Holy cow! this has been in my top 5 velvets song since I first heard it on the live on the sf album. Since then I've spent hours and hours going through the depths of the VU vault trying to find a studio recording. Man this is so wonderful !
thanks indeed. this is fantastic - such a great song on the live album and fascinating to hear them rehearsing it in the second part of this recording. the drumming is quite interesting - much more conventional - and the guitar work just sublime. Makes me want to dust mine off again and actually learn how to play this time... not that I can ever hope to reach these heights
@@lunkyboi8670 I think Lou's vocals on this remind me of Mike's alot. I know he liked the Beach Boys. I was thinkin more surfin safari. Its not exact or anything but the vocal style and vocal melody choices.

I don't think this is a studio version - it was recorded at a 1969 rehearsal by Robert Quine

Great!! OMG!
Don't overlook Moe Tucker in this sea of fabulousness ..
Oh my god they're so good...
Musically this sounds a little Beach Boys inspired to me. Didnt really hear it so much on the live 1969 album, but this one brings them to mind.
The Live '69 album has a similar frenetic energy to 'Be True to Your School', I hear what you mean. Hard to unhear that version when its your first!

Pure Gold
I can't see how you could make a more complete song than this. From Magnus who has listened to Velvet in 50 years.
wonderful stuff. Thanks for sharing
am I nuts or is this new to release?
Never heard this version and I'm a pretty thorough fan.
Where do these recordings ?
