Yes in the time paradox episode (unofficially the last episode of doraemon), doraemon's battery was run out, due to which doraemon stopped responding, and was "dead". Also, his gadgets was unusable, except for the time TV, which was still operational, but that too was to be seized by time patrols in a short time. Nobita could not even travel to future, because time patrol has imposed restriction on it. In the meantime, dorami said that his battery is in his ears, which was eaten away by rats (most probably the explanation of why doraemon was afraid of rats), and as a result, his battery could not be replaced, and if replaced, his memories would be factory reset (i.e he would forget everything), and most probably they lost contact with each other forever. And later, after hearing this, Nobita was depressed, because he cannot take the help of doraemon and also he lost his best friend. So Nobita started working hard and became determined he would invent that technology which would help him replace the battery of Doraemon without factory resetting doraemon's memory, and became the most intelligent student of his school surpassing dekisugi, whom he was jealous of due to the same reason. Later, time passed, he completed his high school, then higher education, and finally became a scientist. He also married Shizuka, which he wanted since childhood. In the last scene, he was shown switching on Doraemon again, and then hugging him. Doraemon is now having physical ears, and his body color is now yellow.
Thus, everybody's dream and doraemon's main objective of converting a stupid and idiot nobita to a most genius person has been accomplished.

The people who wanted to ban Doraemon can never understand the feelings of children...Nobita may be a lazy boy, and he also takes Doraemon's gadgets, but in every episode it has been shown that bad usage of gadgets can bring about our own ruin...at the same time, Nobita is also a very helpful boy, he always stands by others. The man who wanted to ban this wonderful show, is not a human being.
