Just to give an update on the Back To the Future location, a lot of the people think it was filmed at a Barn in Great Oakes that is still standing up today, but it has finally been confirmed after years The Peabody's house/Barn was torn down in the early 90s.
I was on the Golden Oak Ranch a few times YEARS ago. The back lot you are focusing on is fairly new when talking about the history of the Golden Oak Ranch. There is also an oak tree that claims to be the location of the found gold you mentioned earlier in. the video.
Bonanza was filmed up by Vasquez Rocks too. I remember one episode where Hoss was convinced he could fly with these wings that had bird feathers on it. If I remember it was Vazquez Rocks he had to jump off of.
I remember being so excited to go see Halloween 3 when it came out. Went on opening night and I, along with the other folks in the theater were so confused and peeved at what we saw. First and only time I’ve heard people literally booing at a movie theater.
I climbed Vasquez Rocks many times when I was a teen, and in those days (late 60's) there was a movie set built there at the foot of the rocks --- a fortress or castle, where many Lost in Space and Wild, Wild, West TV episodes were filmed. It was torn down sometime in the 1980's, I heard.
Adam I'm watching some of your old blogs. THANK YOU MUCH for the Disney locations in Florida. I could never go there. The blogs are wonderful like I am there.Thank you much! The lady Natalie looks and talks like Daphne are they the same? THANK YOU again you are THE BEST!!!!
My dad actually worked at that gas station in the late 50s-early 60s and my mom would visit him there while they were still dating. Also, my mom was born one day after Sid Haig in 1939.
There is a TH-cam video called "Golden oak ranch Disney studio fly over" that shows the barn. It appears to be the same barn from an episode of Murder She Wrote I worked on in the 80's and we later scouted for a Roger Corman film in the mid 90's.
Hi Adam, You may e interested to know that the gas station you visited near the end was also used in HItchcock"s "Family Plot". The false front 2nd floor remained on the station for several years afterwards.

Adam The formation of the rocks is amazing. Thank You for the journey. Your friends are wacky.
Scenes from the original Lost in Space TV series was filmed at Vazques Rocks.

@@gerrydooley951 I was thinking Star Trek! Heheh

That what I was thinking
Since I grew up in Palmdale, we used to go to Vasquez Rocks quite often. Always in search for that lost gold. Enjoy your visit

I saw that street on the burbank lot.it triped me out.its a whole naborhood of houses. I thought they where fronts till I looked closer at them.

Have you considered covering filming locations for the 1971 movie 'Duel'? They're all out between Santa Clarita and Palmdale.
Love that movie for some reason lol
Also the video for sammy hagar's video. I cant drive 55. Right there in Santa Santa Clarita area.
