    The young woman who realized that she has to accept her insecurities and learn to live with them just taught this old grandmother something new. Thank you, dear. Namaste.

    I’m turning 54 years old in two days. I now realize what this 18 year old girl knows. My mom was an alcoholic. We were neglected in so many ways. I am now am feeling it’s okay to feel okay with my host of issues. By not bullying myself to be different I’m happier. Accepting my karma helps me love others . I think I’m kind of lucky to have had this life. I wonder if I was an alcoholic mom or dad in a past life. Lol. Probably.

      Hello c7eye: Belated Happy Birthday! Just wanted to share with you a few ways that I've caught myself staying with the feelings brought by being raised by an alcoholic mom (and, father, too!): I watch myself lovingly when I: 1) am in constant movement either physically or mentally or both; 2) when I try to "fix" a situation instead of just leaving it alone; 3) when I create the sense that there is an emergency when things are really just fine.

      @@cate1657 Thank you for sharing. I, too, was raised by an alcoholic mom. It's nice to know I am not alone.

      I think that the programming we receive in our early childhood can not actually be erased; but with the benefit of our meditation practice, we can stop, evaluate it objectively, choose not to let it enslave us, and make proper life choices.
      Of course, all of that is easier typed than done; so we have to be determined to be free of our past.
      I didn't have alcoholic parents, but I certainly had other issues.

    Covid lockdowns really showed how much I need others. How I cannot live without others. I’m one person. I can’t do it all. Garbage man, cashier, gas station, trucked in food. Doctor , police, cookie maker. The list is endless.

    Thank you for this presentation.
    Marshall Vian Summers talks about suffering as "the crown of thorns of your own ideas and assumptions, your own misgivings and misinformation and your own unforgiveness towards yourself and the world." Marshall says there is a remedy for this pain: "Therefore all pain must be recognized as the result of your own decision...your own interpretation. You may feel that you have been wronged by another or by the world... but you must look beyond [this feeling] to its source...To do this you must utilize your own faculties. This will give you great strength. You will be able to do this because Knowledge is with you...
    Without condemnation upon the world and upon yourself, the mind is at peace already." (MVS, Steps to Knowledge)

      I accessed the Steps to Knowledge and I’m utterly stumped on the first one.
      “Three times today, spend ten minutes thinking about what Knowledge is, not merely applying your own ideas, not merely applying your past understanding, but thinking about what Knowledge really is.” Ouch.

    There are are ways and interventions that can help heal old traumas, completely. Like NLP, Tapping/EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), TRE (Trauma Release Exercises), several chemical interventions with microdosing... etc... Trauma is NOT a life sentence.

    • @katec9893
      @katec9893 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you, I didn't like that part of the talk because it isn't true or helpful to tell people that trauma is destined to be there forever. There is a lot of new work surrounding healing trauma which is very positive and gives survivors hope. I will add EMDR and somatic healing therapy to your list as further examples.

    First off, why is she standing while rocking back and forth? It's rather distracting. It also seems as if she's distracted herself by forgetting what she wants to say.

      It must be hard to look at someone who is offering you their truth and focus on the fact that she's standing and moving gently. Pema suffers from impermanence . Her body is wearing out. Still she teaches. Isn't that wonderful?
