The dancing! The beat! I felt like I was back dancing to Bell Biv DeVoe, lol! This song is hot, but NewJeans never misses. So much in kpop is just unoriginal and repetitive, e.g., boy groups just jumping around in parking garages, girl groups just doing girl crush concept and screaming out every line, over-produced heavy beats, etc., but I love NewJeans for always bringing something fresh, fun, creative, and just different.

Newjack swing, which was popular in the United States in the 1990s, brought the same craze to Japan and Korea at the time. It also adds a more refined, romantic soft vibe to the song, and Stevie Wonder's electronic keyboard sound from the song "Superstition".
Also the UK its from late 80s really as i remember bobby browns 'dance.. ya know it' was the very first album i bought with my own money as a kid... i think it was 1988 so i would have been 11... man i loved that album.. had it on non stop in my walkman... hence this song instantly one of my fave newjeans song.

Btw this is their Japanese debut in the sense that 1. part of the lyrics are in Japanese (don't think they have done that before), but mostly because of 2. they are promoting the single album in Japan first, not South Korea (performing it on TV shows etc.), so the song is literally debuted in Japan.

It’s technically Japanese release but not really. It’s sung in Korean, Japanese, and English. But NJ is killing it on the Japanese charts.
This is actually more of a Japanese style new jack swing where New jack swing was huge in the 90s Japan. Also how they showed each members with their names in the beginning of the M/V was totally a hommage to early/mid 90s Japanese videos
I can see that... the snares and high hats are less prominent giving it a smoother feel rather than slightly harder edge of the likes of bobby brown and bell biv devoe... but i dont know much about japanese gemres so i'm guessing thats what gives it a more japanese style.. am i right?

how sweet wasn't really to my taste but supernatural has been on constant repeat for me since.
Idk if you guys have heard of the hiphop duo DEUX but they were huge in the 90s in south korea. After supernatural came out, I was reminded of one of their songs "turn around and look back at me" because the choreo and vibes were kinds of reminiscent of that time. to my surprise, the comment section was filled with people who had the exact same thought lol. A lot of people felt super nostalgic watching supernatural, and to be reminded of legendary groups like DEUX is a massive compliment to new jeans too
